Tamsin Tilley shared thisI am not a calm person. I’m not naturally one of those cool, calm and collected people. Something goes wrong and my internal process is usually: - Panic. - Overthink every possible outcome. - Have a word with myself. - Work out what actually needs to happen. - Get on with it. Which is interesting when you work in implementation. Because implementation often requires you to be a bit like a swan above water and a duck underneath. For the client, you want things to feel calm, clear and under control. Meanwhile, below the surface, you might be frantically paddling through: → unexpected technical issues → messy data → shifting timelines → dependencies you can't control → approximately 38 tabs open trying to find the answer 😅 For a long time, I thought being good at my job meant becoming the person who doesn't panic. I'm starting to realise that's not really the goal. You don't have to be naturally calm to be capable. You can feel stressed, overwhelmed or completely out of your comfort zone and still take a minute, regroup and figure out what comes next. Still working on the swan part. The frantic paddling underneath? I've absolutely nailed that 🦆 #keepcalmandcarryon #implementationtruths

Tamsin Tilley shared thisThings clients have said during a CRM migration that genuinely keep me awake at night: “What is warming?” “Can we go live by Friday?” “List cleaning is just removing unsubscribes and bounces… right?” Working in omnichannel onboarding means living in the space between strategy, chaos, deliverability, and someone accidentally emailing 400k people at 4pm on a Thursday (I wish I was joking). But honestly… that’s also what makes it fun. There’s something weirdly satisfying about taking a messy lifecycle setup and turning it into something smarter, cleaner, and actually customer-first. Tamsin Tilley shared thisTurns out, the scary thing wasn't standing on stage... it was everything I imagined beforehand. A month ago, I shared that I was about to moderate sessions on stage at Thread London... despite public speaking being something that has always made me incredibly nervous. Well... I survived. 😅 Was I completely calm? Absolutely not. Did I replay every question in my head about 47 times beforehand? Also yes. But once the conversations got going, instead of worrying about "Am I saying the right thing?", I found myself focused on bringing out the best insights from the incredible people on stage. And there were plenty of those. Three ideas that have stuck with me since Thread: 💬 The brands creating the best customer experiences aren't trying to be everywhere, they're making every channel work together with purpose. 🤖 AI came up in almost every conversation, but not as a replacement for marketers. The real opportunity is using it to free up time for better strategy, creativity and customer experiences. 💡 The biggest opportunities often come from being willing to try something that feels slightly uncomfortable—whether that's testing a new marketing approach... or saying yes to moderating a stage when public speaking has always terrified you. I'm really grateful to everyone who shared their experiences on stage (huge shout out again to the speakers from my panel, Holly Jackson, Katy Walker, and Miguel Almeida), and to the Attentive team for trusting me to moderate the conversations. Safe to say... saying yes to things that scare you is still terrifying. It's just usually worth it.

