Cyrus Bakhtiyari a aimé ceciCyrus Bakhtiyari a aimé ceciMy child has a complex, chronic health condition. For a long time, managing it meant juggling notebooks, spreadsheets, and fragmented memory. Trying to answer a doctor's question like "when did that start?" or "has anything changed recently?" with any real confidence was harder than it should have been. Patterns that might have mattered were invisible because we were too deep in the day-to-day to see them. So I built something. HealthFlare is a mobile app for tracking symptoms, logging potential triggers, and identifying patterns over time. It's designed for families managing chronic and complex conditions, the kind that touch multiple systems and don't fit neatly into standard health apps. A few things I'm proud of: Privacy by design. There is no server. No account. No telemetry. Every piece of data lives only on your device, encrypted. I cannot see it. Nobody can. Open source. Every line of code is public. Trust shouldn't require taking someone's word for it. Free. No ads, no subscriptions, no monetisation path. This exists because it helped my family, and I hope it helps others. It's early days. v0.2.0 is Android only and distributed via GitHub rather than the Play Store. Rough edges exist. But the foundation is solid and I'd rather it be in the hands of people who need it than sitting on my hard drive waiting to be perfect. Owl Practice Suite Canada is the first company where I’ve ever been completely “out,” and that has made a profound difference in my life. Being able to show up as my authentic self every day is something I never take for granted. At a previous company, I once ran into a colleague while I was out with a woman I was dating—and I actually hid behind a pillar so they wouldn’t see us. That moment was a wake-up call. I knew I needed something different. I started at Owl the following month and made a point during my interview to ask about inclusion policies and how the company supports queer employees. I was genuinely moved by the thoughtfulness and care in their response. I’m incredibly grateful to our leadership team and every one of my colleagues for fostering an environment where I can truly be myself. I feel lucky every single day to work somewhere I can proudly say in a town hall: I’m excited for Pride Month!

The problem? Canada’s provincial barriers make it nearly impossible. Two examples (there are many): 1. Weight Limits: What’s legal in Alberta may be overweight in Ontario, forcing truckers to plan for the most restrictive province—leaving money and space on the table, or offloading to local firms driving expenses higher. 2. Oversized Permits: Each province has its own permit system, requiring separate applications, lead times, and route restrictions. There’s no unified national process. Result: Lost productivity, higher costs, and a fractured national supply chain. Canada needs internal free trade—not just between countries, but between provinces. No wonder it’s cheaper to ship from Vancouver to most of the US! With over 2,900 exporters in York Region -many reliant on U.S. markets- the tariffs are disrupting supply chains, increasing costs, and putting local jobs at risk. Our focus remains on providing direct support to businesses through advocacy, tailored programs, and partnerships that strengthen economic resilience. On another note, I’m thrilled to see Minister Lecce take on the mining portfolio. Ontario’s Ring of Fire holds immense potential, with vast natural resources that could drive significant economic growth and job creation. Under his leadership, we expect a more streamlined approach to unlocking this wealth, positioning #Ontario as a leader in critical minerals. 🎃 Newfoundland’s First Halloween Map on NewfieRadar.ca This year, I launched NewfieRadar’s Halloween Map, Newfoundland’s first interactive community map where people could share decorated homes, haunted houses, trunk-or-treat spots, and homes welcoming trick-or-treaters. It helped families explore their neighborhoods safely and easily by tracking seen and unseen streets, sorting by distance, and saving favourites to plan the perfect Halloween route. How it started This project started as a hobby I’ve been building in my free time. I first created a speed camera information hub and camera locations on an interactive map. Later, I added a Fire Map to track active fires, their size, and spread after the worst fire season we had in 2025, helping people stay informed and safe.
