When four dams on the Klamath River in California came down, we saw what happens when a river starts being restored. Stretches where dams and hydropower facilities released hundreds of thousands of CO2e into the air per year became carbon sinks. Salmon returned to streams they hadn’t reached in a century. We're in business to save our home planet.
About us
Founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973, Patagonia is an outdoor apparel company based in Ventura, California. A certified B-Corporation, Patagonia’s mission is to save our home planet. The company is recognized internationally for its commitment to authentic product quality and environmental activism, donating 1% of sales annually, contributing over $100 million in grants and in-kind donations since 1985. We’re always looking for motivated people to join us in our retail stores; at our Ventura, California headquarters; Reno, Nevada Service Center; and occasionally in our overseas offices. We’re especially interested if you love spending as much time as possible in the mountains or the wild, feel more at home in a base camp or on the river than an office, and have a passion for something outside of yourself, whether for surfing or opera, climbing or gardening, skiing or community activism. Learn more about who we are and how we hire by visiting our Careers website at http://www.patagonia.com/us/careers.

The California Fashion Environmental Accountability Act would be a landmark climate and public health policy and hold large footwear and apparel companies accountable for their carbon footprint. Read our CEO Ryan Gellert’s thoughts on why it must become law below. https://lnkd.in/dP2Bp_HZ

In 2022, part of the Cochamó Valley, in Chile, was put up for auction at Christie’s, alongside beachfront mansions and investment properties. Cochamò is a small part of a larger tract of wild land that connects 4 million acres of protected areas across Chile and Argentina. Some call it the “Yosemite of South America”, it’s a paradise of biodiversity, outdoor recreation, and traditional life ways of the people living in it. Since then, Conserva Puchegüín, a coalition of conservation organizations supported by scientists and community members, has been working nonstop to raise the funds to purchase the land and protect it from development -and with an assist from Patagonia's Holdfast Collective, they just did it. We’re happy to be part of this effort with Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA) and so many committed companies. Moving toward scalable e-fuels is an important step for reducing emissions in global shipping—and it only happens when we work together.
‼️TODAY, ZEMBA announced the outcome of its second collective procurement: deployment of two scalable e-fuels, e-methanol and e-ammonia, in container shipping. Both fuels will be made with low-carbon hydrogen produced with renewable energy and will deliver a carbon intensity reduction of at least 90% on a lifecycle basis relative to conventional high-emission fuel. 🌍 ZEMBA congratulates the two winning shipping lines, global container line Hapag-Lloyd AG and regional feeder North Sea Container Line (NCL), for their leadership in redefining what’s possible in this industry. 🎉 Based on commitments to date, this ground-breaking effort will enable participating member companies, including cofounders Amazon, Patagonia and Tchibo, and members including Beiersdorf, Brooks Running, Green Worldwide Shipping, LLC®, IKEA, Nike, Poly Medicure Ltd, and Sport-Thieme to deploy e-fuels on an initial 20 billion tonne nautical miles of transport activity over three years, with some members extending to five years. This results in at least approximately a combined 120,000 metric tonnes of GHG emissions abated starting in 2027. 💡 Contracting remains ongoing, and ZEMBA welcomes additional freight buyers to reach out if interested in joining this deal here: https://lnkd.in/ePKwspFK 🔎 To learn more about ZEMBA’s historic e-fuel tender, check out our press release here: https://lnkd.in/emY7TaNy Thanks to our close partners for their collaboration and support in achieving this milestone: Center for Green Market Activation (GMA), Lloyd's Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, Katalist #shipZEMBA #sustainableshipping #efuels

Jeff Foott, climber, conservation photographer, and good friend to our company, passed away earlier this month. When asked what he might want people to know about him 100 years from now, he replied, “It would have nothing to do with climbing. I would like them to know that there were some people on the planet who were concerned, and tried to do something about climate change, democracy, everything that we hold dear.” Jeff Foott was Yosemite’s first rescue ranger, an early Chouinard Equipment employee, and a marine biologist who loved sea otters. He was a talented photographer who felt at home in the wild. We included many of Jeff's photographs in our catalogs throughout the years, and his images of Bears Ears in particular helped the world see what was at stake in the fight to protect it. We were lucky enough to see how he viewed the natural world through his photos, but we were even luckier to have called him a friend.

Throughout Patagonia’s history, quality has been a constant pursuit in everything we do. Our president, Jenna Johnson, plays a vital role in bringing that philosophy to life through our products and beyond. “It’s how we build trust. It’s how we build loyalty. It’s how we show the value of quality,” Jenna told Shop Eat Surf Outdoor’s Kate Robertson. “It’s how we then build these relationships with people in order to be able to ask them to do things above and beyond, like join activism efforts with us, sign petitions with us, and be part of a community that’s having a bigger and bigger impact.” Read the full piece and Jenna’s reflections on 15 years at Patagonia below. https://lnkd.in/eQfh2F9k

Knowing more about the chemicals that make up the world—and the products—around us is vital to making responsible decisions. No single company can compile all that information alone. By joining the Safer Chemistry Impact Fund, we’re working with others to close knowledge gaps across industries. Read about the partnership below.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re teaming up with the Conservation Lands Foundation to help them fight the largest public lands sell-off in U.S. history. Wildlife habitats, clean air and water, and access to millions of acres are at stake. Donate at checkout and your contribution will be matched, doubling your impact. If you’re not shopping, no problem—you can donate through Patagonia Action Works without making a purchase. Every dollar you give supports the protection and restoration of America’s cherished public lands. Our nonprofit owner, Holdfast Collective, and our payments partner, Adyen, have already contributed $250,000 each to this effort. We hope you can join in, too. Together, we can be a force for protecting what connects us—today, and for generations to come. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gT3svKsP

There’s no business on a dead planet. Unchecked capitalism is depleting natural resources faster than they can be replaced. But what if there was another way to use capitalism? What if businesses invested in solving problems, paid their employees a living wage and gave the rest to tackling the climate crisis? Call us crazy for trying it. But one thing we’ve learned over the past 50+ years is that the unthinkable always seems impossible until it comes true. Find out more about our deal at https://lnkd.in/g-UE-S7E