Tamsin Tilley shared thisThis little girl used to have horrendous stage fright 😅 Like, avoiding presentations at school, rehearsing sentences in my head before speaking, and genuinely hoping nobody would call on me in class. So the fact that I’m now going to be moderating conversations on stage at Thread London next month (ah!) feels a little surreal. And honestly? Younger me would be VERY confused by this career path in general. Working in tech. Speaking publicly. Talking about CRM, email, SMS and omnichannel marketing for a living… None of this was remotely on my radar growing up (RIP my childhood dream to be a vet). I think one of the strangest parts of career growth is realising confidence doesn’t usually appear overnight. You just slowly do the scary thing enough times that it becomes normal. Am I still nervous? Yep. Am I still overthinking it? Most definitely. But I'm really excited to be part of some amazing conversations at Thread. Tamsin Tilley shared thisNo one talks about how humbling starting a new job is… it’s just a lot of “I’m excited to announce!”. But one minute you’re confident, experienced, thriving… The next you’re like: “Where is Slack?” “Why can’t I log into my Okta?” “Where do I sit??” “Are those my colleagues? They look so different outside of Zoom” Month 1 of a new job is basically: → pretending you understand acronyms → re-reading messages 3 times before replying → saying “makes sense!” when it absolutely does not make sense And don’t even get me started on: Joining a new office 😅 Trying to figure out: • where to sit • when people take lunch • if you’re allowed to just… get up and grab an iced coffee from the nearest cafe But honestly? It’s also where the growth happens. Every new role I’ve taken in tech has come with that same feeling: “I have no idea what I’m doing… yet.” And then slowly: You learn You ask questions You figure it out And one day… you’re the person onboarding someone else. If you’re in that “new job discomfort” phase right now: You’re not behind, you’re just early So a huge 'THANK YOU’ to everyone at Attentive for making me feel so welcome, fattening me up with endless snacks, and putting up with my constant questions! Never mind that I haven't set foot in a classroom in years - my brain never quite got the memo. Every September it does the same thing: summer ends, and suddenly I'm "new term, new me”. If I'm honest, a lot of my goals and priorities quietly went on the back burner this summer in favour of sun, Aperols and doing absolutely nothing productive after 6pm. And now autumn's here, there's a real pull towards a "winter arc," overcorrecting by optimising every hour of the day. Hard pass. I've decided that instead of overhauling my entire life and then feeling guilty when I inevitably miss the 5am pilates class, or never quite get round to reading ‘War & Peace’ that's been on my shelf for years, I'm going to let the small, steady stuff count instead. So whilst my autumns still mean new things - new pencil case has become new Salesforce reports, new teachers have become new people to call, and new Clarks school shoes have become... still new shoes, just bought with my own money now (eurgh) - I'm choosing not to guilt myself into becoming some "better" version of me by December

I really enjoyed sharing the stage with Jack Pattni, a brilliant co-speaker and a good friend, as we explored how brands can make the most of Cyber Week traffic. A few themes stood out: Cyber Week is becoming Cyber Season. The strongest brands start building their audiences and creating demand well before Black Friday. Value is about more than discount depth. Early access, free shipping, product recommendations, and relevant reminders can all influence the decision to buy. And the best results come from connecting audience growth, campaigns, and automated journeys into one consistent customer experience. (Oh, and another important takeaway... now I know my colour palette is 'Summer' 🤣 ) A huge thank you to everyone who joined, shared their experiences, and made the conversation so engaging. On Tuesday, Attentive hosted The Edit at @ Shoreditch House sponsored by Triple Whale - where we pretended like Summer hasn't come to an end! Of course.. it did not disappoint. Hearing from some of our amazing customers at NADINE MERABI, Fenty Beauty, WONDERSKIN about their strategies, goals, expectations and how to keep (somewhat) calm during Q4 chaos. We also heard from our wonderful Junel Oberholzer, Jack Pattni, Gemma W. and Liam Jacques - who never fail to keep the good vibes going. It was great, as usual, being able to meet so many brands in person, including those I have the pleasure of working with day to day having 1:1 BFCM strategy sessions (and some chit chat sessions too). So lucky to work with such fantastic people everyday, and even luckier to call an afternoon like this work. Huge shoutout to the GOAT - Chantelle T. who never ceases to amaze me with every event she executes! 🐐 Also, apparently my colour palette is Autumn, which is perfect because I only wear black/white, which are my #1 worst matches, can't wait to use this as an excuse for a new wardrobe. Thank you to Colour Conviction for your service 🫶🙏 Looking forward to Q4, and the BFCM deals I’ll be using to pay for my new palette.

I may be slightly biased, but the Attentive chat with Calla Ltd was one of the highlights for me - hearing Holly Gaffney talk about her journey with the team and the passion behind the brand and its customers was brilliant. As a proud owner of every single Refy product, I also loved hearing from Jenna Meek. Her take on getting to where they are today by staying true to the “Refy World” rather than chasing every trend was refreshing. Grateful to be part of it and to hear from so many amazing brands and partners!
