Thank you to Emily Austin and Hartmann Young for inviting me onto the #TabletTuesday podcast to discuss the micronutrient status of the UK population, and the evidence-based solutions that can improve micronutrient levels at a population level. 🎧

Inside the conversation 🎙️ As part of her #TabletTuesday series, our Health & Nutrition Director, Emily Austin sits down with some of the most influential people shaping the nutraceutical industry. In this clip, Emily speaks with Harry Jarrett (PhD. MRSB.), Director of Science & Research at Heights, about an often-overlooked issue: micronutrient deficiencies in seemingly healthy UK adults, and what can be done to address them. Harry brings experience spanning academia, NHS clinical research and now industry, where his work at Heights focuses on evidence-based nutrition and translating research into real-world impact. A small snippet from a much bigger conversation on the science and future of nutrition. 🎧 Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eQZthg6X

Over the past few days, I had the privilege of being at St John's College, Cambridge, University of Cambridge, with ClubB12- a gathering of patient groups, world-leading clinicians and academics. I was honoured to present Heights's recently completed randomised controlled trial, sharing evidence on the B12 and related B-vitamins biomarker response, and the homocysteine lowering to our commercially available multivitamin. I also spoke about a topic of great passion to me: how we bridge the gap between industry and academia to advance nutritional science together- for real-world impact through evidence-based supplements and advocacy to government to improve the health of our population. On that note, it was brilliant to hear Katrina Burchell (The Pernicious Anaemia Society) give a superb overview of our successful Parliamentary reception last week, aimed at raising awareness of B12 deficiency and improving diagnosis and treatment across the population. I was also able to catch-up with my PhD mentor, Prof Mary Ward, whose excellent talk captured the power of optimising B-vitamin status across the lifecycle to improve various health outcomes. I was also delighted to meet Prof Joshua W. Miller (Rutgers University), whose keynote traced the past, present and future of holotranscobalamin- the active form of B12. Terrific discussions, exciting avenues for future research and product development, and above all- wonderful company. Thank you to the organisers for the invitation to present our data at such a prestigious event. #VitaminB12 #NutritionScience #Micronutrients #EvidenceBasedNutrition #ClinicalResearch #PublicHealth #cluB12

Very proud that our Director of Science and Research, Dr Harry Jarrett (PhD. MRSB.) represented Heights at the House of Commons alongside Sophie Medlin, to raise awareness of the impact of vitamin B12 deficiency. The response in the room was fantastic with genuine interest from across the audience in the core message: optimising B12 levels could save countless lives and prevent unnecessary suffering, yet far too many people are still deficient. For Heights, it's a real marker of the reputation we've built in the nutrition field, and a reminder of why we do this work. And of course, a massive thank you to the B12Alliance.

On Thursday I had the privilege of standing in the Palace of Westminster for something that matters deeply to me, and to far more people than most realise. The B12Alliance brought its work to the House of Commons to shine a light on vitamin B12 deficiency: a condition that is more common than people think, too often missed or dismissed, and, left untreated, capable of causing lasting harm, including irreversible neurological damage. Behind the clinical language are real people who have spent years being told their symptoms were "nothing," or who still struggle to access the diagnosis and treatment they need. In one room, patients, clinicians, researchers and policymakers came together, pressing for better diagnosis, better treatment and better outcomes across the UK. I was proud to lead the Solutions station, focused on the practical, evidence-based steps that can improve how B12 deficiency is identified and managed. Seeing people stop, ask questions and take the message away with them made every late night on the materials worth it. Events like this do not happen on their own, and I want to thank Katrina Burchell and the whole team at The Pernicious Anaemia Society, for their tireless work on behalf of patients and all of the cluB-B12 members who brought this event together. A thank you also to Heights, for backing this work, both through its financial contribution and by giving us the time, research and resources to support the vital work of PAS and cluB-B12. It is a real example of what industry and patient communities can achieve together. Most of all, thank you to the patients who shared their stories, and to the parliamentarians who gave their time to listen. Your voices are what move this forward. For me, this is also about something bigger. It is about driving meaningful change in nutrition policy, so we improve the nutritional status and health of the whole population, not just those who already know to ask. The reception is over, but the work is not! #VitaminB12 #PerniciousAnaemia #NutritionPolicy #PublicHealth #PatientAdvocacy

Today is the day. 🎉 The B-12Alliance House of Commons Reception is here. This moment has been months in the making - and it wouldn't have happened without an incredible team of people who gave their time, expertise, and energy to make it a reality. The B12 Alliance House of Commons Reception Working Group: Katrina Burchell - Pernicious Anaemia Society Julian Owen - Founder cluB-12 Martin Warren -President cluB-12 Karyl Carter - Pernicious Anaemia Society Carrie-Anne Carr - B12def.Org Cindy Stirrat - B-12Alliance Education Programme Jimmy Norman - Pernicious Anaemia Society Andy Klein - cluB-12 Alfie Thain - cluB-12 Harry Jarrett - Heights With invaluable additional input from colleagues at the Quadram Institute, the British Orthopaedic Association, the office of Karl Turner MP, as well as the House of Commons Events team - and from key individuals across partner organisations throughout the campaign build-up. Today, this team - alongside B12 experts, lived experience patients, MPs, clinicians, researchers and policymakers - will be in the same room, making the case for better diagnosis, better treatment, and better access to self-administration for everyone affected by B12 deficiency. This is what collaboration looks like. This is what patient advocacy looks like. Let's go. 💜 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d7M4M2zx 📣 Share this post and follow us

🏛️ This time next week, we'll be holding our Reception at the House of Commons And we couldn't be more ready. The response to the B-12Alliance campaign has been incredible. MPs have replied acknowledging the delays, the misdiagnoses, and the treatment failures patients face daily - and recognising that the NHS 10-Year Health Plan is the moment to make sure that B12 deficiency, regardless of underlying cause, receives better education, diagnosis and treatment. Health journalists, podcasters, policymakers, NHS staff and clinicians have engaged with our message. And patients across the UK have written to their MPs, shared their stories, and helped us build a case that is impossible to ignore. Next week, a team of B12 experts and lived experience patients will be in the Terrace Pavilion - raising awareness, presenting the evidence, and making clear exactly what needs to change to improve patient outcomes. But the reception is just the beginning. Real change takes sustained pressure, continued awareness, and a community that refuses to go quiet. We can truly make a difference together - and together is the only way this happens. 💜 Please keep donating - every contribution funds the next stage of the campaign: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d7M4M2zx 📣 Share your personal story or your interest in this area via our website and help us keep the pressure on: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d7M4M2zx 📣 Share this post and follow us @b12alliance #B12Deficiency #B12Alliance #B12AllianceWestminster #PatientAdvocacy

  • A day behind the scenes at Heights HQ 🎬 This is just part of what building a science-backed brand actually looks like- cameras out, new faces around the office (today it was a five year old as part of a fun new video we're working on!), and the usual mix of big ideas and bad jokes. We love pulling back the curtain on how Heights comes together, one day at a time. #BehindTheScenes #HeightsHQ #LifeAtHeights #ScienceBackedBrand #TeamCulture #BrandStory #WorkInProgress #ContentCreation
