I’m an accountant but I didn’t do advanced maths or an accountancy degree. I’ve never worked for big 4. I did do a business degree. I started ACA and then decided to switch to CIMA. I worked in practice then industry. I’ve worked in 4 industries not specialised in one. Accountancy is often sold like a perfect little package. But there are lots of ways to become an accountant.

Volunteer Spotlight: Daniel Bradley, APM East of England Network Lead We're delighted to launch our new East of England Network Volunteer Spotlight series by introducing our Network Lead, Daniel Bradley, Senior Project Manager at CB&I. When asked why he enjoys being part of the APM community, Daniel highlighted the value of connecting with fellow project professionals and learning from one another's experiences: ❓ Why do you enjoy being part of this community? "I have to because I'm the lead! 😄 In all seriousness though, it is a great community, and the best part is meeting new people at the network events. It never fails to amaze me how many of the problems we face as project professionals are shared across different industries and sectors, and you never know, you may be sitting next to someone who has had a similar experience or even has the solution. It's great to meet people who are starting out in their career and are hungry for knowledge, or those who are time-served and willing to share those golden nuggets of project management wisdom." ❓ What do you see as some of the biggest opportunities or challenges facing the project profession in the East of England? "The East of England has some amazing projects in the pipeline across all sectors, including The Great Grid Upgrade, Sizewell B and C, solar, wind, data centres, gas, water and transport. If these projects are going to be successful, we need competent project management professionals to deliver them, hopefully on time, budget and to the requisite quality. Given we have an ageing workforce, finding enough people is going to be a challenge alongside ensuring they're competent to do the job. We need project professionals at all levels of experience and across the specialisms to make this a success."   ❓ Which upcoming Network activities or opportunities are you most looking forward to? "We've got some great ideas in the pipeline. I'm really excited about the AI and emerging professional events we're discussing with the committee. More to follow on this and hopefully we'll be able to share our proposed timeline of events in Q4." Daniel is particularly excited about the future of project management in our region. With major infrastructure, energy, transport, and digital projects planned across the East of England, there are fantastic opportunities for project professionals at all levels to make an impact. He's also looking forward to some exciting upcoming Network initiatives, including events focused on AI, emerging professionals, and the future of project delivery. Watch this space! As it’s coming up to my work anniversary with Shell, it’s been a fantastic15 years and has now topped the 15 years with the Royal Air Force (RAF), the date of the 29th August has always been meant something to me, the date I joined the RAF, the date I joined Shell and the date my best friend in the world was born (Stanley, my Lakeland Terrier), with me having see Stanley fly high yesterday after 17 years of love and joy, it’s given me time to think about what is important to us all and family is the most important, making sure I came home and enduring others came home safe is paramount to not only your two legged family but your four legged family as well
