Meet Crew-14! NASA astronauts Kayla Barron and Chris Birch, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Makoto Suwa, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Arutyun Kiviryan will lift off to the International Space Station no earlier than March 2027, where they will live for several months. This galaxy is a little extra. You’re looking at Messier 106, a spiral galaxy with an extra set of arms. These two additional arms are made of gas heated up by jets from the galaxy’s central black hole. X-ray data depicted in royal blue by our Chandra X-ray Observatory shows superheated shockwaves created by these jets.

Sept. 22 marks the fall equinox, when autumn begins in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, it's the first day of spring. During the autumnal equinox, the Sun is directly above Earth's equator and day and night are close to equal in length around the world. From there, daylight keeps getting shorter in the Northern Hemisphere and longer in the Southern Hemisphere.
