Description

J. JENKINS. Skirt Supporter.
No. 201,531. Patented March 19, 187-8.,
N FETERS, PHOTO-LITHOQRAPMEE WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOEL JENKINS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
.IMPROVEMENTIN SKIRT-SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,531, dated March 19, 1878 application filed October 19, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, J OEL JENKINS, of the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Skirt-Supporter; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of refer ence marked thereon, making part of this specification. I
This invention is in the nature of an improvement in skirt-supporters.
The invention consists in a skirt-supporter constructed of a contlnuous piece of springwire bent at'its top in the form of a loop, and turned at its lower end so that one of its sides forms a pin with a sharpened end, in combination with ametallic guard secured to the wire below the loop formed thereon by bending such guard around one side of the wire, and passing the unsharpened end of the wire throu h a hole in the guard, and turning up suh unsharpened end, so that it rivets or clamps the guard in position.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure l is a front View of my invention; and Fig. 2, a front view, partly in section.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in both figures.
A represents the wire-securing device of my supporter, which device is constructed of spring-wire, of suitable size, bent at its upper end to form a loop, a, a side, 12, and turned at its lower end to form a pin, a, one end of the wire being sharpened to constitute the pin.
Extending across the side b is a guard-plate, B. This guard-plate is secured by turning one of its sides 61 around the side I), and folding its other side over a projecting part of the wire 9, immediately below the loop a. Through this last-mentioned folded side of the guardplate is thrust the unsharpened end of the Wire, which unsharpened end is bent over and forms a clamp, e, securely riveting or fastening the guard-plate in position.
The guard proper, f, is formed by permitting the guard-plate to project between the side b of the Wire and that part, of the wire to which it is secured.
Now, my supporter being constructed as described, in use the pin 0 is thrust through a fold of the skirt, and the pin is allowed to enter beneath the guard f.
It will be seen that by this construction the guard is securely attached to the wire portion of the supporter without the use of solder, and in an expeditious and cheap manner.
Through the loop a of the supporter is passed the supporting-strap, which attaches the supporter to the belt or otherwise of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A skirt-supporter consisting of a wire pin and loop, combined with a guard which is retained in position by the unsharpened end of the wire supporter on one side, and by inolosing the wire on the other side, substantially as and for the purpose described.
JOEL JENKINS.
