Signál v hře reprezentuje pokrok a domnělou možnost neomezeného přístupu k poznání, současně ale odhaluje paradox informační přesycenosti a následné prázdnotě.

My graduation game from 2025. The game is currently only in Czech.
The author’s explanation is here:
“Kabel is a surrealist game that explores the paradoxes of information in society through the metaphor of an isolated island. The player takes on the role of a supposed savior—a bearer of progress and the future—who is tasked with connecting this disconnected place to the world via a signal. However, this ‘messiah’ role is ironically undermined by the fact that the character is himself a slave to the technology that controls him—he literally has a stake driven into his head to transmit the signal, and his movements resemble those of a rag puppet on a string.
One of the play’s main themes is the reflection on ideology and its relativization in the context of post-totalitarian transformation. The play is structured into three parts that allegorically depict modern Czech history: the euphoria of the 1990s and the rise of unbridled capitalism, the subsequent disillusionment, and the anti-utopian reality that stands in contrast to the neoliberal idealization of the world. These periods are linked in the play through the relationship to information in the digital age. In the game, the signal represents progress and the supposed possibility of unlimited access to knowledge, yet at the same time it reveals the paradox of information overload and the resulting emptiness.
The key mechanic is finding the optimal path for the signal, which must not be blocked by existing structures. This mechanic operates on two levels: the practical (solving puzzles) and the metaphorical (finding paths in an ideologically shaped space). At first glance, the expansion of the signal brings positive changes—generators activate, lights come on, and the place comes to life. Gradually, however, the negative consequences of this “progress” are revealed: the signal generates visual and informational smog that pollutes the landscape and makes it difficult to find one’s way; the island begins to sink, leading to the gradual linearization of the game space—the player has fewer and fewer choices.
The visual style straddles the line between comedy and horror, further reflecting the ambivalent feelings evoked by the media reality of today’s world. The characters resemble clumsy digital puppets, rag dolls dragged across the map as mere carriers and disseminators of information.
A distinctive feature is the camera control. The player cannot control the viewpoint; instead, they are offered predefined camera angles triggered by their movement. This limitation serves as a metaphor for the preset perspectives within which we move, with the camera dictating exactly what we are supposed to see of the island.
The game’s theme gradually evolved and deepened during the creative process in response to current social events. Since the first presentation of our concepts, we have witnessed a series of events that have only intensified the feelings that *Kabel* explores: Donald Trump’s return to the presidency alongside Elon Musk, who supports far-right parties and movements; the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure; the mass displacement of residents and extensive loss of civilian life caused by the Israeli military in Gaza; and the subsequent trivialization of these issues by Czech political leaders. The boundaries between reality and absurdity, between comedy and tragedy, are blurring, and Kabel thus captures feelings that oscillate between cynical humor and a depressive resignation to the fact that we will somehow have to survive in this world. Kabel is therefore not a play about ideology in an abstract sense, but a record of the experience of the present.
It aims to draw players into the ambivalent feelings that characterize our era—primarily the tension between the hope for better information and the frustration caused by informational chaos. The goal is not to offer clear-cut answers or comfort, but to convey an authentic sense of disorientation and absurdity, which is gradually becoming a defining feature of the contemporary world."
