At PEDIATRIC ASSOCIATES OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI, LLC, back-to-school and cold-and-flu seasons can more than double monthly call volume. Families were waiting up to 15 minutes on hold. Staff were being pulled away from in-office care to cover the phones. And hiring for a temporary surge wasn’t a realistic option. Assort Health now handles that volume directly, answering calls, completing routine scheduling, and applying pediatric rules in real time, while escalating anything clinically sensitive straight to the care team. The result: ✓ Pediatric Associates of Southwest Missouri increased staff capacity by 68% and recovered an average of 45 staff hours per month. ✓ Annapolis Internal Medicine LLC reduced hold times by 75% and booked 61% of patients using voice AI instead of staff. Assort now supports 1,300+ providers across family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics, resolving 95% of patient access interactions without staff handoff. The fastest way for health systems to unlock capacity may be to better manage the demand that's already there. Patients are already trying to get care. The problem is that too much of that demand never converts into a visit. Referrals stall. Outreach goes unanswered. Scheduling rules create friction. Staff spend hours navigating exceptions manually. In a new conversation with HIMSS, Imaad R. breaks down how AI can help health systems unlock that hidden capacity by doing more than recommending the next step. The real opportunity is execution: turning a referral into an appointment, closing a care gap, reaching patients when they are actually available, and helping existing teams support more patients without adding more operational burden. For health systems under pressure to expand access with the teams they already have, that ability to do more with existing demand and capacity matters. Check out the full conversation with HIMSS:

An open appointment slot has little value if patients struggle to book it. Too often, friction sits between a patient’s first question and the right appointment: routing, referral coordination, handoffs, and follow-up. At #MGMA26, Jeffery L. will join Kemuel Carey and Michelle Yarnall, CMPE, CPC, to unpack what changes when patient access is managed as one connected operating function. For healthcare operators focused on growth, this is an important conversation. Improving access is not just about adding capacity. It is about making the path into care work. Come learn more at this session or stop by booth #746 for a demo.
Your schedules can have open capacity and patients can still struggle to get an appointment. Patient access is about more than answering calls faster. It’s the routing, referrals, handoffs, follow-up, and operational decisions that determine whether a patient gets onto the right schedule. At the 2026 MGMA Annual Conference, Assort Health’s Jeffery L. joins Kemuel Carey of TidalHealth Peninsula Orthopaedic Institute and Michelle Yarnall, CMPE, CPC of PEDIATRIC ASSOCIATES OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI, LLC to explore patient access as a growth strategy. Together, they’ll share what Assort is seeing across more than 250 million patient interactions and what it can mean to approach access as one connected operating function. Come for the data. Leave with a new way to think about patient access.

