Abstract

An audio-video signal generator, such as a set top box, comprising a television signal generation module having a first operating mode in which it outputs a television signal representing a received broadcast television channel and a second operating mode in which it alternatively or additionally displays internet content. The television signal generation module is operable to switch from the first operating mode to the second operating mode responsive to a mode change command from a user. Link data is broadcast with a broadcast television signal and the internet content which is retrieved by the audio-video signal generator depends on the received link data, thereby facilitating the provision of internet content to viewers of advertising or informative material on broadcast television.
