Saw this with my family this morning, really enjoyed it. I'd already seen Hadestown live with them before, but I was excited to see the original cast up close on stage. The performances were AMAZING, everyone in the show killed it. Definitely go see this while its still in theaters if you havent seen the musical!

As for my thoughts on the musical itself, honestly I've loved it for a long time. The more I think about it the more I think it might be a perfect musical. I don't know if it's my personal favorite though. That might have to go to hamilton by default, it was the first musical I was introduced to and I still listen to its songs regularly. Anyway though, Hadestown, yeah I'd call it pretty perfect all things considered. Theres literally nothing about it I'd change, even the songs I don't enjoy as much I still appreciate for its role in the musical. now if only it weren't so damned heterosexual

Art fight has barely started and I'm already overwhelmed. I haven't been able to keep up with the amount of attacks I got right out the gate, by day two Charlie had like three attacks! none for Button though, so I went and made her a proper character sheet reference to hopefully encourage anyone who wants to draw her &#128591. Either way, I'm still so happy to get drawings of my characters! I'm having a hard time keeping up though T_T

So far I've only managed to do three attacks, and I haven't finished any of my revenges yet. But just know they're coming! I will not let my pride go undefended!

just a general update on the site, I'm thinking I'm going to replace the guestbook page with a proper about page with all my social links and things. I'm also planning on adding pages dedicated to my monster high and star trek collections, so look forward to that! I'm also thinking about starting a discord server maybe? I'm already in a few different servers from the indie web but part of me wants my own. I briefly considered running an OSCAR server (lol) but that would be too much work I think. For the moment I added a little CBox iframe to the guestbook page, which is almost as good. but if youre interested in joining a discord server (if I make one) or to talk about cross stitch or star trek or whatever, feel free to add me! I'm @oskargot on discord, lets be friends! I might end up deleting this if I get inundated with spam but we'll see lol

I was introduced to this game by a friend, and I initially dismissed it. I thought it was boring and that there were too many things going on to the point where it was confusing. But when Star Trek: Lower Decks's idle game announced that it was shutting down, I needed a replacement. So I redownloaded Chiikawa Pocket and I have to say, I was wrong. This game is perfect. It's an idle game, but it has so many features and things to do that its hard to get bored. and its just fun watching Chiikawa and friends fight the creatures in their little costumes. I think the main reason I didn't like it at first was because progression felt meaningless, but I wasn't paying attention to everything you can do in the game.

The main feature of the game is the battle mode, where you watch Chiikawa and friends fight monsters, which nets you coins that you can spend to improve your stats. This is the main gameplay loop, and the battles at first are easy, the game literally plays itself, but at a certain point you do reach a difficulty spike. There isnt much you can actually do besides continuing to play until you can progress again. I dont know what it is, but I am addicted to this game. I definitely wouldn't play it if not for it being Chiikawa themed, though. And it is definitely a cash grab, theres microtransactions everywhere (though I haven't made any yet) and ads all over the place. Though sometimes they literally just give you ad block in game, which is really fun. Then it becomes more like a game and less like a chore. Still, not gonna stop playing it I think.

My favorite character is Momonga, with the most recent event I was able to get a ice-cream costume for him. its so so cute. This game just makes me want to get more chiikawa plushies. which I might do.

Decided to try out Art Fight this year! I'm not amazing at art but I do like to draw sometimes, though I've never made an actual character sheet before. I still have yet to do that actually, I just uploaded a couple of sketches mashed together to start. I doubt I'll get any attacks to be honest, but still can't succeed if you don't try.

I like the teams this year, I chose team Mystery to be quirky. It's cool that theres three this time around, though to me comedy/tragedy seem kind of boring in comparison to *mystery*. Probably just me though, I've seen plenty of people on the other two teams so I don't think there'll be much issue with lop-sidedness.

I'm looking forward to it either way, and hoping for the best! if you wanna follow me, I'm oskargot, just like everywhere else. 2026
 2026-06-19

I don’t think I tried very hard to predict what would happen but i certainly wasn’t expecting that.

