But at the end of the day, opportunity is still given. You can grind, hustle, and perfect your craft. But someone still has to recognise it. So is success purely about work ethic and skill? Or is it about being in the right place, at the right time, with the right people watching? What’s your take? Source: The Pivot Podcast

Gaurav Agrawal shared thisCongratulations Dan Preston and Jason Mueller! Excited to see the company scale in 2026Gaurav Agrawal shared this2025 has been an incredible year at Stand, all thanks to our homeowners. Because our customers actively protect their homes from disasters, Stand is renewing all customers with zero rate increases this year, despite market volatility. We’re building a permanent partnership. We’re ending 2025 with over $2B in insured value and a dramatic increase in capacity to insure homes in California and Florida. We believe this represents the beginning of solving the insurance crisis: don’t just raise prices as risk changes. Intervene to protect the structure, in partnership with homeowners. Most importantly, we haven’t lost any customers due to mitigation needs, which is a core part of our practice: Help our customers protect their homes, while balancing aesthetics, cost, and convenience through the use of a custom physics model of your home.

Gaurav Agrawal reposted thisGaurav Agrawal reposted thisI had a revelation last week while meeting with a Fortune 500 CFO: Finance has fundamentally changed, and many teams haven't noticed yet. Finance used to be about oversight. Control. Checking and double-checking. Then AI arrived. Now, companies like Visa and PayPal aren’t using AI just for efficiency, they're using it to predict fraud before it happens, approve transactions before they're questioned, and optimize payment flows in real-time. Here's what I'm seeing across the industry: 1️⃣ AI isn't replacing finance teams, it's making them faster, sharper, and more strategic. 2️⃣ AI isn't just automating tasks, it's uncovering patterns that humans miss, especially in complex B2B revenue streams. 3️⃣ AI isn't just a feature, it's becoming the backbone of financial decision-making. If your finance strategy still relies on human intuition alone, you're already behind. Because the future of finance isn't just faster or cheaper, it's smarter. And the ones who adopt it first will redefine the game. At Vayu, we provide finance teams with the essential AI tools they need to streamline hybrid pricing and facilitate easy adoption. Gaurav Agrawal liked thisZach Nelson was CEO of NetSuite from $1m to $1B in revenue. We met a few months back through a mutual friend and immediately connected. It’s very rare you find a CEO you respect who has gone through the exact same journey you’re on. Zach is determined, obsessed with serving customers, and has killer instincts, but carries all of it with humility, self-deprecating humor, and an infectious laugh. When Zach was building NetSuite, he had to re-invent everything from scratch. NetSuite was the first SaaS company when every controller closed their books on-premise. CFOs struggled to trust that accounting could be done online and knew they wouldn't get fired for buying SAP (sound familiar?). He turned NetSuite from a small startup into a global powerhouse, the default choice for ambitious finance teams. This past week, Zach came to the Rillet HQ in SF for an AMA. As he shared his stories, you could see the heads nodding across the room. Rillet is going through the same journey as Zach did 20 years ago. Success basically comes down to hiring the right people and pursuing relentlessly. Because of all this, I'm incredibly excited to welcome Zach as an investor and advisor to Rillet. There are very few people we could learn more from as we build. Welcome, Zach, to team Rillet!

Gaurav Agrawal liked thisGaurav Agrawal liked thisDan Griggs, CFO at Fin and Brandon Zell CAO at Notion, joined our Head of Finance stephen hedlund to talk about rebuilding a finance function for the AI era. No theory. Just the mechanics. Which workflow they automated first, and why they picked that one. How to write prompts that give you accounting output you can actually trust. The daily habits they built into the close so the change stuck instead of fading after two weeks. And the bit most people underestimate: getting a team to change how they work. Both of them spent real time on that, because it's the part that decides whether any of it lands.

Gaurav Agrawal liked thisGaurav Agrawal liked thisThe Cascade LP x GP Charity Golf Tournament at Olympic Club on Monday was a fantastic experience! I can’t thank Iñaki Pedroarena-Leal, David Park and Caroline Hale enough for including us in the amazing network they’ve built with CASCADE. It was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends, make some new ones, and, most importantly, support a fantastic cause in The Pinkney Foundation. While Bill Okvist was out on the course, Jordan Gregory and I set up the Aduro Advisors tent on the 11th, stocked with Swedish gummy candy and cans of Lumen - Clear Protein & ROC® Wellness Shots to provide a little power boost to the GPs, LPs, and athletes making their way around the course. No doubt we helped turn a few bogeys into birdies! Beyond watching Will Allen's group go crazy on a putt at the hole across from us, one of the highlights for me was getting to spend time with every group that came through. The handshakes, high-fives, laughs, razzing, and genuine connections were a great reminder that personal interactions are still something you can't just AI....at least for now. And despite being on our feet for 6+ hours on the course, we still had plenty of pep in our step at the post-tournament awards ceremony and networking happy hour, thanks in no small part to our TRUE linkswear® kicks! Already looking forward to the next one!

