David Clugston posted thisThis isn’t normally my go but, hey, it’s now February, the job market’s just returning from its Christmas break, and I’ve got mouths to feed—so take this as a notice: I’M OPEN TO WORK. With deep experience across Australia and Asia, building and running analytics and insights teams, my point of difference isn’t in the data—it’s in its application. “Insight without application is useless!” has been my (slightly relentless) maxim since I started in marketing analytics 20 years ago. Despite AI’s progress, I'm a firm believer that the best application still needs a human in the loop. If you’re looking for a technician with a humanist’s heart; a scientist with an artist’s flair; someone who lives at the intersection of data and its creative, strategic application—please get in touch. I’m open to new roles, sure, but just as much the connection, the chat, the collaboration. The coffee’s on me! Specialities: Marketing & Commercial Analytics, Customer Insights, Marketing Effectiveness, Business & Marketing Strategy; Team Leadership; Business Development. Industry Experience: FMCG, Tech, Retail, Telco, QSR, Finance, Automotive.

David Clugston reposted thisDavid Clugston reposted thisI have done one new thing in 2025. That was getting involved hands on in social volunteering. I have not done this ever as I regarded all of this as some kind of scam (am sure most of you have been far more involved in social causes, so forgive this novice post). Its worth it. Just to meet people who actually care and are motivated enough to stop scrolling and get away from screens and actually do something beyond cheque book charity (read: me). 1. Have signed up with the community volunteer program in Singapore in #https://lnkd.in/gsVxjmr3 (which is my local. Its what’s around me) 2. Specifically focused on 2 areas: #OurGreenMoCA and #https://lnkd.in/gDARQDPP 3. One : picking up litter (yes , know that’s a bit “coals to Newcastle” in Singapore) and planting trees. 4. I excelled at the above with insider knowledge of where smokers throw their stubs and trash beer cans. Also, have surprisingly green fingers. 5. Learnt a lot at the #MOCA sustainabilty market place all about composting and have succesfully grown an actual vegetable on my balcony! 5. The mental health and suicide prevention initiatives were incredible eye openers for a person with my cynical DNA. 6. The best, inspiring thing about all the above is the wonderful spectrum of good people you meet. People like aunty June, pioneering generation (PG as Singaporeans label) who is just mystified by why kids today have mental health challenges and leans in to find out with an open heart and mind or the many residents of Newton who bring their kids to pick up litter forcing them away from Roblox. 7. Thanks to #caringforlifesg.org for organizing some incredibly insightful workshops. The sharing from heroes /heroines who have been in that dark pit was disturbing and illuminating. Have seen this sadly a few times and didn't act: I wish I knew then what I appreciate and know now. Nuff said. 8. You can’t save the world. You can’t reverse climate change. You can’t do a lot of things. But you can pick up that litter and put it in the bin and resolve to never ignore a call for help. 9. Most of all, it was great to meet, talk, engage and be better. Off screen. At least, it was for me. I know most of you are way ahead on this curve. Hope the rest will follow. Happy New Year> Brave New World. ##Moulmein #mentalhealth #MoCa #CaringforLife #OurGreenMoca #peoplesassociation

David Clugston liked thisDavid Clugston liked thisI think I'm starting to see a shift in the type of leader businesses want at the top. In the last few years, boards have understandably been prioritising financial discipline: protecting margins, managing costs and navigating uncertainty. Obviously, this has put leaders with finance backgrounds in a stronger position. But now many industry sectors are finding top-line growth harder to find. Once a business has tightened costs, the bigger challenge is winning customers, building demand and finding new avenues for growth. This is bringing leaders with sales and marketing backgrounds back into focus for CEO and GM roles. Of course, the strongest candidates will understand both sides of the equation: how to protect profitability and how to grow revenue. But I sense that boards are now placing more weight on a leader’s track record of creating growth, rather than primarily managing through a difficult market. Is it time for a change in the brief for senior leaders? Costello Executive #ValuingPeopleEmpoweringBusiness Antoine Ducatez Alexis Costello Regina Dino #Leadership #ExecRecruitment

David Clugston liked thisDavid Clugston liked thisSame title. $140k of salary gap. No wonder Head of Marketing searches stall. Not because the talent isn’t out there. Because “Head of Marketing” covers such a wide salary band that clients and candidates are often talking about completely different jobs. In market right now I’m seeing packages land anywhere from roughly $180k–$240k base in mid-market briefs, through to $220k–$320k + STI where the remit is broader — bigger team, real P&L ownership, board exposure. Same title. Very different scope. Very different commercial expectation. That’s where searches stall: * Budget sits at one end of the band * Strong candidates are priced at the other * Everyone thinks they’re “at market” If the package is light for the remit, you don’t get a quieter process. You get the wrong shortlist — or no shortlist. If you’re hiring a Head of Marketing, get clear before you go to market: what are they actually owning, and what’s the real package for that level of ownership? Curious how others are calibrating these briefs in 2026. #MarketingJobs #HeadOfMarketing #Recruitment #SydneyJobs

David Clugston liked thisDavid Clugston liked thisTHE PROBLEM ISN’T CULTURAL DIFFERENCE. IT’S CULTURAL MISALIGNMENT. Global companies spend enormous effort on strategy, structure, processes and capabilities. But one of the biggest sources of friction often sits underneath all of them: how people believe work should get done. Hierarchy. Autonomy. Disagreement. Decision-making. Accountability. When those assumptions differ across markets, the problem rarely gets labeled “culture.” It shows up as slower decisions, poor collaboration, endless escalations and frustrated talent. I wrote a short piece on why culture is not a soft issue, but part of the operating system of any global organization — and why the answer is not one global culture. Have a read and tell me what you think.THE PROBLEM ISN’T CULTURAL DIFFERENCE. IT’S CULTURAL MISALIGNMENT.THE PROBLEM ISN’T CULTURAL DIFFERENCE. IT’S CULTURAL MISALIGNMENT.Stephan Czypionka

David Clugston liked thisWe’re hiring a Senior Data Analyst at Go1. It’s a hands-on senior IC role for someone who enjoys getting beyond reporting — shaping the question, building trusted measurement, making sense of messy data, and helping people make better decisions. AU-based and remote-first. If this sounds like you, or someone you’d recommend, find out more below!David Clugston liked thisSome of the most valuable work in a business is often invisible at first.... It is the person asking: Are we measuring the right thing? The person who can spot the gap between a dashboard that looks polished and a metric that is actually useful. OR the person who helps a team move from “we think this is working” to “here’s what the evidence tells us, and what we should do next.” That is the impact this Senior Data Analyst will have at Go1. We’re investing in product-led growth and building new product experiences, including Morgan by Go1: helping organisations turn workforce signals, learning intelligence and business priorities into practical follow-through. Good product decisions need clear measurement, thoughtful instrumentation, and someone who can bring clarity when the answer isn't obvious. If that sounds like you... or someone exceptional in your network, slide into the DMs 💫 Annelise Dakin Megna Murali Jon Ducrou