I saw this twice, first with friends then with my sibling. I first saw this on the saturday of opening weekend, my theater experience was honestly really pleasant. I saw a couple of really cute cosplays and everyone in the theater itself was polite and not too disruptive. There was a kid sitting next to me though who kept asking questions but I didn't let that get to me.

I liked it a lot better on second viewing, probably bc I was less confused by a lot of the choices it makes.

Spoilers for The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act

So I'm a bit split on how I think about this movie/finale/event/whatever. On the one hand I really like parts of it, I thought Jax's segment was really good and sad. It reminded me of Evangelion's final episode weirdly, just on a smaller scale. I thought it was really interesting getting to see this character self sabotage over and over again, but still be fought for by pomni. the whole "character who refuses to be saved" vs "character who refuses to give up" thing, its fun to watch. I also can't believe how wrong I was about the trans coding of Jax, like if it wasn't obvious before this episode basically solidified it, I was shocked when Ribbit put her bow on Jax's ear. That shit was so cute too. And then we see how Jax pushes everyone away at every turn and explains how we got here. I think what they're going for is a cautionary tale of how repressing your identity for so long can lead to your own demise, which is definitely something I can relate to. I didn't realize I could be trans until like, 22, and it definitely affected how I treated myself and others. I wish Jax didn't have to die, but I get why they did it too.

Then theres the second half of the finale where they give us Caine's speedrunning a redemption arc. On the one hand I'm glad for it, I guess. I was a bit upset at how they basically changed Caine's character for episode 8. I thought initially that Caine going crazy and torturing the humans was kind of out of character entirely, since until then he's wanted nothing but to be good at what he does. So seeing him immediately flip back the other way makes it make more sense in retrospect. I just kind of wish it was built up more throughout the show, and not just pushed in at the end. The way that they intercut Caine finding the human's information with him creating the mind files in the first place was confusing to me on my initial watch. I thought for a bit he just brought scratch back entirely and thats what he was saying was at the stage when he came back, but obviously not lol. Still, Caine's whole segment felt like its own episode within the finale. I kind of wish it was spread out a little more, like if they hinted to caine still being alive more throughout jax's segment, or something? I mean their arcs were kind of similar, Jax's being about not taking accountability for his actions and Caine attempting to do so, so idk I just feel like it could've been better.

So back to Jax abstracting though, I'm also not sure about what abstraction is meant to represent. I think it's definitely intended to be a suicide allegory, especially when you look at Gooseworx's posts around it. "theres no coming back from abstraction" or whatever. But I think if you just look at the show itself it reads more vague, like theres clearly still something in an abstracted person. I think it reads more like deep psychosis or just hitting absolute rock bottom, honestly. Like if it is just suicide, why show them still being "in there" in a sense? I don't know, maybe I'm just coping bc I feel bad for Jax lol.

For the rest of the characters though I'm glad they got a happy ending at least. Like Caine coming back and trying to make amends is probably the best case scenario for them. The scene with the moon (voiced by Goose herself too) and Caine was really cute too. I also really liked seeing the IRL equivalents of the digital circus members, but it was also kind of cold comfort too. Like it's nice seeing them all, but it really sucks that Jax never got to. Since Jax isn't Leroy or whatever their name is, Jax is Jax and Jax is dead (abstracted). It's just kind of a shame, it feels like the show going "see, they actually get a good ending in the real world!" but the real world doesn't matter to us, we care about the circus world since thats what we've been following. Leeroy is an entirely different person from Jax, in effect anyway.

Oh the sex update was funny I liked that. Not much else to say tbh.

Overall though I think it's a good final episode, maybe less good as a movie experience. I'm happy for its online release so that I can watch it without needing to watch episode 8 again lol. I might review the whole show as a whole later, but I'm not sure. overall ehhh 3/5

Edit: Im rewatching it after its youtube release, and I still cant believe jax dies offscreen bc pomni forgor. what are we doing. plus the 15 seconds we get watching her and ragatha walk away from each other. its so strange. i REALLLYYY love the animation in this episode once we get to jax. its soooo so cool when the lights go out. The scene with jax and gangle is so weird. like idk if i get it.

