Application filed February 7, 1919.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, FRANK P. DAnoY, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Kalamazoo and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in portable supports. My improved portable support is especially designed by me for supporting electric lamps whereby they may be carried about or fastened on different objects or to the person using the lamp.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improvedportable support for a lamp by means of which the lamp may be supported in the proper po sition to deliver the light upon an object such as part of an automobile or other machinery upon which work is to be performed.
Second, to provide an. improved portable supportwhich is capable of complete adjustment and at the same time is simple in structure and can be easily manipulated.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a side view of a structure embodying the features of my invention, one adjustment of the lamp engaging clamp being indicated by dotted lines.
Fig. II is an enlarged detail section on a line corresponding to line 22 of *ig. I, showing details of the swivel member and its mounting.
Fig. III is a detail section on a line correspondings to line 3-3 of Fig. I.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the'spring support engaging clamp 1 1s formed of wire Specification of Letters Patent.

and has spring coils 2. Its arms are crossed at 3 so that its jaws i are urged upon a support as 5. The lamp 6 shown is of the incandescent type provided with the cord 7, the lamp engaging clamp 8 being adapted to embrace or receive the lamp socket 9. The clamp 8 is provided with a pivot 10 which engages the bearing 11 of the swivel member 12. This swivel member 12 is formed of a piece of sheet metal folded upon itself and conformed at 13 to provide the pivot bearing, its arms having curved corrugations .14 therein providing outwardly facing grooves engaged with the coils v2 of the support engaging clamp whereby the member 12 is Supported for sliding adjustment upon the supporting clamp 1. This permits of the lamp supporting clamp being adjusted to various angles relative to the supporting clamp 1, and being swiveled he swivel member may be adjusted to various positions thereon.
My improved support is particularly adapted by me for supporting lamps but is desirable for use in other relations. As a lamp support it may be secured in position to properly illuminate the part of a machine upon which the mechanic is working, such as the parts of an automobile, or upon the person of the worker, or upon a reading lamp, or upon a bed, chair or other support as desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a portable support, the combination of FRANK P. DARCY. 1. 5.
