ON ALF To JOSEPH DISE, 0F GLENROCK, PENNSYLVANIA.
- WINDOW-SCREEN.
To all whom it mag concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. HILDE- BRAND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Glenrock, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Screens, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in window screens, and especially in adjustable windowscreens which can be extended and contracted to fit windows of different sizes as well as to facilitate their insertion and removal from windows.
The invention has for an object to provide certain improvements in the devices for connecting the sliding sections of the screen; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is aside view of a screen embodying my invention. Fig.2 is a cross-section on about line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the end of one of the screen-sections, showing the clip applied and the rolling head and shaft in connection therewith; and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view showing the clip and rollinghead. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the end of one of the side bars, and Fig. 6 is a detail longitudinal section on about line 6 6 of Fig. 1.
As shown, the screen comprises the two sections A A, which are alike and have their side bars B provided in their inner faces with the undercut grooves C, in which fit the rolling heads D, carried on the opposite sections. These heads D are on. the outer ends of shafts E, which latter extend through the outer opening of the undercut groove of the side bar 13, carrying the head, and are 'journaled in the clip F, applied to the end of the side bar B, as best shown in Fig. 3 of the drawihgs, and as I will now describe.
The clips are alike and are formed with the side plates F and end plate F and are applied to the ends of the side bars B, with the outer side plate F lapping against the outer face of the side bar, the opposite side plate F fitting within the undercut portion of the groove C, and the end plate F abutting the end of the side bar, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings. The head D is on one Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed December 27, 1904:. Serial No- 288,386.
Patented Sept. 19, 1905.
end of the shaft E, which latter is journaled in the side, plates of the clip and is upset at e at its outer end. In practice the shaft re- I volves freely in the side plates of the clip and v the head may roll within the groove, and thus permit the sections to slide freely along each other, the head operating to maintain the sections in connection with each other as desired.
The construction is simple, easily applied, forms a secure connection between the two sections, and permits the same to move easily along each other in the practical use of the invention.- I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination substantially as herein described of the screen-sections s'lidable one upon the other and having their side bars provided in their inner or adjacent faces with undercut grooves, the clips applied to the ends of the side bars of the screen-sections and having their outer plates abutting the outer faces of the side bars, their end plates fitting against the ends of said side bars and their inner side plates fitting within the undercut portions of the grooves of their respective side bars, and the shafts journaled in the side plates of the clips and upset at their outer ends and provided at their inner ends with the heads adapted to roll within the undercut WILLIAM (J. HILDEBRAND, oFoLENRooK, PENNSYLVANIA, AssIGNoR OF groove of the screen-section opposite that by p which the said head and shaft are carried, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination in a window-screen with the sliding screen-sections having undercut grooves, of clips applied to the ends of the side bars of said sections and shafts journaled in said clips and having heads operating in the'undercut grooves of the section opposite that carrying the particular shaft, substantially as set forth.
3. YA screen-section having its side bars prodercut grooves of the opposing sections, substantially as set forth.
5. An attachment for Window-screens comprising a clip having opposite side plates and an end plate and a shaft journaled in said side plates and having a head at one end adapted to operate in an undercut groove of a screensection, substantially as set forth.
6. In a Window-screen, the combination of the sliding screen-sections having undercut grooves, the clips having opposite side plates and an end plate and applied to the ends of the side bars of said sections and provided with transverse shafts journaled in the side plates of the clips and having heads at one end adapted to operate in the undercut grooves of the sections opposite that carryil'ig the particular shaft, substantially as set forth.
7 The combination of the screen-sections slidable face to face and provided in the inner faces of their side bars with coincident undercut grooves, transverse shafts connected with the said sections and extending between the same and provided at their ends opposite the ends connected with their supporting-Seetions With heads turning in the undercut grooves of the opposingsections, substantially as set forth.
