Gemma Bloemen reposted thisGemma Bloemen reposted thisAI has changed the shape of the network behind it, and physical fibre connectors have become the main bottleneck in scaling it up. Mixx Technologies Inc has launched the SxC™ Connector: a wafer-fabricated optical connector, replacing copper with light inside AI systems, that handles four times the fibre density of current standards. What previously needed a four-rack-unit enclosure now fits in one, reducing latency, lower power consumption and less hardware complexity in the data centre. Vivek R. Raghuraman and Rebecca Schaevitz know this system from the inside, and they're solving connectivity once instead of four times over. Demonstrated live at SEMICON Taiwan, this is a real breakthrough in one of the hardest constraints on AI compute. Mixx is exactly the kind of company we back in Electrification and Compute: AI runs on power, and it runs on the physical infrastructure moving signal through the data centre. #CPO #CoPackagedOptics #AIInfrastructure #OpticalInterconnect #SiliconPhotonics #PhysicalEconomy

Gemma Bloemen shared thisWe at Systemiq Capital are thrilled to lead eComID’s $17m seed round. As an investor, the absolute best days are those when you meet a founder who absolutely blows you away. From the first minute I met Oscar Rundqvist I was inspired by his vision for a more personalized and less wasteful e-commerce and his tireless efforts to transform the way brands operated. This initial impression only grew stronger as we met the rest of the founding team and dug into the business performance. It’s a great privilege to partner with this phenomenal team to transform how brands do e-commerce. Let’s go 💪🏻🚀🔥Gemma Bloemen shared thisBig news today! 🚀 eComID has raised a $17M seed round to build the Shopping Passport for the future of commerce. Today, we’re announcing eComID’s $17M seed round, led by Systemiq Capital, with participation from Regeneration.VC, Course Corrected, Stadium and returning investor CapitalT. H&M Group Ventures remains a strategic investor. AI is transforming how people shop. But even the smartest shopping experiences still start with almost no context about the person on the other side of the screen. We’re building the missing layer. eComID’s Shopping Passport lets shoppers carry relevant context such as size & fit, taste and shopper preferences across connected brands. Vera, our AI shopping agent, uses that context to power better sizing, conversational search and personal product discovery. Since launching: • 60+ brands • 20 million shoppers every month • 30% lower return rate for shoppers using eComID • 10% higher conversion rate for brands With this round, eComID takes the next step toward making the Shopping Passport a global standard for personalized commerce, and making online shopping feel less like guesswork. We’re incredibly grateful to our customers, investors and team for building this with us and for being part of what comes next. Shop like every store already knows you. Your size. Your taste. Your eComID. Read more: ecomid.com/blog/seed-round

Gemma Bloemen shared thisSoftware already transformed the consumer world: enabling car hailing, food delivery, booking a stranger's spare room and arranging social care from your device. I was fortunate to help drive this shift as an operator at Uber in the early days and at Elder. The industrial world mostly stayed put. Software could book you a ride, but it couldn't fundamentally change how a factory line, a power grid or a construction site actually worked. AI changes that, and I think the next decade belongs to the physical industries software never reached. This is what gets me excited to start work every morning. At Systemiq Capital we back audacious founders transforming the physical economy in systems we understand deeply: across Electrification, Advanced Compute, Decoding Nature and Applied AI. We invest at late Seed, Series A and Early B across Europe and the US. I lead our Applied AI thesis. AI is a broad term, so here are the areas and some of the example themes I am looking at: 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 - Making factories produce more without new floor space - Compressing engineering and simulation cycles from weeks to hours - Augmenting and enabling scarce labour in critical roles such as electricians - Cutting waste across supply chains, the built environment and ecommerce 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 - Improved earth observation and geospatial - Pricing climate risk before it hits the balance sheet - Reading energy markets and the grid in real time 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 - Reshoring clean supply chains and other critical industries - Catching wildfires and floods before they spread - Helping the built world adapt to climate change - Cybersecurity for energy and critical infrastructure The companies that win in the physical world tend to look different from pure software: - Around half the companies we back have a hardware component; sensors to gather data, bespoke hardware with a software layer on top, or fully embedded robotics. We don't do first-of-a-kind or early science, but we're not afraid of hardware and rather see it as an important moat. - Security and trust are non negotiable, so many of the solutions in this space run on-prem, which demands different architecture and compute, itself a layer we're keen to back. - Physical AI companies don't ship a tool. They more often build the operating system, take over part of the organisation, and own the output. Building at the intersection of AI and the physical world? Let's chat.Gemma Bloemen shared thisJuly brought two incredible changes to our investment team, and we couldn’t be prouder to finally share them: Jasper Wigley has been promoted to Principal. Jasper has built our Compute investment thesis from scratch and turned it into one of the most active theses in the firm, backing Mixx Technologies Inc and Claros earlier this year and continuing to build an incredible deal momentum. Gemma Bloemen has officially joined the investment team full time to lead our Applied AI thesis, six months after joining on as Venture Partner. Her experience, network, and ability to work with founders have already made her a huge asset to the team, and we can't wait to see the Applied AI thesis take shape under her lead. Both of these changes reflect the hard work of the past few months and our long term commitment to investing in our people. Full story on our website in the comments. 👇

