This PR includes a few minor tweaks to the dashboard:

  1. Does not allow the "weekly" button to be selected if there's no weekly data (In the time-series view, the weekly button should not be able to be selected if there is no weekly data #299)
  2. The default view is to show just modeled estimates and onsite data on the time series.
  3. Along with 2, updated some notes about how to show/hide different data series, and changed the format of the hidden series to be more visible.
  4. Updated description of onsite data to be more generalizable cross-projects.

closes #299

Hi @dietahanson, could you please give these updates a quick look-over today (by re-deploying locally)?

@EmiliaH, I'm also tagging you as optional since you reviewed the first go round (and have spent more time with the dashboard).

However, I do need this checked today, so as long as at least one of you has time to take a look, I'll go ahead and deploy it!

Hey @jblehr! I like the fixe for the weekly view option being unelectable, and also the change to the data source select instructions.

The only issues I see are (I think noted and fixed in this PR:

  • It appears that the older versionsof the readmes have snuck in
  • As has the issue with the unit polygons being overlapped

Thanks @EmiliaH! Did you pull down the most recent version of master in your trails-viz-data repo?

Also, this isn't necessary to change but here's the wording I'd prefer on the "click data sources" instructions. I'm not great at spelling but should "grayed out" be hyphenated?

"Click on a grayed-out data sources in legend above to display them on the plot; click again to hide."

Thanks @EmiliaH! Did you pull down the most recent version of master in your trails-viz-data repo?

Oh.... duh! No, sorry about that! Let me go and do that!

Okay, sorry about that @jblehr! Done and you're right, that was my issue! 😅

Looks like Spencer had a similar copy edit suggestion as I did so there's another plug for that minor change.

Otherwise, it's looking really good!

Hi @jblehr , yes, I'll get to this today, probably around 1 if that's ok!

Thanks @EmiliaH! I made the copy edit change.

Thanks @dietahanson - that's fine!

Hey @jblehr , just tested it--everything looks good to me data/ui wise. The only suggestion I have (but maybe you all have discussed this before) is the y-axis label on the time-series sort of looks like user-days divided by visits. It could be changed to "Users-Days or Visits", but I don't think it's super important.

O 8000 ne other small thing that isn't necessary for tomorrow about the links on the front page:

-A federal decision-makers’ guide to recreation monitoring with social media and crowd-sourced data -- gives a 404
-Moore-Sloan Data Science Environments -- goes to a website with some Chinese text
-it would be nice to add a link for the White 2007 reference

Other than that, it looks great!

Thanks @dietahanson! I made a few changes in the readme-link-updates-20260901 branch in trails-viz-data:

Done!

One other small thing that isn't necessary for tomorrow about the links on the front page:

Looks like we've changed our website links around. I think I fixed this with https://drive.google.com/file/d/148aUY64ednltrVsNMWzJ_gEEQGQHm_p0/view.

-Moore-Sloan Data Science Environments -- goes to a website with some Chinese text.

Good catch! I just removed this link, since I couldn't find a better one.

-it would be nice to add a link for the White 2007 reference

There was one on the other readme, but I just copied it over here too.
