What makes a good news tip or story idea?
The Boston Globe newsroom wants to hear from you. You can share breaking news, feature story ideas, feedback on our work, suggestions for potential sources, and other insights with Globe journalists via email, social media or other platforms. These stories should be impactful, entertaining, unique, revealing, and relevant to a large audience.
In short, tell us what is happening and why you think it matters. Tell us who you think we should talk to about important issues.
You don’t need to write like a journalist. Just tell us what you know.
The most helpful tips include:
What happened?
When and where did it happen?
Who is affected?
Why is it important?
Is this part of a larger issue or trend?
Do you have documents, photos, videos, emails, or other information that could help us verify what happened?
Are there other people we should talk to?
Don’t worry if you don’t know all of the answers. Even a small tip can help start our reporting.
Finding the Right Newsroom Team
The Globe is organized into reporting teams, each led by an editor. Reporters on each team often specialize in different subjects. If you know which team best matches your topic, you can use this guide to contact them directly.
Spotlight - Investigates corruption, abuse of power, public safety failures, and other issues of significant public interest.
Metro - Reports on Greater Boston, including local government, transportation, K-12 and higher education, health, crime and justice, inequality, breaking news, and general issues affecting communities across the region.
Politics - Covers Massachusetts government, elections, campaigns, public policy, and national politics.
Express - Reports on breaking news and viral news affecting communities across the region.
Business - Covers companies, technology, the business of health care, housing, jobs, labor, media, and the economy.
Sports - Reports on New England’s professional and college teams, high school sports, and major sporting events.
Living / Arts - Covers visual and fine arts, movies, theater, pop culture, food, restaurants, entertainment, television, books, parenting, travel, and cultural trends.
Rhode Island - Reports on government and general issues affecting communities across the state.
New Hampshire - Covers government and general issues affecting communities across the state.
Magazine - Covers entertainment, long features, and other issues affecting communities across the region.
Photo and Video - Drives visual stories about communities across the region.
StoryLab - Team that uses data, code, and design to produce interactive storytelling, useful tools, and trackers about local and national issues.

If you’re concerned about your privacy, you have options. When appropriate, the Globe can agree to keep a source’s identity confidential.
What happens after I contact you?
Every news tip and story idea submitted to the Globe is reviewed by our newsroom.
Because we receive many submissions, we can’t respond to everyone or pursue every story. We evaluate each tip based on its newsworthiness, whether we can verify the information, and whether it can be reported thoroughly and fairly.
Even if you don’t hear back, your information may help inform future reporting or contribute to a larger investigation.