At 75 referrals a day, the Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics’ referral queue was growing faster than its team could work it. Some patients waited three to four business days for the first outreach. Follow-up attempts sometimes slipped by a week or more. Meanwhile, staff spent hours processing documents, checking insurance, and re-entering patient information. Today, CSMO: 🔹 Automates 90% of referrals from receipt through outreach and scheduling 🔹 Reaches referred patients within hours 🔹 Converts 77% of referrals into appointments On September 22 at 12 p.m. ET, join Connie Roberts, Jensine Joseph, and Assort’s Marie D'Aiuto for the first installment of The Patient Access Playbook. They’ll break down how CSMO redesigned its referral workflow, show a real referral moving from fax to booked appointment, and share what changed for patients, staff, and leadership. Implementing AI is not the same as creating value. The real work begins with identifying the operational problem, defining the outcome that matters, and measuring whether the technology improves access, capacity, patient experience, or business performance. On September 17, Imaad R. will join healthcare leaders at Digital Health New York's DHNY Summit 2026 to lead a practical masterclass on moving healthcare AI from implementation to measurable results. The real measure of healthcare AI is what changes after launch: better access, more capacity, stronger operations, and a better experience for patients.
AI implementation is accelerating across healthcare. The evidence of ROI has not kept pace. Too many healthcare organizations are choosing tools before clearly defining the operational problem, the desired outcome, or how they will measure success. On September 17, I’ll join healthcare leaders and innovators at Digital Health New York's DHNY Summit 2026 for an AI masterclass focused on four questions: • How do you align AI with a real business case? • How do you choose the right tools for the work? • Which metrics actually demonstrate value? • How do you move from implementation to measurable results? The next phase of healthcare AI will be defined less by how much gets implemented and more by whether those implementations improve outcomes the business and its patients actually care about. A healthcare AI demo can look great. The real test is whether it can handle the complexity of a health system. ➡️ Which provider sees which patient? ➡️ Which visit type applies? ➡️ What does the payer require? ➡️ Which rules are documented, and which still live in a binder or in the head of the experienced scheduler who knows how everything actually works? Today, experienced staff are left to navigate all of that complexity manually. The question is whether AI can take on that work without forcing the health system to change how it operates. In a new HIMSS TV conversation, Imaad R. explains why health system leaders should ask a simple question when evaluating AI: Can this technology handle the way my system actually works today, or do I have to redesign my operations around the technology? At Assort, that’s the test we think matters most. Watch Imaad’s conversation with HIMSS TV: https://lnkd.in/eACebcBZ
No patient should have to navigate their care alone. We’ve built a lot of ways for patients to initiate care: portals, online scheduling, chat, call centers. But in nearly every case, we still put the burden on the patient to remember what happens next, understand the rules, make the next call, schedule the follow-up, and keep the whole journey moving. There’s complexity at every step of care. But some of the biggest breakdowns happen between those steps, in the handoffs and follow-through that determine whether the next piece of care actually happens. The referral that never becomes a visit. The follow-up that never gets scheduled. The care gap nobody closes. The authorization or scheduling issue that delays the next step. I joined HIMSS TV to talk about why solving these moments requires more than another point solution, and why AI needs to understand the operational complexity behind the patient journey if we want it to meaningfully improve access. August took us from National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC)’s Community Health Institute to The OrthoForum's OrthoConnect and CAHAM - California Association of Healthcare Admissions Management, just three highlights from a much bigger month on the road. At CHI, one idea stayed with us: Community health centers should not have to choose between innovation and mission. Technology should expand access while fitting their operational and financial realities. At OrthoConnect and CAHAM, conversations focused on complex scheduling, referral backlogs, patient access, and revenue-cycle operations. In September, we’ll keep those conversations going at 20+ events. A few upcoming stops: 📍 Becker's Healthcare Health IT Conference, September 14–17, Booth 5413 📍 ASCENT (Administrator Support Community for ENT)'s Annual Conference, September 15–18, Booths 222 📍 Medical Group Management Association's Annual Conference, September 27–30, Booth 746 If you’ll be there, come say hello. Tell us what is getting in the way of patients reaching care.

A patient's path to care often begins with one phone call. If that call means 35 minutes on hold, multiple transfers, or reaching the wrong specialist, the impact goes well beyond inconvenience. Care can be delayed or abandoned altogether. In this conversation with Olivia Levine of Greenfield Partners, Assort co-founder Jeffery L. explains why we started with the most complex specialty workflows and how we're building healthcare that remembers. Our AI agents have now supported more than 250 million patient interactions across 23 specialties. The next chapter is creating the context layer that can support patients across the entire care journey. Thank you to Greenfield for featuring Assort as a past AI Disruptors 60 honoree and for continuing to spotlight the work. Watch the conversation: https://lnkd.in/e-rsJH94
Jeffery L. co-founded Assort Health to fix the front door of healthcare, the phone call that decides whether a patient gets seen. He talks to Olivia Levine about owning the context layer, and why the hardest specialties came first.

Every patient has experienced it: repeating the same information, waiting for a referral to turn into an appointment, or trying to keep track of what comes next. Assort Health was built to change that. The San Francisco Business Times recently visited our new San Francisco headquarters and spent time with co-CEOs Jon Wang and Jeffery L., SVP of People Emil Yeargin, and CRO Jon Corn. They talked about the company’s growth and the vision behind it. In the past 16 months, revenue has grown 20x, and the team has nearly tripled in size. That growth reflects what we are hearing from healthcare organizations across the country: patient access needs to work better. As we scale, the vision remains the same: using AI to remove administrative friction, make it easier for patients to access care, give clinical teams more time to connect with people, and, as Jon put it, “bring more humanity back into healthcare.” Thank you to Hannah Kanik for spending time with our team and telling the story.
