Abstract
1,179,021. Electrolytic production of chromate coatings. KOBE STEEL Ltd. Feb.28, 1967 [March 11, 1966], No.9556/67. Heading C7B. A metal surface is treated electrolytically as cathode to form a corrosion resistant film thereon using as electrolyte an aqueous solution prepared by adding a water soluble organic compound containing a thioradical, e.g. thioformamide thiourea, thiosemicarbazide, thioacetate, thioglycol or thiosalicylate, to an aqueous solution of a chromium compound in which the chromium is predominently present in the solution in the form of hexavalent chromium ions. The chromium may be present as chromium trioxide or as sodium bichromate. The surface to be coated may be of iron or steel and the anode used may be of graphite or lead.
