I read this article this morning and haven’t stopped thinking about it. The FDA has now linked the 2025–2026 infant formula outbreaks to a common ingredient supply chain, and I think there is a much bigger conversation here than what happened to either one of these companies. We talk a lot about creating more competition in infant formula. More brands, more options for parents, more innovation. I obviously believe deeply in all of those things. But what I keep coming back to is how much choice have we actually created if so many of those choices still depend on the same suppliers and the same underlying supply chain? I have spent the last few years learning just how complicated it is to build an infant formula company. The sourcing, manufacturing, testing, regulatory requirements, traceability, and the seemingly endless number of decisions behind a single can of formula sitting on a shelf. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that we can't just build more formula brands. We have to build more resilience into the system itself. I don't say any of this as criticism of the companies involved. If anything, building in this category has given me an enormous amount of respect for anyone willing to take it on. It is incredibly difficult work. But we also have to learn from what keeps happening. We need more transparency into where our ingredients come from. We need better traceability. We need to think seriously about supplier concentration and redundancy. And those of us building the next generation of infant nutrition have the benefit, and the responsibility, of building with these lessons from day one. Last week, an investor call brought our entire room to tears. After hearing about the momentum we’ve been building at Little One Nutrition Co., Michelle Denton [badass Mom, Investor, and Fire Chief] organized to bring a new group of angel investors onto our cap table. During our welcome meeting, we asked everyone a simple question: What does being a part of Little One mean to you? We heard so many incredible answers. Excitement about the opportunity. Belief in what we’re building. Stories about motherhood, feeding, and wanting to be part of changing this category. And then one investor shared her “why.” She was incredibly vulnerable about what this company, and what we are working to change, meant to her personally. This wasn’t simply an investment for her, it was personal. By the time she finished, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Building an infant formula company is hard. There are regulatory hurdles, manufacturing hurdles, fundraising hurdles, and days when the weight of what we’ve chosen to build feels enormous. But then you have a moment like this; a moment that gets engraved on your heart, it's a reminder that behind every milestone, every investor, and every can we put into a parent’s hands, there are real people with real stories. Those stories are why we keep going. Why we get back up the next morning with the same vigor. Why we believe Little One has the opportunity to become so much more than a company. Michelle, thank you for believing in us enough to bring this group together. And to every investor who has trusted us with not only your capital, but your stories and your why, we don’t take that responsibility lightly. We’re building Little One together. ❤️

Last month, I had the opportunity to speak at the 3rd Annual Novel Ingredients in Infant Formula Summit in Washington, D.C., alongside researchers, formulators, ingredient innovators, and some of the brightest minds shaping the future of infant nutrition. After two days of presentations and scientific discussions, one theme stood out above all others; the future of infant formula is digestibility. Nearly every presentation focused on helping babies better digest and utilize the nutrition they're receiving. Researchers presented data on prebiotics like GOS, novel HMOs, specialized proteins, fat structures, and emerging ingredients designed to improve gastrointestinal tolerance, nutrient absorption, stool quality, and overall feeding outcomes. The industry is recognizing what parents have known for years: feeding isn't just about what's on the label. It's about what a baby's body can comfortably digest and effectively use. What I found particularly interesting was that many of these innovations are being applied to traditional cow milk formulas in an effort to improve digestibility and bioavailability. In other words, the industry's biggest challenge isn't adding more nutrition. It's helping babies better access the nutrition that's already there. At Little One, this reinforces something we've believed from the beginning. We don't believe the future of infant nutrition is simply adding more ingredients to cow milk formula. We believe the future is starting with a foundation that is naturally easier for many babies to digest. Whole goat milk contains unique protein and fat characteristics that differ from cow milk. It forms softer curds in the stomach, contains naturally occurring oligosaccharides, and has been shown to support digestive comfort and nutrient absorption. Rather than engineering digestibility back into a formula, we're building from a nutritional foundation that was already designed differently. This isn't to say innovation isn't important. The advancements being explored across the industry are exciting and will undoubtedly improve outcomes for families everywhere. But sitting in room after room of scientists discussing ways to make bovine-based formulas more digestible, I couldn't help but feel that the conversation is validating what goat milk has represented all along. The question is no longer whether digestibility matters. The question is how we achieve it. And increasingly, the science appears to be pointing toward the same destination: helping babies absorb more, tolerate more, and thrive more comfortably. That's exactly the future we're building toward at Little One.
