When Allen Millard was 14, a firsthand look at engineering sparked a passion that would become a career. Today, as an engineering manager at GE Vernova, he's helping create similar opportunities for the next generation through Engineers of Change. By bringing engineering into high schools, the program gives students the chance to explore new possibilities, build confidence, and imagine futures they may never have considered. The future of energy starts with inspiring the people who will build it.

Every leap forward in energy starts with something surprisingly small: the materials that make it possible. The challenge is finding breakthroughs that can unlock the next generation of energy technologies, and doing it faster than ever before. As demand grows for more efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy systems, accelerating discovery becomes just as important as the discoveries themselves. That's why advanced materials science matters. By combining deep materials expertise with AI-enabled discovery and inspection capabilities, we're helping identify new possibilities faster and apply them where they can have real-world impact. Tomorrow's energy breakthroughs may start long before a technology reaches the grid. Smarter materials are what unlocks smarter solutions across the entire energy ecosystem.

There is no single route into the future of energy. MIT students interning with GE Vernova share the advice they wish they had heard before college, plus a few real truths about finding your path and stepping into meaningful work. The next generation is already building what comes next. What would your message to your younger self be?

The energy system is facing a new challenge: powering the rapid growth of AI and data centers while keeping the grid reliable, efficient, and resilient. At GE Vernova, we believe the answer starts with testing, learning, and improving before challenges reach the field. At our Advanced Research Center, we are using digital simulations and AI-enabled robotic inspections to help technology providers and operators delivery power more safely and efficiently, and with greater confidence. The real impact goes beyond the technology itself. Reliable power delivery helps accelerate AI and cloud innovation. AI-assisted inspection improves safety, reduces downtime, and keeps critical energy infrastructure operating at peak performance. Together, these innovations help strengthen grid stability, reduce wasted energy, and move us closer to a future where the world can depend on more sustainable, reliable, and accessible electricity.
