Leon Beck reposted thisLeon Beck reposted thisThe global AI & technology community has spoken and we have listened. LEAP 2026 will now take place from 31 August – 3 September in Riyadh. This decision has been shaped hand-in-hand with our partners, investors, founders and wider community, to ensure we create the right environment for meaningful conversations, real connections and active deal-making. Last year, LEAP welcomed more than 200,000 attendees from 180+ countries, with $14.9B in investment commitments announced in just four days, all set against the backdrop of a Saudi digital economy now valued at $139B and growing 🇸🇦 The energy, ambition and pace of innovation we’re seeing across the Kingdom’s tech ecosystem continues to grow, and it’s incredibly exciting to be building a platform that reflects that and brings the right people together at the right time. A huge thank you to our incredible partners at MCIT and SAFCSP for all of their phenomenal support. And of course, a huge thank you and well done to my team at Tahaluf ❤️ Mike Champion Abdulaziz Alghurayr Richard McKeon Basma Dawwas Clement Edward Aravind Kanniah Alaa Khushaim Rami Danyal

Leon Beck reposted thisLeon Beck reposted thisAs we head into LEAP’s 5th anniversary, it feels like a moment worth pausing on. Mike Champion and I were privileged to co-create LEAP with our partners at MCIT and SAFCSP back in 2020. What started with an idea has turned into something far bigger than we ever expected. At Tahaluf, the most honest measure of scale is WhatsApp. If you want to understand what it really takes to deliver LEAP, you look at the group chat. Today, there are currently 119 people in the LEAPers WhatsApp group working towards LEAP 5. LEAP 1 was delivered by just 26 people. Two became five. Five became ten. And together with incredible partners and support teams, those 26 made it happen. As we move into our fifth year and our biggest LEAP yet, it felt right to recognise the team that started it all. The 26 are still with us. The best in the business, great humans to work with, and over time, friends and a real support system. Huge respect to you all and happy five years of LEAPing together. 🇸🇦💚🫶🏻 #OneLEAPAway #LEAP5 Mohaned Abdullah Abdulaziz Alghurayr Basma Dawwas Clement Edward Aravind Kanniah Richard McKeon Priyanka Nazeer Rami Danyal Kitty Draper Fares Sahnoune Aman Sethi Tom Bourgoin Malik F. From months of preparation to seeing it all come together on site, LEAP was an experience I’ll genuinely remember. I also had the opportunity to step outside my usual role and interview technology and business leaders from around the world, hearing first-hand about their experiences and perspectives. A big thank you to my amazing marketing team and everyone behind it all. Seeing everyone’s hard work come to life made the experience even more special. A lot learned, great memories made, and very proud to have played a part in bringing LEAP 2026 to life. #LEAP26 #Tahaluf Alaa Khushaim, Kitty Draper, Dorian Bennett, Hugh Pettit, Owais Tambe, Vaishali Balgu, Leon Beck, Hana Alharbi, Leyan Malki, Matthew Mangulabnan, Douglas Keighley, Tasnim D. Leon Beck liked thisLeon Beck liked thisOK, this definitely wasn’t an ordinary day at the office. For the first time, I travelled to a #Tahaluf event by helicopter. Thanks to The Helicopter Company, the official helicopter partner of #LEAP5, I had the slightly surreal experience of conducting an interview mid-air, with some extraordinary views across #Riyadh and #LEAP2026 below. And there was an unexpected bonus. With both her parents working and childcare proving impossible, my daughter came along for the ride. What started as a practical solution turned into one of those father-daughter moments I’ll remember for a very long time. Seeing LEAP from the air gives you a completely different sense of its scale. Being able to point it out below and explain to my daughter what thousands of people have worked so hard to build made it particularly special. And, for anyone heading to the show, doing the journey in under 20 minutes isn’t a bad way to beat the Riyadh traffic either. A pretty special day. #Leap26

Leon Beck liked thisWe launched Money20/20 Middle East with an ambitious goal: to create a premier platform in Riyadh where the people driving the future of money could come together to build what’s next. What happened exceeded our expectations: last year, Money20/20 Middle East became the fastest-growing fintech event in the world, bringing together leaders from across the financial ecosystem and proving that Riyadh is not simply witnessing the transformation of finance in the region, it is leading it. This 14–16 September 2026, Money20/20 Middle East returns to Riyadh with an even bigger ambition. Our goal is to enable deeper conversations, stronger partnerships, and more opportunities for innovators and leaders shaping the future of fintech. All will come together in one place: we are set to welcome 38,000+ attendees, alongside leading brands like Visa, Tamara, STC Bank, Google, and Infosys Finacle. Global fintech leaders from State Street, MNT Halan, Tabby, BlackRock, and Uber will bring fresh prospectives, industry insights, and real-world experience to the stage. Investors from Apollo International Capital, Fasanara Capital, Waed Ventures, Partners for Growth, and SVC will be there exploring new opportunities, alongside 150 startups building what comes next. But the true impact cannot be measured by numbers alone. The ideas exchanged in hallways, the partnerships formed over coffee, and the conversations that spark entirely new businesses are the moments that drive progress well into the future. This is where the region’s ambition meets global expertise, where partnerships are formed and the next phase of fintech growth begins. For us, this goes far beyond a three-day event. It is about creating a platform where the future of money takes shape. Join us at Money20/20 Middle East. We cannot wait to welcome you in Riyadh. This is Where It Starts. https://lnkd.in/d7W3d2AH

