WebAIM Screen Reader User Survey #11 results are now available. For more than a decade, WebAIM’s Screen Reader User Survey has helped the accessibility community better understand how people who use screen readers experience the web, what technologies they use, and where accessibility barriers remain. The latest survey provides a new look at screen reader use, preferences, and online experiences, while also providing an opportunity to view changes over time. Relying only on placeholder text for form labels creates barriers. It disappears as users type and may not be reliably announced by screen readers. Persistent, programmatically associated labels (<label> elements) ensure users can always understand the purpose of each field. AI isn’t a shortcut to accessibility—it depends on it. As this piece from Anna Cook, M.S. highlights, #AI doesn’t fix broken systems; it inherits and scales them. Without strong, accessible foundations, the same barriers persist.
