Over the past three years we've fully switched DORA into a trusted source of insights and guidance for how teams can use AI across the entire software development and delivery lifecycle. We've brought forward the narrative that AI acts primarily as an amplifier, have made a case for investing in platforms that allow everyone to build reliable applications, and have provided a framework for discussing the ROI of AI in the SDLC. DORA's AI Capabilities and Core models continue to inform the way teams are improving. And the DORA Community, with over 5,000 members, continues to share lessons learned and will continue to support each other along the way. It's time for the next step in DORA's ongoing evolution. DORA will not run an annual survey this year and will not publish a 2026 State of AI-assisted Software Development report. These surveys have provided extremely rich snapshots of the industry and the data from them create the foundation for our analysis. But we have also been doing more qualitative and observational research lately. We are exploring how these types of efforts will help us respond more quickly to changes in the landscape and bring forward the next chapter of DORA. #GBGB

Have you ever sat in an online meeting during those first few minutes of awkward silence, waiting for everyone to join? To solve this for the DORA community, we would listen to a tech parody video that we found on YouTube that related to the discussion topic.  Unfortunately, after a few years..I was running out of new tech parodies, so I decided to build our own solution: DORA Songsmith, an automated pipeline that transforms community event descriptions into fully produced, 3-minute tech parody music videos to welcome our community to the discussion. This journey was an absolute roller coaster for me, it forced me to shift my developer mindset from writing linear procedural code to composing and orchestrating a system of specialized AI agents. The journey to MVP for the DORA Songsmith took me a year..please don't judge! It was totally worth it when I finally was able to successfully generate a custom music video for the DORA community. It started with a Python script, but ended with a specialized crew of agents to bring my vision to life. What is stopping you from YOLO’ing AI-written code directly into production? While that question might make you roll your eyes at first, the answer will help shape what your internal platform should focus on. I think this was a great way to turn fears into actionable points in Nathen Harvey’s presentation, Scale Brilliance, Not Bottlenecks: Building Platforms for the AI-First World at honeycomb.io O11yCon 2026. As the ways of working are rapidly changing, I believe the industry should start focusing on Contributor Experience over Developer Experience, a concept I highlighted in my last post. Now that most developers write code using AI, improving the Agentic Experience naturally improves the Developer Experience, and vice versa. This matters now more than ever as non-developers, whom Nathen presents as Builders, are starting to contribute to codebases. Because they rely entirely on AI tools, the same loop applies: an improved Agentic Experience translates to a better Builder Experience. This brings us right back to the provocative, spicy opening question about what to focus on: building a stronger internal platform so that everyone can contribute, safely ship fixes and features, and solve customer problems. The presentation also touches on topics like the DORA report on AI adoption, tokenmaxxing and leaderboards, AI’s impact on team performance, and burnout from context switching.
