Weekly round-up: Five stories you may have missed

Only Fools and Horses, The Hairy Bikers, and The Silence of the Lambs all crop up in the most popular stories in the South this week.

The first Islander aircraft to be built on the Isle of Wight in decades has completed its maiden flight.

For more than 50 years, the Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander was predominantly manufactured in Romania and finished in Bembridge.

But in 2023 production returned to the island, with staff growing from 100 to 180.

The new aircraft, which flew on Thursday, will be painted in the colours of the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS) before being flown to the South Atlantic to serve as a transport link.

Self-driving robots could soon be delivering groceries across three coastal towns.

The autonomous electric vehicles would be used in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole as part of a new pilot scheme outlined in BCP Council's latest transport plan, with a target delivery date of 2031.

They have been described as "tiny fridges on wheels" and are already in operation in several other parts of the UK.

Andy Hadley, the council's cabinet member for climate response, environment and energy, said the authority was in talks with a company and that people in the area could expect to see the robots "within the next year or so".

A giant moth made famous by the film poster for Silence of the Lambs has been found in a school compost bin.

The African death's-head hawkmoth was discovered in a nature area at Wicor Primary School in Portchester, Hampshire.

Native to southern Europe and Africa, the moth has a wingspan of up to 14cm and a distinctive skull-like marking on the back of its head.

The species is rarely seen in the UK and the school's horticulturalist Louise Moreton said it was a "once-in-a-lifetime" chance for the children and staff to see it.

An eclectic collection of items that belonged to the Hairy Biker Dave Myers have been sold for about £19,000 at an auction.

Myers, who died aged 66 from cancer in 2024, was most famed for travelling the world as one half of the cooking double act alongside friend Si King.

Of just over 300 items, about a third remained unsold at Newbury's Special Auction Services, including leather shoes that he wore during his appearances on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013.

Myers' widow, Liliana, said the couple had "collected so much" together, having met in 2005 and married six years later.

A 10-year-old boy is living his very own Del Boy dream after his parents surprised him with a 1975 Reliant Super Robin.

Toby, from west Oxfordshire, has always been infatuated with the iconic three-wheeler - even making his own Lego model of the car.

After spotting a turquoise Reliant up for auction earlier this year, his dad Steve secretly purchased the classic British car that was made famous by the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

"Most of my friends want Bugattis, Ferraris and Lamborghinis as their dream car - and this is mine," Toby said.