I found this book on the bottom shelf in a Barnes & Noble. Judging the title alone, I was interested. I mean "the boyfriend academy"? an all boy academy where they learn to become boyfriends? thats just gay as hell no way around it. Reading the back of the book had me more interested though, it described a dystopia in which love is forbidden (woah). I had been wanting to read a queer book (esp for pride!!), though the cover and synopsis doesn't exactly advertise this like most queer romance novels I had seen. I had to get my friend to look it up for me so I wouldn't be spoiled (if ur reading this hi jade :3) and she confirmed it was in fact Gay. hooray! Probably should have been obvious from the "this book was entirely written by a human, a gay one at that" but I wanted to be sure lol

I first came into the book hoping/expecting something like a romance. I haven't read much in the genre admittedly, it's not my favorite, but I found the premise of this book intriguing.

The book's beginning kind of feels like revisiting Harry Potter, as someone who used to like the books as a kid (up until order of the phoenix that shit was boring) if just for the fun academic setting. Ganymede's, the titular boyfriend academy, is the top school in this sense, and it's opulent in all the ways. They even have houses like hogwarts, but with roman gods. Considering the subject matter I have to think it's intentional. It's almost escapism, at first. I mean the setup is that after a plague wipes out most of humanity, society is rebuilt around a monarchy that strives for individual perfection. Which screams eugenics ofc but from what we see of the school and system it seems, fine, almost. Everyone seems to have a decent life, theres universal basic income, everyone gets a house and a spouse, and it seems like they have at least a better society than ours. Like they directly talk about the current institution and how harmful it is to women and minorities, but its a bit funny hearing that and then having them turn around and say "oh except if you're gay lol"

The book does a really good job of portraying the feeling of being gay and ashamed, which very relatable as a trans guy too. Dylan and Roman's romance is cute, I'm a huge fan of the forbidden love trope and by god this book delivers.

Overall I really enjoyed this one, and I'm definitely invested enough in the characters to want a sequel.

(also the blurb at the beginning says the author is working on a murder mystery with gay male leads and I've never wanted anything more)

Saw this yesterday with some friends, my current theory is that the backrooms are like a madoka magica labyrinth created by Mary and her trauma. dont ask me to elaborate pls

Edit: ok actually I will elaborate. I think I was wrong about it being a madoka magica labyrinth for Mary specifically, but rather the world as a whole. and I think it might have latched onto Mary & clark & the boys through her whole self help tape things, along with Clark's ads he does. Like the backrooms is a network of misremembered places and things, more people have seen those ads which probably makes them more likely to spawn backrooms. I think. idk.

I also love how the internet is treating clark too, ngl. Like twitter is woobifying him. I saw someone make a little plushie of him. Another person is making pirate clark keychains that are genuinely so cute. like this guy (spoilers) eats people. like thats something he does in the movie and now hes also just a little guy. its really great I think.

Today I am feeling a bit foolish so I have decided to go on a bit of a quest for Star Trek things. I hadn't visited this particular antique mall before, but I knew it had some star trek things, one of the booths owners would post some of the contents on facebook marketplace, which I how I found out about this one at all.

There's a couple things I like to look out for when I go to antique malls. Anything Star Trek related is great, but I mostly go hunting for Star Trek books, and I prioritize anything TOS related. One of my grails are the Search for Spock limited edition Taco Bell glass cups. I have one of these already, and there are four total.

I was delighted to find one of these cups almost immediately when I came in. It was just sitting there, almost waiting for me.

Interestingly enough this was the only Star Trek thing I found in this booth, so I had to keep looking. I thought to check facebook again to find the specific booth number, but reception was terrible and it just wouldn't load. I was on my own. (≖_≖ )

This antique mall was huge too, much bigger than my local one. Most of the booths were the standard affair, but I found a couple that had collections of old TNG action figures. But my bias is TOS, so I had to keep looking.

I eventually found what I was looking for.

