From a small Dutch town to world champions. 🏆🥁 A few weeks ago, Drum Band Hasselt achieved a dream years in the making. Our team of 26 musicians from Hasselt became World Champions in the World Division – Marching category at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, with a remarkable 90.75 points. Behind that achievement are years of discipline, friendship, rehearsals, performances and thousands of kilometres on the road. But after all those years, our uniforms have reached the end of their journey too. We’re now raising around €30,000 to provide all 26 musicians with new, high-quality uniforms that reflect the team we are today — and the world champions we have become. The campaign has already raised more than €3,300, thanks to the support of our community, friends and music lovers. Every contribution helps bring a new uniform closer. When a disaster hits a place that once felt like home, you don't look away. I spent five years living in Nepal while completing my law studies and later worked as a tour guide, taking groups through areas that have now been affected by the devastating flash floods of August 26. I know the communities there. I know the people. And I know a family whose entire home was swept away. That's why I started a WhyDonate campaign to provide direct financial support. Having lived in Nepal, I've also seen how international aid can involve substantial operational and administrative costs. While those costs can be necessary, I wanted this particular initiative to follow a different model: Community-supported. Direct. Transparent. Accountable. Our fundraising goal is approximately €2,500, and we've already raised nearly half. Most importantly, we intend to document where every euro cent goes, so supporters can follow how the funds are used. At the end of October, I will travel to Nepal with two colleagues to personally deliver the funds. For me, this campaign is also about gratitude. Nepal gave me five important years of my life. Its people taught me a great deal about resilience, generosity and human connection. Now, during a difficult moment, I believe it's our turn to give something back. Disaster recovery doesn't end when the immediate emergency is over. My name is Blanca, and I'm from Curaçao. I'm raising funds to support animals affected by the earthquake in Venezuela on June 24. While much of the immediate attention after a disaster focuses on people and infrastructure, animals can remain vulnerable long after the initial emergency has passed. In areas such as La Guaira, Catia la Mar and Caraballeda, local rescuers and animal activists continue searching damaged areas, supporting displaced animals and helping those still living on the streets. Our fundraising goal is €25,000, which will help support: 🐾 Animal rescue operations 🏥 Veterinary and emergency care 🏠 Reception and shelter centres ✂️ Sterilisation programmes 🍲 Essential supplies 🤝 Local animal rescue organisations and activists We are already supporting several reception centres and local partners in Venezuela. We're also working with partners such as Patitas Callejeras to strengthen the delivery of supplies from Curaçao to communities that need them. One important part of the work ahead is sterilisation. Rescuing animals is essential, but responsible sterilisation can also help prevent the cycle of abandonment and suffering from continuing. This is long-term recovery, not just emergency response. Three World Championship medals — and a season still to finish. 🥇🥈🥈 I'm Leonor, an OCR athlete from Portugal. Obstacle Course Racing is a demanding sport combining running with obstacles that test strength, endurance, balance, precision and mental resilience. This August, I competed at the OCR World Championships with the support of my crowdfunding campaign. I'm incredibly proud to have achieved: 🥇 1st place — Standard Course 🥈 2nd place — Short Course 🥈 2nd place — 400m Course All in the 20–24 age category. While the World Championships are now behind me, my competitive season continues until December. My upcoming races will mainly take place in Spain through the OCR Series, where the level of competition is particularly strong. For an athlete competing internationally, the challenge isn't only what happens on the course. There are also the practical costs behind every race: Travel Registration fees Accommodation Competition-related expenses That's why I'm keeping my crowdfunding campaign open. What if a road trip could leave something behind? We're Otto & Mechteld from the Netherlands, and on 17 October 2026, we're setting off on a 7,400 km journey to Brufut, Gambia. We're participating in the Gambia Challenge to raise funds for the Brufut Health Center, which provides healthcare to Brufut and surrounding communities. This isn't simply a fundraising trip. It's about supporting practical improvements that can directly strengthen healthcare delivery. Previous donations have already contributed to important improvements, including the renovation and reopening of the maternity unit. The next priorities include: 🔬 Laboratory improvements 🩸 Blood bank 🏥 Emergency department 🛠️ Medical facilities and equipment And the journey itself has another purpose. Once we arrive in Gambia, our car will be auctioned locally, with the proceeds going to the Brufut Foundation and supporting the health center. That means our contribution doesn't end when we arrive. The car continues its journey as a contribution to the community. We're travelling from the Netherlands through Europe and Africa, aiming to reach Gambia on 7 November 2026. Learning to walk again doesn’t happen overnight. It happens one difficult step at a time. 💚 After multiple surgeries and severe spinal and leg injuries, rehabilitation is now a daily part of recovery. Gait training has begun with a body-weight support system, helping make it possible to practise standing and taking steps again. Strong institutions are not those whose decisions can never be questioned. They are those whose decisions can always be independently reviewed. That principle sits at the heart of this legal crowdfunding campaign. The campaign seeks to bring an administrative dispute before the EU General Court, raising broader questions about the relationship between administrative discretion, professional merit, factual evidence and legal certainty. At stake are questions such as: • To what extent can administrative discretion affect professional careers? • Should decisions rely on objectively established facts rather than predictions or assumptions? • Can unwritten expectations override established legal rules? • What mechanisms ensure that administrative power remains subject to effective legal limits? These questions matter beyond one individual case. They speak to the institutional principles that underpin the European project: rule of law, accountability, legal certainty, fairness and effective judicial review. Public institutions need discretion to function effectively. But discretion cannot mean unlimited power. A healthy legal system allows decisions to be questioned, reviewed and, where necessary, challenged.
