Abstract

A decorative cutout, which may be any one of a number of intricate cutouts of paper material of various colors, is mounted with a dhesive to a corrugated surface, which has been sprayed with adhesive. The corrugated strip is mounted to a firm backing and an outer mounting element with a predetermined aperutre is positioned over the corrugated material to present a border about the cutout. The corrugated surface provides depth to the cutout and a ready means of adhering the cutout to the corrugated material.

Description

DECORATIVE CUTOUT MOUNTED ON CORRUGATED BACKING DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring now to the drawings, the invention comprises a decorative assembly 10, shown in FIG. 3, which comprises a cutout 11 of paper or other material that is mounted to a corrugated sheet 12 by a spray adhesive 13. The corrugated sheet 12 includes a plurality of parallel ridges 20 separated by parallel recesses. The corrugated sheet 12, FIG. 3, comprises one side of an assembly 14 that includes a flat back not shown. The corrugated sheet 12, and flat back 15 are preassembled together.
A top cardboard sheet or mat 16 is mounted over of the cardboard sheet 14. The top sheet 16 includes a circular or other configuration cutout 17 to expose the corrugated sheet 12 within the cutout 17.
The sheet 12 is sprayed lightly with an adhesive 13 such as 3 M Spray Mount™ and the paper cutout 11 is positioned thereon. The adhesive 13 firmly mounts the cutout 11 to the corrugated sheet 12 to provide a unique image that enhances the natural beauty of the cutout 11. Depth perception is another advantage of the invention.
Such cutouts 11 are normally produced by hand in countries such as China where a great amount of skill is required to produce intricate designs. A glass covering (not shown) may be placed over the cutout for display purposes and mounting means may be affixed to the back. Further, the decorative assembly 10 may be of various sizes or colors or include a grouping of displays in a single assembly 10. A sheet having various raised configurations to present the cutout 11 in an enhanced viewing arrangement may replace the corrugated sheet 12.
While the invention has been explained by a detailed description of certain specific embodiments, it is understood that various modifications and substitutions can be made in any of them within the scope of the appended claims, which are intended also to include equivalents of such embodiments.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
FTELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to the display of artistic material and particularly to the display of decorative cutouts mounted in a new and improved manner to show designs in a visually enhanced mode. It is common to display paper cutouts on flat surfaces particularly in complicated and exquisite Asian cutouts but the present invention provides a new beauty and depth to such arrangements.
DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED ART INCLUDING INFORMATION DISCLOSED UNDER 37 CFR §§ 1.97-1.98
The prior art includes U.S. patent 3,947,987 to Allen, which shows a sheet of corrugated material wrapped around a rotatable poster display unit. The corrugated paper permits posters to be secured by fasteners such as pins or the like to sheets which can be any one of a number colors or designs.
U.S. patent 4,900,604 to Martinez, et al, discloses a versatile wall decorating system that employs self-adhering pre-cut decorative appliques that are removably attached to substrate sheets adhered to walls.
Other patents of some interest include patent 5,894,986 to Lederman, patent 6,155,319 to Giugliano and patent 6,273,979 to Lastoria. None of the foregoing patents appear to disclose the inventive concepts involving the use of corrugated backgrounds for the display of paper cutouts.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a decorative cutout that may be any one of a number of intricate cutouts of paper material in various colors. The cutout is mounted with adhesive to a corrugated strip that has been sprayed with adhesive. The corrugated strip is mounted to a firm cardboard backing and an outer mounting element is secured thereover to the corrugated material to present a border about the cutout. The corrugated strip provides depth to the cutout and a ready means of adhering the cutout to the corrugated material.
Accordingly, an object of this invention is to provide a new and improved decorative cutout assembly.
Another object of this invention is to provide a new and improved cutout assembly utilizing a corrugated backing to which a cutout is adhered
A more specific object of this invention is to provide a new and improved decorative cutout including a corrugated backing having a flat sheet on the other side thereof and a shaped cardboard edging mounted on the other side thereof to present an opening for mounting a cutout with a spray adhesive to achieve an improved image thereof. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The above objects and other features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent after a reading of the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the drawings wherein:
FIG. 1 discloses an exploded view of the invention.
FIG. 2 shows a corrugated sheet mounted on a backing.
FIG. 3 discloses the mounted assembly of FIG. 1.
