Zeekr | Taika | Spotlight. A brand in a lane of one, collaborating with a creator who lives in a lane of one. In a category that struggles to break convention, we aspired to launch this brand into New Zealand in a way that felt fresh and like a modern, design led luxury brand - which Zeekr is. The result, as Oliver Green says, is more like 'art-vertising ' than advertising. 7 photographic worlds lit up by the headlights of the signature 7X Zeekr model. The work, and therefore the brand, is gaining earned traction in culture and in media that we couldn't have achieved with classic automotive advertising. An amazing launchpad to grow from. Car ads have long followed a familiar formula: glossy cars, epic landscapes and predictable lifestyle moments.  In a category known for playing it safe, Zeekr chose to break the rules. For Zeekr’s launch into Aotearoa, we wanted to create something with more edge. Something distinctive, unexpected and properly in a lane of one. Zeekr | Taika  A brand in a lane of one, collaborating with a creator who has made a career out of doing exactly the same. Enter Spotlight: a collaboration between Zeekr, Taika Waititi and Bastion Aotearoa that flips the traditional car campaign on its head. Rather than putting the vehicle at the centre of every frame, the Zeekr 7X becomes the source of the story through an exhibition of 7 large scale photographic worlds. Suspended from the Studio West ceiling, its headlights create the canvas for these 7 strange, cinematic images, from alien abductions and sunburnt couples to inflatable bodybuilders. The car is there, but not in the way you might expect. That was the brave bit. Credit to the Zeekr team for having the conviction and the chops to back an idea that didn’t follow the category playbook.  A client willing to trust the creative instinct, embrace the weird, and launch a new car brand through culture rather than convention. The result is Taika Waititi’s debut photography exhibition, a public-facing campaign with genuine intrigue. A brand in a lane of one, collaborating with a creator who lives in a lane of one. Our latest work for NordEast Vehicle Distributors. For the launch of the Zeekr 7X, we partnered with Taika Waititi to turn one product truth into seven cinematic worlds, each lit entirely by the vehicle’s headlights. Spotlight is part campaign, part public exhibition, part cultural artefact. Aliens, warehouse raves, paparazzi, bodybuilders and sunbathers all found their way into the light. It took the full Bastion table to bring it to life, with strategy, creative, production, experience, design, PR and social working together from the first thought through to the final rollout.
