Brandon Middleton shared thisThis is what it’s all about (for me) … Happy Friday friends!!! 😎✌🏾🧡Brandon Middleton shared thisMy son is 16, his 1st employee is an AI coding agent, and this week he landed his 1st customer. He is a student in my Entrepreneurship class, which is an Applied Learning and AI first course. No textbook, fill-in-the-blank worksheets, or multiple choice tests. Each student runs their own real side hustle the entire class, with AI in the loop from day one. How it works: Students are interviewed by AI to surface their interests, goals, and what they already have: skills, tools, time, people. AI generates side hustle options from that inventory. Before they commit, they run a SWOT on their top choices. The point is not the strengths. The point is knowing their biggest weakness and threat before they start. That analysis helps them decide on their pitch audience. Employee, partner, investor, or customer. Whichever one fills the biggest gap. Then they build a pitch designed to get a yes from that target audience. From there, AI becomes a council of experts and their first employee. It helps them build the marketing plan, social profiles, content, and website. Ideas turn into assets. Then it stays on the job through research, planning, building, and operating the business. The rest is the hard part and it is on them. Door knocking, cold calls, tracking weekly activities they fully control, running experiments, building spreadsheets, adjusting price and offerings, and presenting results at the end. Wins and failures both count. His hustle: websites for local small businesses. He uses Google Maps to find active small businesses with recent reviews and no website, or a bad one. Then he walks in and pitches. No upfront fee. He builds for free and asks for a small monthly retainer plus some product or service in trade. Cheap enough to say yes to. Recurring enough to matter. If the site brings in customers, they stay. His employee is Replit Agent 4. A 16 year old can go from a walk-in pitch to a live site in a day. That was not possible for my students three years ago. I am proud to say that my son has leaned into both his curiosity and his courage. As of today, he has rejoined Replit full time as part of its Education Partnerships team. In my opening remarks on our second Day One, I challenged #AWSMLU to take one bold idea home to your campus. Not to talk about it, but to do it. I saw many heads nodding. The ideas are there. We came together to talk them through. Now is the time to turn your ideas into action. What specific commitment will you make—and by when? Comment below with one concrete next step and a deadline. For example: “I’ll redesign one lesson using an AI tool by October 15,” “I’ll convene my colleagues for a machine learning discussion by Friday,” or “I’ll create a new student opportunity by the end of the semester.” I really want to hear from the students who are starting their AWS Student Builder Groups this semester, the faculty who are rolling out new curriculum this semester, the researchers who are collaborating on new projects, and administrators who are ready to make the move to advance their campus for AI education. Don’t give us your secret sauce, just a general idea. 😁😁😁😁 We left inspired and committed. Brandon Middleton liked thisBrandon Middleton liked thisYesterday I met Amjad Masad Co-Founder and CEO of Replit, after his Acquired mainstage interview at WeAreDevelopers World Congress in SJ. Last week I asked Haya Odeh, Co-Founder of Replit, at TechWadi on how recent grads break into this market. So I told him about it, and how much it mattered to see a woman co-founder on that stage answering that question. Both halves of Replit in one week. ✨ And the thread goes back further. Not long ago I got selected for the Replit University Ambassador Program. Then I graduated. By the time I got in I was already walking across a stage with a master's. Timing is undefeated. 😅 Which made Amjad's talk land very interesting. The part I keep replaying wasn't about capability. It was about trust: Replit is transactional. Every action is reversible, including agent actions. That's the whole enterprise story. Companies don't hesitate on agents because they doubt the capability. They hesitate because they can't undo it. 💛 Grateful to Frederick Alexander and Brandon Middleton, who were both genuinely helpful through the process. Building on its powerful legacy of grassroots social justice, creativity, and innovation in action, Oakland is forging as an alternative example of what could an equitable future that puts local builders, entrepreneurs, creators, educators, workers, students, advocates at the forefront of purposeful innovation resulting in shared prosperity entail. - Introduction to Digital Documentation & Storyboarding

The output of this course was excellent. The kids collaborated to put together two 10-minute documentaries (one on animal cruelty in the food production process, the second on racial profiling and stereotyping). I would highly recommend volunteering with Citizen Schools, the impact delivered to the kids is tremendous. -

In this special episode of 𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘥 recorded at DevLearn, Cindy challenges listeners to raise the bar for virtual classroom design and embrace opportunities for AI support -- while also making the case for the enduring value of human facilitators. She talks about the lingering “Telling Ain’t Training” problem, the reality that many quick pivot virtual programs delivered in the wake of COVID were never properly redesigned, and the new AI capabilities that are quietly making life easier for facilitators and learners. Higher education has a critical role to play in closing the skills gap between the classroom and the workforce - and this blog highlights three clear priorities to make that happen: 1. embedding real‑world, in‑demand skills into curriculum, 2. equipping faculty with practical, industry‑aligned tools and resources, and 3. building stronger connections between education and employers.
