Allison Farris shared thisLast month, I had the opportunity to speak on the main stage at DEVWorld Conference in Amsterdam and connect with an inspiring community of 6,000 developers. During my talk, "Teaching agents to pay: a developer’s guide," we explored the shift from human-driven search to agent-driven execution, breaking down the core protocols needed to enable secure, AI-native payments. The energy also carried over into our packed, hands-on agentic commerce workshop, where developers got to build these solutions together. The biggest theme I heard from the community over the two days was clear: developers are no longer just exploring AI but are actively looking for the infrastructure and protocols required to make agentic commerce a production reality today. I spent the week inside the Developer Hub Broadcast Studio interviewing the engineering teams behind our newest launches (catch the playlist at https://lnkd.in/gaTs95ht) Getting to discuss the launches straight from the people who built it is what makes this role genuinely special and none of it happens without an incredible team behind it! Grateful to work alongside James Beswick, ⛷️ Ben Smith, 👩💻 Anna Spysz, Ashley Ansari and Brad who make this look easy. Additionally, meeting with members of Stripe Insiders, our developer advisory board, in person for the first time was a personal highlight. Hearing how they're building with Stripe, the problems they're solving, and what they need from us makes building a developer community worth it. Allison Farris reacted on thisAllison Farris reacted on thisGot a chance to spend the evening at Stripe HQ in San Francisco for Stripe’s Developer Meetup, and one question kept coming up: How does an AI agent safely buy something on behalf of a person? Three demos approached the problem from different angles: → Mark Moriarty showed Stripe Directory, making business information searchable for AI agents. → Chethan Shriyan & Hasan T. demonstrated Amazon Web Services (AWS) Bedrock AgentCore Payments, including wallets and deterministic spending limits that can prevent an agent from going beyond its budget. → David Mataciunas showcased M11 Labs OpenMarket, exploring how agents can evaluate sellers and verify product claims before a purchase happens. What stood out to me was that agentic commerce isn't just about making agents smarter. It’s about building the guardrails, trust, verification, and infrastructure that allow agents to actually act on our behalf. As AI moves from generating answers to taking actions, these invisible layers may become just as important as the intelligence itself. Really enjoyed seeing these ideas demonstrated live and learning from the people building them. Allison Farris liked thisAllison Farris liked thisLast week, Patrick Collison joined EU finance ministers and central bank governors at ECOFIN in Dublin to discuss how Europe can help its most ambitious businesses start, scale, and remain here. Many of the solutions are within Europe’s control: deeper capital markets that channel European savings into European growth; less bureaucracy and simpler access to the Single Market; and rules that give Europe’s ambitious companies the flexibility to invest and hire. Financial innovation must be central to this agenda. As AI transforms commerce, people and software will increasingly transact globally and in real time. Properly regulated stablecoins can provide the programmable, interoperable infrastructure the AI economy requires. Europe should not be left behind and must ensure that it sets the standards for the next generation of financial infrastructure. Europe should shape this emerging ecosystem itself, instead of watching it develop elsewhere. It has the talent, capital, ideas, and market scale to lead. Now it must make it possible for European founders to build in Europe, raise in Europe, and serve the world from Europe.

David is breaking down the mechanics of this shift: what happens when models inspect your catalog, why marketing copy fails, and why verifiable proof is the ultimate competitive advantage.

In the 2010s, one intern turned our laptop-based deployment scripts into our first centralized deployment system. Another built our original, homegrown status page. Another laid the foundation for our API permissions framework and rewrote API authentication. These systems have since been replaced, rewritten, or expanded substantially, but it has always amazed me what a motivated intern can get off the ground in just a few months, without preconceptions about what might be “impossible.” 😌 This year, our summer interns worked directly in complex domains and large existing codebases serving millions of businesses. They’re right in the middle of how the engineering discipline is changing with AI, and there were early and promising signs that it’s now much easier to gain industry-specific context, navigate unfamiliar systems, and build great judgment, all in service of shipping some very ambitious projects. Some examples of what they shipped this summer: 🏦 A new safeguard deactivates closed, frozen, or invalid bank accounts in about five seconds instead of as long as 12 hours, helping prevent avoidable payout failures. 🔑 A new Dashboard tool analyzes how an API key has actually been used and helps a business protect their API keys by replacing its broad access with a narrower set of permissions. 🎨 Checkout studio can preview real products, prices, currencies, and custom branding without overwriting a business’s account-wide styling. The project prepared the experience to expand from a roughly 200-business private preview to more than 140,000 eligible businesses! 🌏 Checkout now flags invalid Australian PayIDs before a PayTo payment is confirmed, so customers can correct mistakes immediately instead of discovering a failed payment later. 🏥 Issuing entered private preview with real-time support for the healthcare-eligible portion of FSA and HSA purchases, allowing issuers to approve the correct amount (including partial approvals). Thanks to all our interns (and their intern mentors!) for a wonderful summer! ♥️☀️

Allison Farris liked thisAllison Farris liked thisI built a URL shortener that agents can pay for. https://mpp.tl has two doors. People (at Stripe) can sign in and manage links for free, no wallet. Agents skip the sign in process and pay $0.01 over MPP on Tempo. No API key. The test is one line. Paste this into Cursor, Claude, or any MPP-aware agent: `Create a testnet short link to https://example.com using https://mpp.tl` If you want to customize the shortlink URL with Named paths you can pay $0.01 on mainnet (real pathUSD or USDC.e) The interesting part is not shortening URLs. It is that an agent can find the offer, pay, and call the API without anyone provisioning credentials. give it a try!

Witnessing the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team operate over the race weekend offered valuable lessons in what high performance looks like. From making critical strategy decisions during a safety car period, to a 20+ person crew delivering sub-two-second pit stops under intense pressure, the level of focus across the entire team was truly inspiring. While the experience was amazing, a highlight was spending quality time with our customers and partners outside of standard meetings. Having the opportunity to connect in person, discuss shared goals, and strengthen those relationships was invaluable. Thank you to all of our guests who took the time to join us for such a memorable weekend - your partnership is greatly appreciated. Another day, another bug-induced hard delete and support "unable to reinstate my data" - this time Monzo Bank, ironically while I was trying to demo their ease-of-use to my mum. Call me biased, but: *immutable databases*, people, please! Immutable databases (like XTDB, shameless plug) maintain the history of your data so that even if there's a bug in your system (like this one), you can still piece together exactly what happened, and recover if need be. If your `DELETE`s are still hard-deleting data, or if you're still hand-rolling soft-deletes with ad-hoc extra columns on every table or a web of triggers, there is a better way. https://lnkd.in/erj_VHXB
