Abstract
Femtosecond laser cataract machine is a devise to perform the vital steps in Cataract operation, i.e anterior capsulorhexis and removal of the nucleus and cortex of the cataract-lehs without complications.
Description
Title:
FEMTOSECOND LASER CATARACT MACHINE
Technical field:
This invention relates to a devise for useful to perform cataract operation 5 (eye operation)
Background of Invention
About fifty million people in the world suffer in darkness. Yet many of them are blind due to treatable cataracts whereas inexpensive surgery can restore perfect sight. The last millennium has seen many revolutionary that have made
10.
Cataract surgery one of the most rewarding forms of surgery but still remain complicated and expensive.
The Femtosecond laser cataract machine is conceptualized to eliminate the complications of the procedures involved in perfuming cataract surgery
The major steps in Cataract surgery are:
Anterior capsulorhexis
Removal of the nucleus and cortex of the cataract-lens
Intraocular implant
Anterior capsulorhexis
With this machine, a perfect anterior capsulorhexis can be performed. As it can be performed at a press of a button, there is no learning curve and no complication.
Removal of the nucleus and cortex of the cataract-lens
The nucleus of the cataract can be cracked to a desired size with a press of a button
This will enable surgeon to aspirate the nucleus without any complication.
The Femtosecond laser cataract machine will be within the reach of all ophthalmologists and easy to maintain.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
The major steps in Cataract surgery are:
Anterior capsulorhexis
Removal of the nucleus and cortex of the cataract-lens
Intraocular implant.
Femtosecond laser has the ability to ablate corneal tissue as shown by its use in corneal refractory surgery
Anterior capsulorhexis
Using the same property, anterior capsulorhexis can be performed This can be achieved by applying a focused circular beam of
Femtosecond laser on the anterior capsule. Removal of the nucleus and cortex of the cataract-lens
By applying a focused multiple radial beams of Femtosecond laser on the nucleus, the nucleus can be divided into pieces small enough to be aspirated by 28G cannula.
Slit Lamp or an operating microscope
the devise to deliver the Femtosecond laser can be incorporated into A slit lamp or an operating microscope.
DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS AND BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION.
In order that the Invention may be more readily understood and put into. effect, a preferred example of the invention will now be described.
The components of the instruments will include:
1. Slit lamp or Operating Microscope.
Figure 1 - shows the Slit Lamp with
a. The Femtosecond Laser Generator and
b. The Laser beam creator which shapes the Femtosecond Laser
2. The Femtosecond laser generator will be housed in a separate box It will have the gadgets to control the energy of the Femtosecond laser.
3. A console devise incorporated in the slit lamp/microscope to shape and focus the beam of the Femtosecond laser.
Figure 2
Show the 5.5 mm circular beam which can be crated to laser beam creator.
Figure 3
Shows the radial beams, 5.0 mm in length (which is shorter the diameter of the circular beam) to crack the nucleus.
Claims
The Femtosecond laser cataract machine uses laser to perform the anterior capsulorhexis and crack the nucleus of the cataract
It has no learning curve as the procedure can be performed with a press of a button.
The steps in surgery using this machine are predictable and Reproducible.
This machine will avoid all the major dreaded complications of a cataract surgery
It can be used in a non-sterile environment
The machine will be cost effective and easy to maintain
If can also be used to perform precise posterior
capsulotomy and replace the YAG capsulotomy posterior
If can modified to perform keratoplasty
