Scunthorpe United have signed forward James Norwood and midfielder Dan Batty on short-term deals.

Norwood, 36, spent last season in League Two with Fleetwood Town, for whom he scored six times in 24 appearances, while Batty was part of York City's National League title-winning squad.

Norwood played in the Oldham Athletic side in 2025 that won promotion to the English Football League, scoring one of the Latics' goals in their promotion final win over Southend United at Wembley.

During a career in which he has scored more than 200 goals, he counts Ipswich Town, Barnsley, Tranmere Rovers and Exeter City among his previous clubs.

Batty, 28, played over 100 games in a three-year spell with York before he was released following the Minstermen's promotion.

Halifax Town have signed midfielder Tommy McDermott on a deal until the end of the season.

McDermott, 21, was a free agent after being released by Burnley in the summer.

He had spent last season on loan in League Two with Shrewsbury Town, for whom he played in 41 games and scored three times, while he had made two appearances in cup competitions for the Clarets in the previous campaign.

Gateshead have signed midfielder Alfie McCalmont on a deal until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old started his career at Leeds United and was a free agent after leaving Central Coast Mariners in July.

He could make his debut for the Heed, who are bottom of the National League with four points from eight games, against Wealdstone on Saturday.

"He's a very, very, very good footballer technically - he'll definitely add quality to the group," boss Lee Cattermole told the club website., external

Hornchurch have signed midfielder Alfie Massey on loan from Millwall until 3 January.

The 20-year-old has previously had loan spells with Wealdstone and Southend United and came through Millwall's academy before signing his first professional contract with the Championship club.

Massey made his Lions debut in a 1-0 Carabao Cup win at Portsmouth in August 2024.

Hornchurch manager Daryl McMahon said Massey would add "quality in midfield with a good passing range", while also describing him as a "tenacious player".

Worthing have signed forward Dominic Johnson-Fisher from Truro City for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old broke into the Truro first team in 2023-24 and has scored 10 goals in 93 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Johnson-Fisher helped Truro win promotion to the National League in the 2024-25 campaign before they were immediately relegated back to National League South last season.

Worthing are 11th in the National League, one point outside the play-off spots, and host Halifax Town in their next game on Saturday.
