Hi there, I'm Dejan 👋
I drove Apache Kafka's three major Gradle upgrades (6→7, 7→8, 8→9) and its Java 25 support, working with Kafka committers and upstream projects.
DevOps and build/release engineer: Java, Scala, Android and more, across desktop, web and mobile apps.
- 🎯 highlights (notable Kafka pull requests):
- Expand gradle build: include Scala 2.13
- Remove redundant build code (unblock Gradle version upgrade from 6 to 7)
- Upgrade Gradle version from 6 to 7
- Upgrade Gradle version from 7 to 8
- Switch Gradle Shadow plugin
- Upgrade Gradle version from 8 to 9
- Support building with Java 25 (LTS release)
- CheckStyle version upgrade: 10 -->> 12
- Reduce build time: use tasks.register for Gradle tasks lazy creation
- GrGit dependency is dropped in favor of Eclipse JGit
- Upgrade argparse4 from 0.7.0 to 0.9.0
- Upgrade Gradle to 9.8.2 (security fix) and fetch the wrapper jar from a pinned commit

Kafka project Java 25 build was dependent on new SpotBugs version that was dependent on Apache Commons Byte Code Engineering Library (BCEL).
My role: I created a few tickets and testing PRs in order to enable Kafka's Java 25 build.
