Not sure if relevant: Keycloak's default login theme also adds an empty string as an additional value for multiselect-checkboxes. This was added in keycloak/keycloak@9d47235 to fix an issue where it was impossible to unset a field, because when no checkbox is selected, the attribute is not included in the POST request. I'm not really sure whether the changes in this PR would cause a similar problem. Maybe interesting: Keycloak also had problems with the empty string added by the commit above (ref) which were resolved in the meantime. |

Why the fix is correct
About the empty-string concerniTob191 identified a real concern, but this PR does not introduce it. In Therefore, changing that state to The upstream changes address separate layers:
Merge this validation-state fix separately. Track clearing an existing optional checkbox attribute as a follow-up, with a submission-level test against Keycloak. Verification limitsI inspected the source and tests. I did not run repository code. The PR description reports 31 passing tests, type checking, and formatting checks. GitHub currently exposes only a successful CodeRabbit status, not an independent build/test result. Fixes #1056
Required multiselect checkbox attributes can keep a stale server-side validation error after the user changes the selection. Empty multivalued attributes are currently initialized with a
[""]placeholder, which is appropriate for repeated add/remove fields but not for grouped multiselect controls. The server-error retention check also compares only the initial prefix, so the placeholder keeps matching after a checkbox value is appended. This change initializes empty grouped multiselect fields with
[]and compares their full value array when deciding whether a server error is still applicable. Repeated multivalued fields keep the existing placeholder and prefix behavior.Tests cover clearing the server error after selecting a checkbox, restoring it when reverting to the original empty value, and preserving repeated-field behavior.
Validation:
