Mike Damiano

Mike Damiano is a higher education reporter with the Boston Globe. He joined the newsroom in 2022 after six years as a contributing editor with Boston Magazine.

At the Globe, he has covered the turmoil roiling elite universities since 2023, including the campus controversies following the Oct. 7 attack on Israel and the Trump administration’s pressure campaign against Harvard. He has also covered immigration, state government, and scientific research. He has shared two awards from the National Association of Black Journalists, including one for a retrospective on the legacy of busing in Boston’s public schools.

At Boston Magazine, he wrote features, profiles, and investigations on topics ranging from the development of the Wynn Resorts casino in Everett to the attempted murder of David Ortiz. He won awards from the National City and Regional Magazine Association for civic journalism, feature writing, and reporting. Earlier in his career, he covered business and economics in Latin America. He is the author of “Porque la vida no basta,” a 2012 book about the contemporary Spanish painter Miquel Barceló. He speaks Spanish and French.

Damiano graduated with honors from Georgetown University.