Gemma Bloemen reposted thisGemma Bloemen reposted thisEvery robotics demo looks the same now: laundry folded, dishes stacked, backflips landed. Deployment tells a different story, and the gap between the two isn't really about better robots, but about four separate gaps that simulation alone can't close: what a camera sees versus what a simulator renders, how objects actually behave on contact, what a scene means in context, and the long tail of edge cases no one thought to simulate. In her latest article, Sie Yin Poh goes deep on what it actually takes to close the sim-to-real gap in industrial robotics, and why the learning loop, not the demo, is what separates companies built for deployment from companies built for a stage. European industry pays roughly twice what American industry pays for energy. The one energy source this continent can produce at scale, on its own soil, is clean electricity, and building our economy around it is the only lasting way out. That shift will take new technologies, business models and partnerships. Many of them are being built right now by early-stage founders. Fortum is one of Europe's leading energy companies, with core operations in low-carbon power generation, customer services, and heating and cooling, and more than two million customers. What this partnership gives our founders is real operational knowledge of how energy is generated, moved and sold, from people who have been doing it for decades. We are actively deploying. If you're a founder building in energy, I want to hear from you. ⭐️ Excited to partner with you Fortum Innovation & Venturing!

Gemma Bloemen liked thisGemma Bloemen liked thisLast Wednesday , we hosted an informal private dinner during HumanX with Pim de Witte, CEO of General Intuition. The theme of the evening was AI for Good: what it actually looks like to point models at a problem with pure upside for humanity. As guest speaker Pim invited Lara Lessing, Executive Director of Free a Girl in the US. They fight the trafficking and exploitation of children through undercover operations and technology, and have brought nearly 10,000 children to safety. Their teams use AI to trace children online across the web. Lara gave a talk on the work, where the technology is heading next, and her 'request for startups' to help non-profit organizations like theirs run faster, more efficient and self sufficient. This dinner was unlike any other AI dinners I've attended. Given the topic it was real, raw and it felt so good to have in-depth conversations about the real problems society is coping with today and what we can do about it. Big thank you to team General Intuition and everyone who joined us for the good company and conversations. Lara Lessing - you and your team rock. 🖤

Gemma Bloemen liked thisGemma Bloemen liked thisAbout three years ago we at Power2X started asking a question that, at the time, sounded slightly crazy: could Europe produce synthetic aviation fuel at industrial scale, despite its relatively high renewable power costs and congested grids, to decarbonise aviation? In our market scan, we then found the methanol-to-jet route. This route, despite not yet being approved at the time (now it is), seemed to offer the best of both worlds for our Rotterdam ambition: the ability to "import the power" from lower-cost regions, the ability to build a plant at a much larger scale because it no longer depends on local power and grids, and a built-in lower risk profile given the easy-to-store intermediate product. This means no dependency on renewable power profiles and, most of all, the ability to create lower costs through scale. And the market is here, and will stay. Aviation isn't going away, it's one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise, and eSAF offers a truly new alternative to oil. Bio-based SAF alone can't cover long-term demand. And the choice for Rotterdam was and remains clear: a global energy and chemicals hub, deep infrastructure, and direct proximity to the biggest aviation markets in Northwest Europe. We are not starting from new but building into an existing ecosystem. Our partner Advario acquired a unique plot of 26 hectares of land in the heart of the Botlek in the Port of Rotterdam. Together with them, we agreed to turn this location, the former Aluchemie site, into one of the first industrial-scale eSAF projects in Europe, to make a step change in our future fuel supply. The journey so far has been exciting, challenging, but also very promising. We are moving ahead together with a fast-growing network of partners, with close support from local stakeholders. If built, the project can give a boost to our European industry and our economy, create jobs, add energy resilience and, of course, contribute to reducing our climate impact. Over the coming months I'll be sharing our journey in public: what works, what's hard, and what it actually takes to build a new clean-molecules industry in Europe. Not only one project, but a new industry. This is post one. #eSAF #SustainableAviationFuel #EnergyTransition #EuropeanCompetitiveness

