FREDERICK HENGEL AND JACOB ADDIS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOLDABLE BED-BOLSTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FREDERICK HENGEL, a citizen of the United States, and JACOB ADDIs, a subject of the King of Great Brit ain, and residents of the city of New York, boroughs of the Bronx and Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Foldable Bed- Bolster, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved foldable bed bolster, which is sanitary, and arranged to permit convenient and quick adjustment and to allow ready folding of the parts for cleaning or storing purposes. For the purpose men,- tioned use is made of a tubular fabric cover, stretched over heads adjustably held apart by a rod extending through the cover and seated in sockets screwing in said heads.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a perspective view of the bed bolster, part of the cover being broken out; Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal central section of the bed bolster; Fig. 3 is a per spective view of one of the heads; and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of one of the screw sockets.
A tubular cover A, of a suitable fabric material, is stretched over heads B, B, preferably made circular, and supporting at their inner faces sockets D, D extending through openings B B formed centrally in the heads B and B. A rod E is seated at its ends in the sockets D and D and ex tends centrally through the tubular cover A so as to hold the heads B .and B spaced apart. Tying strings F, F are attached to the terminals of the cover A outside of the heads B, B, as plainly indicated in the drawings, so that the terminals of the cover A can be closed with a view to hold the cover A stretched tightly over the heads B, B. It is understood that access to the sockets D and D is had through the ends Specification of Letters Patent.

of the cover A to permit the sockets being turned to adjust the tension of the cover A By screwing one of the sockets D the rod E can be removed and the parts collapsed, so that the bolster takes up very little room for storage or transportation.
The cover A is preferably provided with a longitudinally-extending slit or opening A to allow air to circulate in the hollow bolster.
The device is very simple and durable in construction and can becheaply manufac tured.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1,. A bed bolster comprising a tubular fabric cover, centrally apertured heads over which the cover is stretched, an adjustable socket carried by each of the heads at its aperture and projecting beyond the outer face of said head, and a rod extending between the heads and having its ends fitting loosely ,in the said sockets.
2. A bed bolster, comprising a tubular fabric cover, heads over which the cover is stretched, a nut on the inner face of one head, a screw socket screwing into the nut, a socket on the other head, and a rod having its ends loosely fitting in said sockets.
3. A bed bolster, comprisingatubular fabric cover, centrally apertured heads over which the ends of the cover are stretched, nuts centrally attached to the said heads, screw sockets screwing in the said nuts and projecting into the apertures of the heads, a rod extending centrally through the said cover and having the ends seated in the said sockets, and tying strings in the terminals of the cover outside the said heads.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
