See you soon, Singapore! 🇸🇬 I'm heading to SuperReturn Asia in a couple weeks, to speak about the realities of VC in 2026, and what’s changed since the recent boom. Joining me on stage are Jay Park & Jared Baragar, two people who've lived both sides of the LP conversation and who I'm looking forward to swapping notes with. On the agenda are the under-appreciated risks LPs need to have on their radar right now, and what it actually takes to earn allocator trust back after a few hard years. Australia's role in the bigger APAC story doesn't get enough airtime at conferences like this one. When we started Evertrace, we had a hypothesis that software could outperform humans at sourcing investment opportunities. We felt that traditional tools fell short. They relied on founders showing up in the usual places, often far too late to create any real edge. By the time a company appeared, the opportunity was already crowded. So we started looking in more unusual places. We kept asking a simple question: what is the very first trace a founder leaves when they start working on something new? We built Evertrace from there. Today, more than 150 funds use Evertrace. Earlier this month, my co-founder Jacob Graubaek Houlberg went on etn. to talk more about our product, our vision, and how we see the early-stage venture game changing fast.

The easiest way to find VC roles before they’re even posted is.... Most people apply when a VC job goes public. By then, hundreds of applicants are already competing. The smarter way is to track fund lifecycles. VC firms usually hire when: 1️⃣ They are in the 3rd–4th year of their fund: That’s when portfolio companies mature and firms need more support. 2️⃣ They are raising or have just closed a new fund: More capital = more deals = more hiring. So instead of randomly applying, track which funds are deploying capital. That’s where opportunities appear before they’re announced. Ways to find this information: • Fund announcements and press releases • Platforms like Crunchbase, PitchBook, Tracxn • LP announcements and portfolio updates • LinkedIn activity of partners VC recruiting is less about job portals and more about understanding how funds operate. How one letter sparked a near-scandal A quick (and not very fun) story from a founder in our portfolio. We invested in a company that’s growing fast. We’re in the round alongside a16z. As the founder started raising the next round, a managing partner of another fund asked for the full cap table. In the “M” section she saw our name - Mento VC - and somehow read it as Menlo. For context: Menlo Ventures is a tier-1 firm with ~$6B AUM and a storied track record (Uber, Carta, Anthropic, Chime, Roku, Siri, and more). Then the confusion snowballed. Calls went out to other investors - “Did you know Menlo is in the cap table?” Menlo themselves confirmed they hadn’t invested. The situation began to look like the founder had misrepresented the round - a serious reputational risk in venture. Word reached a partner at a16z, who convened a group call. On the call, the email was read out loud. It said exactly what the founder had said all along: Mento, not Menlo. So, a16z’s partner asked this manager to call everyone she had previously spoken to the ones she told that the founder claimed Menlo was on the cap table and tell them that she was mistaken and had misread the information. The a16z partner also said that she will be banned from any deals involving a16z, as what she did - making such claims without double-checking - is unacceptable. We found ourselves in the middle of a drama that we didn’t create. Silver lining: a lot more top-tier funds now know who Mento is. 🙂 Takeaway: in fundraising, reputation is currency - for founders and investors. One letter can change the story. Double-check your cap table, confirm what you hear, and don’t let rumors outrun facts. P.S. Mento comes from Mentor. It’s about support, honest dialogue, and walking the path with founders.
