A fellow VC said something to me recently that stopped me cold: “There’s no portfolio loss I haven’t seen coming except for founder burnout.” 🤯 Last week in El Salvador, at our 3rd annual Flying With Founders Retreat - I watched a group of founders do something most never slow down long enough to do. They invested in themselves. Not just calendar space. Not just time away from their teams. But presence! They stepped out of the chaos of startup life—and into deep work: ➡️ self-awareness ➡️ personal development ➡️ leadership growth ➡️ honest reflection on who they’re becoming while scaling their companies and teams Here’s the truth most startup and VC culture doesn’t say out loud: You can’t out-execute personal misalignment. You can’t scale clarity you haven’t built internally. And no exit is truly healthy if the founder is burned out, numb, or disconnected from their purpose. These founders didn’t come to El Salvador to escape. They came to confront—patterns, blind spots, self-sabotage, and the quiet questions that only surface when you finally stop to be still. This is where real leadership is forged. If you’re a founder reading this, consider this your nudge: The best ROI you’ll ever make isn’t another hire, tool, or growth hack. It’s the moment you decide to invest time and money into who you are becoming—not just what you’re building. That decision changes everything 🚀 Feeling a little vulnerable? I’m curious—what do you know you need to work on this year, but haven’t made space for yet? #HealthyFoundersHealthyExits #venturecapital #founderwellness Washington Avenue Advisors Exit Quotient Ventures Achsha Jones Harry Charles Williams Evan Winters Meegan Winters Joshua Coombs Victoria Levinsohn Seth Killian Kaben Clauson Tim Moore Startup Grind Lansing Flying With Founders

We ended our last event for 2025 last night with Open Pitch Night, and what a great success it was! The night started with a happy hour with some holiday tunes and then 10 people got up in front of the crowd and got 3 minutes to pitch what they have been working on, answer questions, and receive feedback. Missed this one? Don’t worry, we will be having more in 2026! SparkHaus Connetic Ventures

I have a problem with team building events. Real teamwork is built — or eroded — one conversation at a time. And who are the people having the most conversations? Managers. But managers (according to Gallup's most recent State of the Workplace) are the LEAST engaged cohort of all employees 😱 That's why I don't like team building events. They're a bandaid. Ironically, while they're meant to build human connection, they are so anti-human-understanding when they're slapped on a team that has unacknowledged dysfunction. Managers need real help, not a few hours of forced fun. This topic is too big for a quick post, so check out the full article covering: 🏋️♂️ the weight we put on managers 🤷♂️ why so many solutions aren't able to help them 💡 what AI is making possible today to bring true transformation. (confession, I can't wait for our upcoming All Team with a super fun surprise team fun outing!! I will giggle so much. So Team building is actually great, my aversion is the toxic danger of treating it like a cure.)

The IHEXP Edge is the undeniable proof that real-world experience cultivated in high school directly translates into superior opportunity and achievement from the moment our students step onto a college campus. They don't just aspire to compete—they arrive ready to lead. This week, we are proud to feature Enguerrand Bonniol, INDIAN HILL EXEMPTED VILLAGE SCHOOL DISTRICT Class of 2025, who is already demonstrating his unique preparedness as part of the University of Chicago Class of 2029. Enguerrand's success is rooted in the practical, real-world finance experience he gained before college. During his high school career, he completed an internship at Connetic Ventures, a leading venture capital firm. This high-level experience was crucial in developing the professional skills that allowed Enguerrand to hit the ground running at UChicago. The opportunity forced him to grow fast, giving him a sophisticated understanding of financial concepts and business communication that set him apart. Even basic but essential skills, such as learning how to cold-email and network effectively with professionals, were honed during his internship and have proven invaluable in reaching out to employers and maximizing opportunities in college. Enguerrand’s experience at Connetic Ventures is a perfect example of the IHEXP Edge in action. His readiness to apply real-world skills—from networking to finance fundamentals—allowed him to make an immediate impact at UChicago. We look forward to watching him lead and succeed throughout his impressive undergraduate journey!

We're live on CBS! Think of Kartel.ai as "Palantir for the Creative Suite". We build custom generative systems for all kinds of companies. We use forward deployed engineering to map brand pipelines, then structure, clean, and organize ALL the brand assets as data. With good (and comprehensive) data in, we build incredibly powerful and complex systems to unlock creativity at scale, and solve for real brand problems. For instance, teams now have the ability to: - Produce 100% accurate brand assets in a fraction of the time - Use that superpower to optimize and hyper-localize media, boosting conversion rates - Turn concepts or product sketches or renders into reality - Or in the case of CBS, build a fun commercial in a few days! We're building bespoke engines across sectors... from Fortune 500s, to agencies and e-commerce. Reach out if you'd like to see what Kartel can unlock for your business.
