𝗔 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸. Thirty members of #TeamWasco recently volunteered their time at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kolam Paip Beserah in Kuantan, helping to clean and maintain the cemetery grounds. Working together, the team cleared and tidied the area to help provide a cleaner and more respectful environment for families and visitors. The initiative brought together colleagues, particularly from our Wasco Coatings Malaysia Operations team, contributing a total of 180 volunteer hours. It was a simple act of service, but one that reflects something important — giving our time and taking care of the communities around us. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. The Wasco Women Action Network (WWAN) recently hosted its first 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 & 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 at Wasco KL, bringing colleagues together for an open discussion on 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗯𝗶𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲. We all have biases. They are part of the mental shortcuts we use every day, often without realising it. What matters is being willing to recognise them — and understand how they can influence the way we work, make decisions and support one another. 𝗪𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱? 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱? 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄? There may not always be an obvious answer. But taking a moment to question our assumptions can help us make more thoughtful and inclusive choices. As one reflection from the session captured it: “𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵; 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.” Through conversations like these, WWAN continues to create space for colleagues to learn from one another, challenge perspectives, and turn reflection into action. 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Another step forward in reducing the carbon footprint of our operations. Our Wasco Qatar Pipe Coating Plant at QFZ has reached an important milestone with the successful energisation of seven new dry-type transformers, enabling the facility’s transition from diesel-generated power to grid electricity. The move reduces our reliance on diesel for day-to-day power generation and, importantly, the associated direct Scope 1 emissions from our operations. It is also a milestone we have been working towards for some time. As our Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer, Giancarlo Maccagno, recently shared with The Edge Malaysia, there is no single solution to reducing the environmental footprint of our operations. Different markets require different approaches, with our focus on areas we can directly influence, including energy efficiency, renewable energy use and tighter emissions management. The transition at QFZ is one example of that approach in practice: identifying where we can make a tangible operational change and following through. It forms part of the broader work underway across Wasco as we progress towards our net-zero ambitions and embed sustainability more deeply into how we operate, allocate resources and build resilience for the future. A little friendly competition goes a long way. Our WS Engineering & Fabrication team recently swapped the usual workday for a pickleball team bonding session, a chance to get moving, have some fun, and spend time together away from the day-to-day. There were plenty of laughs, some healthy competition and, most importantly, a good opportunity to strengthen the connections that make working together that much better. Three days at Gastech have brought conversations with customers and partners from across the energy industry — some familiar, some new, and many with different perspectives on what comes next.