The sight of it nearly brought tears to my eyes. It was so beautiful. They had so much cool stuff. I wanted to buy all of it lmao. Some of the things I did already have, like the Kirk and Spock Playmates action figures (you can see kirk in the bottom right corner), but so much of it was new to me. No SFS glasses, alas, but I still got a lot of stuff.

alt="Star Trek haul spread on a blue surface: Wrath of Khan novelization, a bag of Star Trek pin buttons, the Taco Bell glass, a "Star Trek Chair Cape" box, and a vintage Spock figure in packaging">

The chair cape thing is dumb but I wanted it for my Star Trek themed office lol. Thats where the cup is going too, to hold pens and things.

The buttons I'm especially excited for, they're perfect for my Spirk Ita bag. Which I need to update at this point, the bag I have is too small for all the things I want to put in it. Kind of a shame honestly, this one is perfectly tricorder-sized. I have another Ita bag coming in the mail that should be suitable though, I'll post when it arrives :3

This book is so strange. It's a new generation 1 monster high book that seemingly has no regard for what fans deem important. Which is kind of interesting to me, it seems intentional I think. The "deadication" is: To the OG Fandom-- Welcome back to school. Which to me just sounds like the author saying "you want g1? fine, here, take it." and then boiling lagoona, which burns her skin pink. Which plainly seems like a reference to g3 lagoona's skin tone, but I don't know what they were meaning by this lol. Oh my god and they got rid of Clawd completely which also pissed people off, but they put a human character in his place kind of. His name is Poe which is interesting because it calls to mind Edgar Allen Poe, which the book is aware of, but the character is distinctly not like his namesake at all. This makes sense since he's a person, but compared to the monsters who are all designed from their namesakes, it's an interesting parallel.

I think I liked this book overall, though I haven't finished thinking about it. I'm curious to see how this version of g1's story continues through the comics.

 2026-05-19
 log

	<post-meta
 data-constellation="log"
 data-tags="update,craft"
 data-img="/img/posts/star-jar.jpeg"
data-excerpt="I've been doing this for a little while, so I can confidently say I like myself at least 1/4th of a cup.">
 </post-meta>

So I have this rare disease called "depression" that makes me really hate myself sometimes. Which like fine, I'm allowed, but it doesn't help me do the things I want to do. So I'm trying to fix this, and it's going about as well as you'd imagine. I've tried things like gratitude journals before, but I often found myself just looking at the things I wrote and dismissing them. Like even something simple as "I am kind" I'd look at that and go, "Well actually no, because xyz" and then I just feel bad again. I wanted to try something else.

So I like making these origami paper stars. You make them by taking a strip of paper, first folding it into a knot. Then you wrap the ends around the shape until you're left with a pentagon, then you press the sides in to make it star shaped. Once you get the hang of it they're really easy to make, which is kind of a problem for me since I typically make way too many and have no idea what to do with them lol. Maybe we can solve one problem with another?

What I've been doing is taking a strip of paper (I got special printed paper strips for this just for fun), writing something I like about myself in the moment, folding it up into a star, and then placing it into a jar labeled "things I like about myself". If I want to look and see what I wrote, I can just unfold the piece of paper to check.

I think this works for a few reasons:

Each entry is easy to make, but harder to refute. If I wanted to check to see if they're all true, I'd have to go unfold and vet them all one by one. That would suck, I'm not doing that. The jar itself is also a physical object I can look at as "proof" that I generally like myself, but not one that I can really argue with, because the aggregate is what makes it substantial.

The only requirement for each thought is that it's true in the moment that I'm writing it. The stars represent moments that I liked myself, not necessarily things that will always be true. This takes some of the pressure off when actually writing them.

Whenever I'm feeling sad and genuinely want to read nice things about myself I can just take one at random and read it. If it's a thought that I disagree with for whatever reason then I can just find another. And so on, in theory.

I've been doing this for a little while, so I can confidently say I like myself at least 1/4th of a cup. Making them stars doesn't make coming up with them any easier lol, but the point is in the aggregate, so it's alright.