Gemma Bloemen liked thisGemma Bloemen liked thisImpact Flock is always one of my favourite events of the year and last week delivered on that yet again, as we brought together 140+ VCs and LPs to talk all things impact 🚀 This event is a bit different: It's about filling the room with folk finding the frontier of impact in venture, learning from both success and failure, and sparking practical actions we can each take forward. The day is almost entirely workshops and breakouts: all about open discussion, learning, and hearing from each other rather than listening to speakers on a stage. We did allow ourselves one fireside this year, with the fantastic Clara Barby and Henry Dimbleby, who set the tone for the day wonderfully. Our theme this year was 'making systems change practical' - as it's increasingly clear that we need to think systemically about the major challenges facing us today, but it can be unclear what that means in practice. Some of my takeaways: 🛠️ Terminology like "systems change" can be abstract, but really comes alive when you break it down into tools and actions folk can take. From finding bottlenecks and thinking across different time horizons, to tinkering with incentives and embedding practices to really listen to the folk in the system you're trying to change - it doesn't need to take months of introspection to get started. 📉📈 Some of the thorny issues we got into through day on the energy transition, AI in labour markets, and the underlying tech rails we're building all of this on top of have both terrifying downsides and phenomenal upside. Getting the next few years right will be complex but feels absolutely critical. It seems to me that impact-minded, high-integrity investing in these technologies is an increasingly important part of that. 🏛️ Capital flows in venture are in an odd place right now, but there really is LP interest in impact themes in venture capital. This year we had 50+ LPs in the room - twice as many as last year. With my own LP hat on for a second, speaking to other LPs: the capital we are putting to work has the potential to tilt our financial and societal systems, if we start to focus on the places where our portfolios can be more than the sum of their parts. I want to share a HUGE thank you to the folk who made this possible at Sustainable Ventures (Stuart Ferguson+ Charlotte Clift) and Mozilla + Mozilla Ventures ( Mohamed Nanabhay, @Saayeli Mukherji Bruni, Adam Mullinax) - as well as our fantastic partners through the year at Rothschild & Co (Richard Brass), Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP ( Oliver Rochman), and Sage (Marvin Fletcher Rogers, Jordan Arnold) And finally, to the team that made this happen for a FOURTH time: a joy as always Inès, Anna and the Impact Europe team - and of course Ellie Broad, Hayley Hand and all the ImpactVC and Better Society Capital folk who brought this to life 💫 #impact #venture #startups

Gemma Bloemen liked thisGemma Bloemen liked thisGlen Gowers and Oliver Vince realized early that we needed an internet of biology to train ai to understand biology. They saw that this already existed in nature, and so they started Basecamp Research to decode biodiversity on an epic scale. They now have the world's largest and most diverse database of proteins containing over 100 billion novel genes, all found in nature. And their proprietary EDEN models have already delivered some remarkable world firsts. Basecamp Research's database is n of 1. But I think what's often overlooked is that this would not exist without the most basic of human currency - trust. This team has been uniquely skilled at building trust in so many different countries and contexts. It's because of who they are (if you've met Glen and Oliver, you'll know why) and who they've brought into the company to lead on this, like Bupe Mwambingu and Emma Bolton. And because Basecamp Research's mission is one you just have to be a part of - to solve previously incurable diseases by unlocking biodiversity's immense and evolving repository of information. And do this in a way that biodiverse countries will receive $$$ by developing their genetic assets. Building a database like this is something that cannot be done by just throwing money at the wall. The team have built some very deep foundations here. When we lead the Series A in 2022 much of this was a dream but Glen and Oliver's hunger, focus and understanding of what it takes to build long-term trust in difficult places blew us away. If I think about the ways ai could be totally transformative in a positive way for human society, Basecamp Research is hard to beat - previously incurable diseases solved and a new way to value biodiversity. Absolutely thrilled for the team on their $140m Series C, led by Andy Conrad at S32. We're beyond excited for this next stage! (mega fist bump this morning with Rohit Sharma at True Ventures in Palo Alto. Rohit led Basecamp Research's seed, and also led the seed of Enveda, who announced a huge $311m series E today. Partnership Capital, for me, is about working with owners who want to stay firmly in control but value having a committed partner alongside them. The most rewarding part of my role is seeing how thoughtful capital, experienced voices around the table and practical help with things like senior hires or expansion enable already strong teams to pursue bigger, bolder plans. The stories in this film bring that to life: owners staying in control, using us as a minority partner to help them tackle specific challenges and grow their businesses in a way that still feels true to them.

