The SCNI Toolbar is a library of Matlab functions and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that provide researchers with a simple and intuitive method of loading, editing, and saving parameters for a variety of systems involved in visual neurophysiology and neuroimaging experiments. While it has been specifically tailored to meet the needs of the Section on Cognitive Neurophysiology and Imaging (SCNI) and the Neurophysiology Imaging Facility (NIF) at the National Institutes of Health, it may be of more general use.
The main principle of the SCNI Toolbar is modularity. A structure named 'Params' is used to organize and easily pass many parameters between functions. Some of the toolbar's buttons launch GUIs, each of which is written specifically to edit the parameters related to a specific aspect of experimental control, such as hardware devices.
The SCNI toolbar GUIs are optimized for Matlab R2014b and later running on Ubuntu, which is the recommended system for running timing-critical visual neuroscience experiments under PsychToolbox. The functions should work correctly on Windows and OS X, but some formatting of the GUIs may be off and performance has not been tested.
