T0 at whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARTIN STAGUHN, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
Myinvention consists of the improved plow, its parts and combinations of parts, as here'- in described and claimed, or the equivalents thereof. v
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the improved plow. Fig. 3 is asection of the plow on line 3 f Fig. 1 looking toward the left.
My improved plow is advisably constructed entirely of metal and preferably of steel, with the single exception that the handles may be made of wood.
In the drawings 5 is the beam which is constructed advisably of a bar of steel, the
' rear extremity of which is bent downwardly therefrom downwardly and is secured advisably by a rivet to the runner 9. The runner 9 is fastened to the lower extremity of the leg 6 and also to the knee 8 and projects forwardly therefrom in a substantially horizontal direction or parallel with the beam, its lower edge being inclined upwardly slightly near the front end. The main share 10 is secured detachably on the front end of the,
An auxiliary share 13, of triangular form, having its point toward the front and its base toward the rear, with an upwardly and laterally projecting sharpened edge, is mounted rigidly on a shank 14, which, projects rearwardly from the share and in the direction of its lower straight edge. This shank 14 is olfset at 15 and is secured at its rear end to the leg 6 above the offset 7 and to theknee 8 medially, the shank bearing against a medial portion 16 of the knee 8, which medial portion is offset away from the moldboard and from the vertical plane of the beam. The shank 14: is secured detachably to the leg 6 and to theknee 8 by means of clips 17, that pass around the shank and go throughthe leg and the knee and are provided with nuts turning onthelegsoftheclips. Bythismeans the shank is secured firmly but releasably in place on the knee and the leg. An auxiliary moldboard 18, consisting of a strip of'metal advisably thinner, lighter, and narrower than the moldboard 11, is secured at its front end rigidly to the auxiliary share 13 and at its rear end is secured by a brace 19 to the leg 6, screws or bolts with nuts being employed to secure the brace to the moldboard and the leg, so as to make the same detachable. The construction and disposition of the parts are such that the auxiliary share 13 is in an oblique position outwardly and upwardly away from the moldboard 11 and also away-from the vertical plane of the beam 5. This disposition of the auxiliary share 13 is best illustrated in Fig. 2. The auxiliary moldboard 18 extends rearwardly and slightly upwardly from the auxiliary share 13.v The auxiliary share 13 and the moldboard 18 are located at a distance from but parallel with the inner and upper edge or landside edge of the share 10 and the moldboard 11. The landside or runner 9 is so disposed that the plane of its width is substantially vertical, but in a plane slightly on the moldboard side of the vertical plane of the beam.

Above the point at which these posts are secured to the leg they separate from each other and at their upper ends are provided with tangs on which.

The handles are secured to each other by a metal round 22 and are strengthened by brace-rods 23 23, secured to the handles at the round 22 and to the beam at the junction of the knee 8 therewith.
For hauling the plow along it is provided with a rod draw-bar 24, which at its rear end is hooked into the knee 8 and at the front end passes freely through a guide 25. The guide 25 is adjustable-vertically in. slots therefor through the ends of a clevis 26, which is provided with a set-screw 27, turning through the bend of the clevis against the front surface of a laterally-elongated and slotted head 28, fixed on the front extremity of the beam 5. By this construction both lateral and ver tical adjustment of the draw-bar atthe front end of the beam are provided for.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. A plow comprising a beam the rear portion of which is turned down forming a leg,
avertically-disposed knee, a landside secured to the leg and to the knee, a main share and a main moldboard secured to each other and to the runner and the leg, and an auxiliary share and 1n oldboard separate from and above the main share and moldboard and secured detachably to the leg and the knee.
2. In a plow, a beam, a main share and a moldboard disposed at the right of the vertical plane of the beam, and an auxiliary share provided with an auxiliary moldboard, the auxiliary share being mounted in the plow above and at a distance from the main share and at the left of and in an oblique plane upwardly away from the vertical plane of the beam.
3. In a plow, a beam provided with a leg ofi'set laterally, a landside secured to and projecting forwardly from the leg, a knee secured terminally to the beam and the landside and having a medial portion oflset laterally, and an auxiliary share and moldboard provided with a rearwardly-extending shank and means securing the shank detachably to the leg and to the knee.
4. In a plow, a steel-strap horizontally-disposed beam turned down at its rear end forming a vertically-disposed leg, a steel-strap landside secured to the leg, a steel-strap knee secured to the beam and to thelandside, steelstrap handle-posts secured to the landside and to the leg, and a share or shares with a moldboard mounted on the parts aforesaid forming the frame of the plow.
