🏡✨My First Whare has been named a finalist in the 2026 Sustainable Business Awards in the Communicating for Change category. 🎉   Created in partnership with Westpac New Zealand and hosted by Tamati Rimene-Sproat, My First Whare shared real stories from Māori and Pasifika whānau creating pathways to home ownership through shared equity.   The series was about more than getting a foot on the property ladder. It was about returning home, staying connected to whenua and whānau, breaking financial cycles, and showing the next generation what is possible.   And the response was incredible too: 2.1 million social views in the first three weeks, 17,000+ article page views, an average 76.6% completion rate on TVNZ+🙌   Most importantly, it sparked kōrero and community advocacy - exactly what powerful, culturally grounded storytelling should do.   A huge congratulations to our partners Westpac and thank you to the iwi, community voices and whānau who trusted us to help share these stories. Finalist status is a wonderful recognition of what happens when brands lead with authenticity and purpose. 💫   #MyFirstWhare #SustainableBusinessAwards #Westpac

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori! ✨It’s Māori Language Week, and at TVNZ we’re celebrating by giving te reo Māori a go together - one kupu at a time.  One of the ways we do this is through our te reo workshops for kaimaihi who want to grow their confidence in te reo Māori and deepen their understanding of te ao Māori.   Led by the amazing Scotty and Stacey Morrison, the year-round sessions create a relaxed, supportive space to ask questions, share stories and learn more about the history and culture of Aotearoa.  And of course, there’s always plenty of kōrero along the way - especially when Scotty’s in the room! IYKYK 😄  The aim is simple: to help TVNZers feel more comfortable using te reo in everyday mahi - on air, in hui, in emails and around the office.   Below is a pic of the Te Reo Beginners workshop. They finished their course on Rāhina/Monday in TVNZ's Te Rau Aroha Marae. Ka pai! 🙌  #MāoriLanguageWeek #TeWikiOTeReoMāori #Aotearoatanga #TVNZ

Meet Jo Mark-Brown, TVNZ's News Administration Manager and Camp Mum! ✨ She's been a fixture in our Auckland newsroom for 36 years. In October, after countless stories, breaking news events, and phone calls asking, "Jo, can you help?!", she'll log out for the very last time. So, what does a 36-year career at TVNZ look like? For Jo, it looks like working through one of the biggest periods of change in media history. Starting in 1990, Jo has experienced everything from paper-based systems and videotape editing to digital first newsrooms.  Along the way some of the more memorable events she's worked through include Princess Diana's death, Russel Coutts departing Team New Zealand, 9/11, the Canterbury earthquakes, the Whakaari White Island eruption, and the death of Queen Elizabeth II.  She's also worked on nine Rugby World cups, nine Summer Olympic Games, eight Commonwealth Games, and 13 General Elections! Yet, when asked what stands out most after more than three decades, her answer isn't a news story. "It would have to be the people. They're not just colleagues, they're family."  It's a reminder that careers are about more than job titles. They're about the relationships and experiences that shape us over time. As Jo prepares to log out of the newsroom, we're celebrating an incredible career and the impact she's had on generations of TVNZers. 👏📺❤️ 👇 Click below to read more about Jo's story and click on the link in the comments to see how you can be part of the TVNZ team.

We're always looking for new ways to tell the stories of Aotearoa, and yesterday we got to share some of our ideas at the Aotearoa AI Summit! Titled Kia whakapuāwai | Agents of Change, Powered by Curiosity, the summit brought together people from across the motu including our very own Tuscany J.ery own Tuscany J. and Stacey Morrison! Together they spoke about the important mahi TVNZ is doing to ensure tikanga remains at the heart of how we develop and use AI. A great example is Kaimanaaki, an AI guide that lives in the heart of our AI ecosystem and helps people navigate te ao māori with confidence and care. By sharing knowledge and context throughout the workflow, it encourages learning, curiosity, and respectful treatment of taonga. This helps us build Aotearoatanga into our AI experiences✨   Thanks for having us AI Forum New Zealand and Tech New Zealand! 👏🚀🎤 #AotearoaAISummit 📸 Stacey & Tuscany 📸 A mockup from our proof of concept where a creative is leading an agentic team to create a promo. You can see Kaimanaaki is able to share information that non-māori machine checks are not able to understand.

TVNZ's technology team spent Friday doing something a little different - building and competing with AI agents at the AWS Agentic Football Cup. 🤖⚽ In a hands-on session run by Amazon Web Services (AWS), our team built and deployed real AI agents on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, which is the same AWS platform we use internally for agentic orchestration. Each agent represented a football player, and once built, TVNZers went head-to-head in a live 5v5 football tournament. Congratulations Tuscany J. on the win 🏆 But the football tournament was just the vehicle. The real outcome was our team walking away with practical hands-on experience with the technology we use every day here at TVNZ, making the learning click in a way a presentation simply wouldn't. We're just getting started. Thanks to the AWS for M&E team for a brilliant session 👏

Meet Andy Jenkins, TVNZ’s Post Production Manager and resident guitar maestro. You’ve probably seen and heard Andy’s work, but the thing with post-production is that when it’s done well, you shouldn’t really notice it. As Andy puts it, “We make the colours pounce, the speakers bounce, blend the sounds, and crisp it all up so everything looks and sounds amazing. But it’s got to blend seamlessly before it beams into the eyes and ears of our audience!” For the past 16 years, he’s helped bring New Zealand content to life, most recently working on Taskmaster NZ, Celebrity Tipping Point NZ, and New Zealand Food Story. “One of the best things about my job is working with our external clients. I love bringing them through and giving them a world-class experience.  Some of the most talented crafts people in the industry are right here in the building.” He loves working with his close-knit team and adding value to what goes on screen. One of the most rewarding projects is creating Foley sounds, everyday sound effects, for Shortland Street. “We have a large Foley room downstairs that’s full of all sorts of random stuff. What looks like a junkyard, is a carefully selected eclectic mix of bottles, computer keyboards, bikes, gravel and sand pits, and all kinds of everyday items. Watching a screen, the foley artist physically performs shirt ruffles and clanging glasses and pops to match actors’ movements on screen. It’s tactile, it’s creative, and it’s a very niche skill.” Outside of post-production, Andy is one-quarter of band Big Red Day, along with three other TVNZers, whose title track has even featured in a couple of TVNZ projects. “It was written here. Rehearsed here. Recorded here. Its whole lifecycle happened in this building.” Perhaps that’s why the place feels so special – the stories created within its walls have left their mark. “This building is alive. There’s something about the air that’s really special. You see it every day when visitors walk through our front door. They love coming here. TVNZ is part of New Zealand's heritage. It really is.” And he’s playing his part one careful colour, crafted sound effect, and guitar riff at a time. 🎸 ✨ 👉 Keen to join TVNZ? Check out our careers page via the link in the comments below. 📸 #1 - Andy in TVNZ's Foley room! 📸 #2 - Big Red Day
