Abstract

Plasma display panel (1,2) has barrier walls (23) composed of multiple vertical walls (24) and multiple horizontal walls (25), each of the horizontal walls wholly or partly being lower than the vertical walls. In the formation of barrier walls, masking of stripe pattern corresponding to the arrayal of the vertical walls (24) is carried out on glass plate (21a). Nonmasked areas of the glass plate are cut off, resulting in formation of substrate (21) with the vertical walls (24). Firing material (250) is applied by coating on the substrate (21) so as to fill the interstices between adjacent vertical walls (24), and masking of stripe pattern corresponding to the arrayal of the horizontal walls (25) is carried out on the substrate (21) having been coated with the firing material (250). Nonmasked areas of the layer of the firing material (250) are cut off, and thereafter the firing material (251) remaining on the substrate (21) is fired. The volume of the firing material (251) is reduced by the firing, so that there are provided horizontal walls (25) at least partially lower than the vertical walls (24).