Also, you don't really have to do it exactly like this. You could fold other shapes, make some other representation of your gratitudes, whatever. I just wanted an excuse to make little paper stars lol

If you saw my previous post you would know I recently came to hyperfixate on the worst possible thing for my wallet. TLDR; I went to a con, splurged on some blind box dolls, then came home and bought like 10x more online. In my defense, I have no defense. The online prices were less than the con prices for the dolls I got, mostly, but with the amount I got that hardly matters lol. But anyway, dolls! Yay!

The first of a few series's of dolls showed up recently, this line is called Sugary Girls and I got three boxes. There were a few different designs I wanted, though the only one I was neutral on was Alice (the box design). I got three boxes in total, the first one I got was...

…Alice

Do not get me wrong I still like her! She is really cute. I love her chocolate mint color palette. I am neutral on Alice in Wonderland as a property though, cute as she is. But besides, I have two more boxes anyway.

The next box I pulled Alice again.

At this point I was starting to suspect that maybe the stock I was buying from were just the dolls no one else wanted. I didn't unbox the second Alice, probably going to let a friend adopt her.

I had one last box to open, but just so long as it was not a third Alice, I would have been happy. For reference, these are the available designs:

Along with a hidden secret rare silhouetted design called Dreamy Lagoon, but the odds were 1/96 so I wasn't getting my hopes up ofc. My most wanted were Sugary for her adorable color pallet, or Game Over Girl, like just look at her. But again, would have been happy with any (save for another Alice).

Reader, I got the secret rare.

And she's SO CUTE. Like I can't stand it. She has twin pigtails that are wrapped into conical buns in her hair, along with various ribbons tying it all together. She has tons of little star hair clips molded onto her hair too. Her sunglasses come separate, and she comes with this putty material to stick them to her head, which is kind of goated for giving my other molded hair dolls accessories too. Her swimsuit is SO cute and incredibly detailed. and she has magnetic wings?? I love her, truly.

My one and only complaint, her shoes aren't amazing. They're a little too big since she doesn't wear any socks, for one. She should be wearing sandals, I think. But it's honestly okay, she looks just fine without them.

I got a few other things with my orders, including this doll sized pool float. It's as though it were fate. Look at how cute she is. She's perfect.

Good Morning (noon)

I was working today as normal when I went to go to the bathroom briefly, and when I came back there was a Star Trek book on my desk!! I asked my coworker Sandy if she saw anyone drop it off, but she hadn't. The book itself is The Star Trek Reader, a collection of novelizations of certain episodes from The Original Series. Though its contents are a bit weird, they must have originally published the stories through other books because it's separated into three books, Star Trek 2, Star Trek 3, and Star Trek 8. Maybe those were just his favorites, but the books have episodes in random orders as well. Where No Man Has Gone Before is in the 3rd book, Star Trek 8, despite it being I think the third episode in the show, as well as the second pilot too. Either way, I'm obviously stoked.

This is actually the second time I've found a mysterious gift left for me at my office. The first one was a Star Wars mug with BB8 on it. Now I'm not actually into Star Wars, but I am very much into Star Trek. I've kind of made it my whole personality at work, which is fun. My work id is on my Star Trek lanyard, I have a bunch of Star Trek stickers on my name plaque, I have a limited edition Search for Spock taco bell cop holding my pens. I even have a papercraft enterprise that I made hanging in my office lol. Anyway, anyone who knows me knows that Star Trek is sort of my thing, which really doesn't help me narrow it down at all lmao

Nonetheless I am very grateful for my mysterious benefactor. May I discover them soon so I might thank them.

Spoilers for Project Hail Mary.

So I saw this movie in theatres with one of my friends, and I think it's genuinely a good movie. Objectively speaking, the movie is well made. It was entertaining, the characters were enjoyable, I had fun. I liked it, even. But there's something that bothers me about this movie, and I'm not even sure if I know what it is.

the bias

I'm already pretty biased against Andy Weir because he likes Star Trek Wrong ngl. Thats just my opinion ofc, might not be worth much but here's the quote:

"I deeply dislike social commentary. For instance, as a lifelong Star Trek fan, it's always bothered me that there is a presumed 'responsibility' within Star Trek shows to talk about social issues. I just want to watch Romulans and the Federation shoot at each other." - Andy Weir interview

Makes me mad just thinking about it. Anyway.