Gaurav Agrawal liked thisGaurav Agrawal liked thisWhat happens when you combine the versatility of a humanoid robot with the precision of a robotic arm? ZINOVA's TRON2 puts both in one machine: a 360-degree working range, a modular design and the reach to take on complex construction tasks. The pairing matters because the two form factors have opposite strengths: → A humanoid moves through spaces built for people and struggles with repeatable precision. → An arm delivers precision and stays bolted where you put it. Construction sites need both, which is why almost nothing on them is automated today. Building smarter machines is the easier half. Finding the right job for each one is what decides whether any of this reaches a site. Our round is open from $2,500 with up to 20% bonus shares: https://lnkd.in/dc_EtjgN What would you put it to work on first?

Gaurav Agrawal liked thisGaurav Agrawal liked thisThis week I joined Baseten to lead the Global SDR team. First, Watershed. For the last year and a half, I helped build a company working on one of the world's most pressing problems: how to combine economic growth with reduced environmental impact. Thank you to Taylor Francis, Dan Miller-Smith, Paul Goodman, Ellen Scott-Young, Tom McClure, Alexa Schirtzinger, and David Addison for bringing me in and trusting me to help crank up the pipegen engine. Watershed is going to be a generational business of global consequence, and I'm grateful to have been part of one of its chapters. When I decided I couldn't sit on the sidelines of history’s biggest technology shift any longer, I wanted to be hyper-deliberate about where in the AI landscape I landed, and with whom. The goal I kept coming back to was: help build a GTM org that, years from now, gets looked at as the best new sales team of this era. The one everyone else studies and tries to poach from. And, importantly, do it with a team that runs with intensity and urgency but never loses its levity or its individuality. To take a real swing at that, I was looking for a few specific things: • An uncomfortably ambitious mission, paired with a humble and pragmatic approach. • A product that solves mission-critical customer problems... • ...within an inevitable layer of the AI stack with real market pull behind it (inference!). • An exec team with the confidence of experience and the compulsion to innovate and learn fast. • Early enough that the pace is kinetic, the building is foundational and chaotic, and every action feels both urgent and impactful (that's where the best personal growth and fulfillment happen). Big markets and steep growth curves feel ubiquitous in the valley right now. The intangibles (culture, leadership, how a team actually treats its people and its customers) are harder to find and even harder to assess. I worried I'd end up compromising on one or two. Then I had my first call with Matthew Slagle and Elena Woodside. From that moment on, every conversation I had with and about Baseten pointed the same direction, and I knew I'd found my place. You can research and qualify all you want. Some decisions just feel right from the first conversation. Thank you to Elena Woodside for running a wonderful candidate experience, and to Matthew Slagle, Joseph Sandler, Emily Lepetsos, and the wider team for the trust. Grateful for the opportunity to help build Baseten, excited to start running, and ready to learn.

Gaurav Agrawal liked thisGaurav Agrawal liked thisColleagues who become dear friends are a gift you don’t expect when you start a new job. My relationships with Steve Sordello, Jeff Weiner and Ryan Roslansky are some of the most treasured ones of my 32-year career. We were in the trenches together for a decade while building LinkedIn and experienced so many highs, a couple of lows, limitless growth, and a ton of fun. I am so grateful for all that I learned from all three of them and even more grateful we can meet for dinner all these years later - and pick up right where we left off. Work can be all-consuming and difficult at times, but it’s so much easier and a lot more fun when you get to do it with people you’d choose as friends.

Gaurav Agrawal liked thisGaurav Agrawal liked thisThe real risk today isn’t using AI incorrectly. It’s not using it enough. I’ve been reflecting on something Jensen Huang said recently. If you’re a $500,000 engineer… and you’re only spending a few thousand dollars on AI tools, something doesn’t add up. His point is simple. Not using AI is like a chip designer refusing CAD software and working with paper and pencil. The first time I thought about it this way, it shifted my perspective. AI isn’t a cost. It’s leverage. And in high-level work, leverage defines output. If you’re not using AI to multiply your impact, it’s not just inefficiency. It’s a signal. A signal that you may not be operating at the level your role demands. So here’s something I’d be curious to hear from you: In your work today, are you using AI occasionally… or relying on it to perform at your best? #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #Productivity #FutureOfWork #Innovation

