Customer Success was never meant to be a one-person job. Yet somewhere along the way, we created the expectation that one CSM should be responsible for… well, basically everything. Onboard the customer. Drive adoption. Solve problems. Manage the relationship. Prevent churn. Find expansion opportunities. And somehow do all of it proactively at scale. 😅 That model might work for a small customer base. But as organizations grow, specialization becomes less of a luxury and more of a necessity. The strongest Customer Success organizations understand that the customer journey is a team sport. 🟦 Onboarding ensures customers get off to the right start. 🟩 Adoption helps them realize value. 🟢 Customer Success provides strategic partnership. 🟧 Retention protects the value already created. 🟦 Growth identifies opportunities to deepen the relationship. Different expertise. Different moments in the journey. One shared mission: customer outcomes. And here's the part I think is especially important: Specialization doesn't mean creating more handoffs and making the customer figure out who does what. It means building a connected operating model where each function knows its role, shares context, and ultimately makes the customer feel like they're working with one team. Because the goal shouldn't be to have the best CSM who can do everything. The goal should be to build a Customer Success organization where the customer doesn't have to rely on one person to get everything they need. That's how you scale without sacrificing the customer experience.

This week, we reached an important milestone: combining Cox Communications with Charter. It's somewhat fitting that it happened around this time of year, as August is always an important time for us.   It was on this date back in 1898 when my great-grandfather, Governor James M. Cox, then just 28 years old, borrowed $26,000 from friends and family to buy a struggling Dayton newspaper. He renamed it the Dayton Daily News and set out to make it, in his words, "the people's paper." That one newspaper was the start of everything that became Cox Enterprises.   What amazes me is how far we've come since. From a single paper in Ohio, we've grown and reinvented ourselves again and again. From radio and television, to automotive, cable, cleantech, agriculture and so much more. Every generation of this company has found a new way to build.   None of it came easy. Over the decades, we've lived through world wars, economic downturns, natural disasters, a global pandemic and plenty of moments that have tested us. But through it all, one thing has stayed constant: our values. Time and again, we've found new ways to solve problems, serve our customers and communities, and build for the future. That's what gives me so much confidence about what comes next.   I'm incredibly proud of the businesses we've built and the people who bring them to life every day. From Cox Automotive, Cox Farms and Nexus Circular, to OpenGov, Axios and Cox Outdoors, we've accomplished a great deal together.   I feel that same pride in Cox Communications. For decades, it has been one of our most remarkable chapters, built by talented, dedicated people who connected millions of homes and communities across the country. That legacy doesn't end here. It carries forward and grows as part of the new Charter (soon to be Cox Communications), and we’re proud to be the largest shareholder of this new company. To everyone at Cox Communications, past and present: thank you. We couldn't be prouder of what you've built.   And while it's important to celebrate how far we've come, I'm also excited about where we're going. There's a feeling in our company that even though we've been around for 128 years, we're just getting started. We want to build businesses that matter, that strengthen our communities and create a better future for the next generation.   That's a big ambition, but it's one we've been pursuing for generations. And with the talent, creativity and commitment we have across this company, I believe it's something we can achieve together.