This guy claims to hate social commentary and avoids putting it in his books. And then goes on to write the most blatant allegory for global warming I've ever seen. You just can't make a piece of art without it being somewhat political, just by it being made by a human on the planet Earth. But whatever, people write without the intention of sending a message all the time, if mr Weir wants to write nothingburger entertainment then by god thats his prerogative.

the book vs. the movie

Anyway I haven't even read the book so there isn't much I can actually say on it. The book is the book. I saw the movie.

I keep seeing people praise this movie and I just can't help but be a hater. I want to love this movie though. Nobody's wrong for liking it, I'm pretty sure I like it all things considered, it's a genuinely fun movie. Grace and Rocky are cute, objectively speaking. But I think the movie had the opportunity to say genuinely anything and it just didn't.

what doesn't translate

One of my bigger issues is how they never once addressed Grace's hypocrisy. Near the end of the movie (but not near enough lol - the movie has like 5 resolution points and drags on near the end) it's revealed that Grace was forced to leave against his will. The structure was probably better in the book where you have prose to lean on; specifically the things I missed in the adaptation:

knowing what characters are thinking (a thing prose does and film basically can't)

watching a competent person figure things out, which is one of the joys of sci-fi

Grace's actual interiority around the cowardice

None of this translates, of course. They wanted it to be accurate to the book, so
accuracy & adaptation
, whatever. Grace spends the whole movie trying to figure out how he got into space and the big twist is that he was a coward who never came willingly, and that he had to be forced to go on the mission to save the earth.

grace's arc

I think the movie thinks Grace has a character arc, which is just that he learns to be brave. Which is like, fine in theory I suppose. The arc they wrote is terribly boring though. Grace spends the entire movie being thrust with the easiest dilemma's for any person.

Should you board the Hail Mary, knowing it could save the Earth?

Stratt decides to tie him to the tracks anyway for the greater good. Grace says no, and never takes that back really. But it bugs me so much that he specifically would say no, because I just don't buy it. I don't buy that a school teacher who genuinely has no one in his life but his students and colleagues, would choose his own life over the future lives of all his students.

In the book, but not the movie, Grace claims that Stratt is murdering him by sending him into space against his will. I don't think he's wrong, but isn't he sentencing his students to death by staying? I don't know if the book ever makes note of this, I think it does, but I know the movie does not. I just don't buy that a man who pivoted his entire career from serious scientific discussion to children's education would be so willing to abandon the kids he claims to care about.

Isn't that the whole thing about global warming anyway? That no one is willing to change themselves for the greater good they should be invested in?

the verdict

Idk. Maybe I'm just mad at Andy Weir for liking Star Trek wrong lol.

I give this movie a 4/5. Really good. Wish it was better.

I went to Anime STL this past weekend, my friends happened to have an extra weekend ticket so I got to go for free. This was a mistake. Don't get me wrong, I had fun. I cosplayed Kirk and got to show off my Spirk Ita bag, which was really nice. But I am not immune to the temptations of capitalism.

I already have a decent collection of Monster High dolls, but when perusing the vendor hall I came across the cutest blind box bjd design I had ever seen. It was an Eve Lynna doll, and I wanted the Tide design that was on the front of the box. There was only one box left, so no chance of me swapping it for another design if I didn't get the one I wanted. I took the risk anyway and it paid off, I got the one I wanted and she's perfect.

The next day I caved and got another doll, one from a line of devil girls themed after the seven deadly sins. I got greed, which is fitting lol. And then there were two.

I got home and found myself wanting more dolls. Sure I still have all my Monster High dolls whom I do love, but the gambling was too addictive. And besides, my new dolls needed friends didn't they? Anyway I'm not proud but now I have around 10 dolls on route. I am so excited.
