I originally applied to Mapbox without knowing much about the company because they had an amazing job listing that talked about how they were looking for people with curiosity and a willingness to learn new things - and then my interviewer was wearing a pride shirt during our meeting which made me really happy to see!

Working at Mapbox is challenging, but in the best possible way: there’re always opportunities to grow, you’re encouraged to try and failures are considered learning experiences. And the people are great, Mapbox really has a knack for hiring intelligent, funny, empathetic people.

I started my career in public accounting and then moved to corporate accounting in the tech industry at my previous company. I was looking to transition to a company with similar culture and core values that I could relate with, which is how I found Mapbox!

Mapbox encourages team work, inclusivity, thinking outside of the box, and not being afraid to ask questions!  There’s never a dull moment, and there’s always an opportunity to learn with projects such as process improvements or new product launches.

I joined Mapbox because of the people and growth opportunities. My peers are supportive, authentic, hardworking, and fun! At Mapbox, I feel seen and recognized. I can and have made a meaningful impact on the business, and I get to see the results of my day-to-day work.

At Mapbox, I’ve been given opportunities to expand and grow my skills. Each area has been uncharted territory for me and with the help of my manager and cross-collaboration with other teams. I have been able to set and deliver on short and long term goals.

Being a map designer at Mapbox is a great mix of designing, tackling challenging technical problems and strategy. I work on many different topics, some related to map design, others to product development or map data curation. No day is exactly like the other: I may find myself figuring out how to resolve a critical bug or brainstorming with co-workers about how our products should evolve.

Mapbox gives me the opportunity to focus on the areas I want to grow in. For me, I really wanted to improve my coding skills. My manager and my team supported me and made it possible for me to work on a technical project related to map tooling, even though I wasn’t the most experienced person on the job. As a result, I have a much better understanding of how our tooling at Mapbox works!