3 years ago, we launched The UK's ScaleUp Investment Platform to help more ambitious founding teams raise Series A-B on good terms, with less distraction to running their business. 2 years ago we started collating venture data, and invited private and public sector stakeholders to collaborate to improve conditions for success, becoming The UK ScaleUp Investment Mission. Supported by 100 key organisations from across the ecosystem, and £13bn of VCs. This week we published The UK ScaleUp Investment Report 2026, detailing at-a-glance summary of both the successes and as yet unrealised opportunities for the ecosystem to support more scaleups to grow with venture-backing. The report (with 26 contributors, and hundreds of hours of research, founder and VC surveying, preparatory meetings), shows that in 2025: → Over £17bn was invested into innovative UK companies → Yet less than 600 raised Series A or B funding (£3.5bn) → Just 7% of seed-funded startups progressed to institutional scaleup capital This demonstrates there are still missing rungs on the funding ladder. The UK ScaleUp Investment Report 2026 is well worth a read, by scaling founders, VCs, ecosystem and Government. Its a data-led assessment of the UK’s scaleup investment landscape, combining: → 2025 venture data analysis → Founder and investor sentiment insights → Founders’ view of policy changes across government and public finance initiatives → Alternative funding options → Ecosystem ambitions for the year ahead The conclusion is clear: capital exists. Ambition exists. But access, coordination and investment readiness remain structural challenges. If we are serious about creating more UK venture-backed scaleup successes, we must move beyond fragmented support and lean into what we call ‘venture collaboration’ - public and private sector working together with shared objectives to help more companies scale with investment. The UK ScaleUp Investment Report was launched at VenturePath’s first annual UK ScaleUp Investment Summit, joined by Minister McDougall, Minister for Small Business & Economic Transformation. Read the full report in the comments below. Collectively, we can create more venture-backed UK scaleup successes. The hardest part of fundraising is rarely the slide deck, it is getting in front of the right people at the right time. The opportunity XSS Capital was set up to improve how quality rounds move from early interest to firm commitments. For founders We focus on helping founders understand which investors are a real fit, and how to approach them with a clear and honest story. We act as a connector and guide so that founders can spend more time on the business, and less time lost in a maze of cold outreach. For investors Investors see opportunities that have already been organised into a simple, decision ready format. The connection The result is a cleaner path from first contact to term sheet, with more energy left for building the business. This approach reduces noise in the system so that strong stories have a better chance to be heard. See www.xss-capital.com for details on our approach and current focus. If strong companies can still fail to raise, is the core problem the quality of ideas or the quality of the fundraising process around them?

💡 Investment Announcement At the Conduit EIS Impact Fund, our 100-Year Life thesis drives us to back ventures that help people healthier, and more fulfilling lives for longer. We are thrilled to announce Conduit Connect's latest investment in Gladys, an AI-powered home care platform on a mission to fix Britain’s broken care system. Founded by George Robinson and Alex Sorisi, Gladys combines smart technology, logistics know-how, and a relentless focus on better outcomes for both families and carers. The platform matches people in need of support with the UK’s best local carers — offering 5-star care at fairer prices, while helping carers earn up to 65% more than traditional agencies. As George Robinson puts it: “We all know that Britain’s care system is broken. Re-arranging deck-chairs on a sinking ship will not cut it. People are dying unnecessarily, and brilliant carers are undervalued and underpaid. Gladys is using this investment to supercharge its technology, and deliver the service that we would want for our loved ones.” Gladys has already supported tens of thousands of hours of independent living across a 20,000 km area. With this new funding — part of a £1.5m Seed round led by Cornerstone VC — Gladys aims to expand nationwide, delivering hundreds of thousands of hours of quality care by 2026. We believe technology can help rebuild trust and dignity in care — creating meaningful, well-paid work and ensuring that people receive the support they deserve long before they get sick.