Transactions are decisions under uncertainty. Quality of Earnings reduces that uncertainty. We’ve supported QoE engagements for both buy-side and sell-side clients across companies generating $500K to $80M+ in revenue. One consistent takeaway: Adjusted EBITDA is rarely a single fixed answer. It’s a range. A framework. A series of judgments that require accounting depth and forward-looking thinking. Our process focuses on: • Multiple EBITDA case scenarios • Working capital sustainability • Margin durability • Post-transaction tax considerations • Clear articulation of risks and assumptions Whether you’re private equity, a strategic acquirer, a lender, or a business owner preparing for exit — clarity drives better decisions. And better decisions drive better outcomes. #TransactionAdvisory #QualityOfEarnings #M&A #StrategicFinance #PrivateEquity

Hg built software so 2,500 executives could share what works The system is called Hive. It connects senior leaders across more than 60 companies in Hg's portfolio. Hg also has a library of tools, templates and playbooks that its companies can use. The idea is simple. When one company learns something useful, the rest should not have to learn it again. One CFO fixes a pricing problem. One CTO learns why a system move failed. One team finds the number that warns customers may leave. Most funds lose those lessons when people leave or the company is sold. Hg gives those lessons somewhere to live. That may be more valuable than another AI tool. A smaller fund can build the same basic system today. Put board reports, project reviews, supplier notes and lessons from past deals in one secure place. Label each lesson by company, sector, team, problem and result. Add an AI agent that can search the files and show its sources. When the same question keeps coming up, turn the best answer into a playbook. You do not need 2,500 executives. You need ten companies sharing what they know so the eleventh starts ahead. The AI model is not the advantage. The advantage is the knowledge collected across every company the fund has owned. Most funds call their portfolio a network. Hg built software that helps it act like one. The smartest fund may not know more. It may simply forget less.

The in-house vs. outsourced CFO question does not have one right answer. For PE managers and VC managers, the answer often looks very different. A lot of times, the conversation starts with "should we hire a CFO or outsource the role?" There are a number of factors that go into that decision. But one that often does not get considered is the investment strategy itself. Your management fees have to fund the entire management company, including the investment team, investor relations, operations, technology, overhead, and cash reserves. And after all of that, the partners still need to get paid. A PE manager expecting to make 5 to 10 investments may need a very different investment team than a venture manager expecting to make 30 or more. And that affects how much of the management fee is available for everything else. If your strategy means a larger investment team, you have less of the management fee available for the back office. Keeping back office costs variable makes sense. It is also all the more important not to take on fully-loaded in-house roles if the amount of work or complexity does not actually warrant it. If you have a smaller investment team and more flexibility in the budget, that opens up options for bringing things in-house, if that is your preference.

Most deal teams don’t lack capability. They lack capacity. When internal teams are stretched, execution quality suffers—not because of talent, but because of bandwidth. That’s where interim execution support can make the biggest difference. I’ve spent much of my work filling that exact gap during critical periods. How are others solving for capacity constraints during deals? #MergersAndAcquisitions #PrivateEquity #InterimLeadership

What is different this time re VC? One thing is we are getting calls from early investors for liquidity on companies who have yet to establish the first phase of gross margin let alone operating margins, let alone a demonstrated ability to be a compounder for public equity shareholders. That's not to say things are not working. Everything but price discovery and liquidity is working. What is your take? I'll offer that 2027 could be a big year for M&A in terms of quantity of assignments for the banks.

Carom Growth Partners • 1K followers
I'm happy to share that Clockworks Analytics has received a $15M minority growth investment from Carom Growth Partners to support the next chapter of its journey. For more than 15 years, the team has been building the world’s leading enterprise SaaS platform for continuous, real-time monitoring of HVAC and building systems—helping some of the most complex facilities operate more reliably and efficiently. Today, Clockworks supports hospital systems, pharmaceutical facilities, and university and corporate campuses, as well as their service providers, across the U.S. and Europe—where performance, compliance, and uptime truly matter. The company's groth continues to accelerate, fueled by a growing base of six and seven-figure enterprise customers, and expanding adoption across mission-critical environments—resulting in nearly 2.5x valuation growth since its last financing round. This progress reflects the leadership of Co-CEOs, Nick Gayeski and Brian Day , and an exceptional team that shows up every day in service of its mission: to make a massive positive impact on the built environment. Carom Growth Partners works closely with a small group of standout, founder-led enterprise technology companies, taking a long-term, hands-on approach. This investment provides liquidity for early shareholders alongside growth capital to support Clockworks' continued expansion. I'm excited—and energized—for what’s ahead. 🚀
