Abstract

A ceramic heat type glow plug and a method of manufacturing the glow plug; the glow plug, comprising a ceramic heater (6) having a heating element held by an insulating ceramic and a negative side lead of the heating element exposed to the outside from the side of the heater and electrically connected to a metal outer tube (8) and a positive side lead (10) taken out from the end face of the heater on the side apart from the heating element to the outside and connected to an electrode extraction hardware (12); the method of manufacturing the glow plug, comprising the steps of connecting the ceramic heater near one end part of the metal outer tube to position the connection part between the lead and the electrode extraction hardware in the metal outer tube, filling heat resistant insulating powder (14) into a space inside the metal outer tube, increasing the density thereof by swaging, fixing the electrode extraction hardware to the metal outer tube, and fixing the swaged portion of the metal outer tube to the inside hole (4) of a housing, whereby the holding structure for the lead and the electrode extraction hardware can be simplified, and a tightening torque to an external connection terminal (18) can be received by the fixing part of the metal outer tube to the housing (2).