Still buzzing after joining the first panel of the day at the Campaign Middle East Breakfast Briefing event last Friday morning: “From screens to smart networks: How programmatic DOOH is powering the dynamic era.” It was a privilege to share the stage with some seriously sharp minds in our industry: Wissam Najjar - Omnicom Media Group (MENA), Laurence Baldwin - talabat, Bruce von Kaufmann - Reem Mall, all nicely guided by Anup Oommen from Campaign Middle East. What I loved most about this conversation was how real it got. Yes, DOOH in the UAE is still a small slice of total OOH spend, and programmatic DOOH is even smaller… but the shift is already happening. As screens get smarter and data gets deeper, we’re moving from static placements to something far more dynamic, measurable and intelligent. Wissam summed it up perfectly. pDOOH has gone from a “test activity” to a must-have in media plans. Flexibility, precision, transparency… we’re finally unlocking the value this channel has been promising for years. Laurence shared a great real-world example from Ramadan on how dynamic messaging and cultural context go hand-in-hand. It’s not just about tech, it’s about being human and relevant. From Hypermedia’s side, it was great to show how much of this “future tech” is already live today. With more than 4,000 programmatically accessible screens and sensor technology that enables real-time audience targeting and intelligence, the capabilities being discussed globally are already active and scaling here in MENA. And Bruce brought an interesting perspective from the mall ecosystem, showing how programmatic DOOH can diversify budgets, unlock new clients, and give shoppers more tailored, relevant experiences. The whole session had one clear message: pDOOH isn’t a “coming soon” story anymore. It’s here, it’s working, and it’s reshaping how we think about OOH. Big shoutout to Campaign Middle East for hosting and to everyone on stage for such an honest, forward-thinking conversation. Excited to keep pushing this space forward.

Real Brand Marketing Isn’t Paid Ads…🫡 In Saudi Arabia, one trustworthy person’s recommendation can outshine an entire ad campaign. Word of Mouth (WOM) isn’t just “friends talking”—it’s a real growth engine for brands. Studies show that online recommendations via social channels significantly impact Saudi consumers’ purchase intentions. When someone says, “Get this product from X brand—my experience was strong, I got the best result, and the package is creative” trust goes up, engagement follows, and decisions are made faster. And since Saudi culture highly values trust and personal connections, a single endorsement can bring in new customers with virtually no ad cost. So, if you have a Brand: ✅ Focus on creating an experience worth talking about ✅ Amplify satisfied customers’ stories ✅ Encourage peer-to-peer sharing and interaction The voice that goes from heart to heart—that’s what turns a consumer into your brand’s ambassador. "إذا أردت أن تبقى، فاجعل لسان الناس ميزانك"

We recently hosted a roundtable workshop with the IAB Ad Fraud & Media Quality Workstream, led by our Regional Director – Digital & Partnerships, Abdelnabi Alaeddine, bringing together stakeholders from across the digital advertising ecosystem to discuss key issues surrounding ad fraud and media quality. The session, joined by IAB MENA's Executive Director, Ian Manning, and Bidease MENA Managing Director, Shayan Rahimi, provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on current market challenges, identify areas where greater education and awareness are needed, and explore how we can collectively strengthen standards across digital media. Together, these conversations help drive a more transparent, accountable and sustainable digital advertising ecosystem. Everyone’s Launching Retail Media in the GCC Almost No One Is Building a Media Business... Everyone in the GCC is racing to launch a retail media network right now. On paper, it looks impressive. The IAB MENA Retail Media Capability Map (Jan 2026) shows 27 retail media networks across the GCC, offering on-site, off-site, search, CTV, DOOH, first-party data, and measurement stacks. Capability is no longer the problem. What’s quietly missing from most of them is the thing that actually makes retail media work: Operating discipline... Here’s the uncomfortable truth most high-level conversations skip: Retail media doesn’t fail because of a lack of inventory. It fails because it’s built like a revenue add-on, not a media business. I’ve seen what operating maturity looks like in APAC. When FairPrice Group & The Trade Desk built its retail media capability in Singapore, the advantage wasn’t formats or scale. It was built with strategic restraint. ❎ They didn’t monetize everything. ❎ They didn’t flood shoppers. ❎ They didn’t confuse access to data with responsibility for it. Instead, they anchored the system on fundamentals that real media businesses understand: ✅ Deterministic, consent-driven shopper data ✅ Clear audience definitions planners could actually trust ✅ Closed-loop measurement tied to real sales, not proxy metrics ✅ Frequency control across the open internet, not just on-site That’s how you earn 90%+ household reach without destroying trust. That’s the difference between retail media as inventory and retail media as infrastructure. The market development work I’ve done with global CPGs shows the same pattern every time. The hardest part of retail media isn’t technology. It’s governance... Brands struggle when: 🔹 Retail data is treated as a lower-funnel shortcut 🔹 On-site media is mistaken for a full-funnel strategy 🔹 Incrementality is sold as a feature instead of enforced as a rule When retail media is done properly, it stops behaving like a channel. It becomes a planning signal across CTV, display, audio, DOOH, and commerce. Waste drops. Frequency normalizes. Trust returns. The GCC isn’t late to the retail media party. It’s early enough to get it right. But the next phase won’t be won by who launches fastest. It will be won by retailers who think like media operators, and media operators who understand the responsibility that comes with shopper data. Retail media won’t replace programmatic. It will replace the parts of programmatic brands no longer believe in. And in 2026, the businesses that win won’t be the loudest. They’ll be the ones audiences, brands, and regulators still trust... If this shifted how you’re thinking about retail media, Repost ♻️ pass it on. I share perspectives like this regularly.
