  • If you receive an unexpected cash windfall such as an inheritance, tax refund, or bonus, resist the urge to spend it immediately. Place the funds in a liquid account for a while. Taking time to cool off prevents emotional spending and gives you space to divide the windfall intentionally between debt payoff, savings, and enjoyment.

  • Building wealth can take decades of hard work, sacrifice and ambition. But what happens when the conversation shifts from creating wealth to protecting it, managing it across generations, and ensuring that the next generation is prepared to carry it forward? That was the focus of the NCBA Wealth Generational Series, where leaders from NCBA Group and Bowmans explored the decisions that shape wealth across generations. From succession structures and governance to tax considerations, investment strategy and business continuity, the discussions highlighted why wealth planning should begin long before a transition becomes inevitable. As Muathi Kilonzo, MD, NCBA Investment Bank, put it, “Succession planning is not simply about transferring wealth. It is about creating the structures, governance and investment strategy that allow wealth to grow across generations.” The takeaway is simple: true wealth management is not just about building more. It is about protecting what you have, preparing for what comes next, and creating the structures that allow your wealth to continue working for future generations. • There is a difference between having access to financial information and knowing how to use it. You can find investment advice everywhere. You can hear people discussing shares, bonds, MMFs, Saccos, property and other opportunities every day. But information only becomes useful when you understand how to evaluate it and apply it to your own circumstances.

  • What Is the Cost of Your Dream? The car you want to buy in the next 2 years, the home you want to build in 5 years, the child you want to educate abroad in the next 7 years, the business you want to establish in 10 years, and the retirement life you wish to begin in 20 years… How much will each of these cost? How much will you need to set aside to achieve each of these goals? It is one thing to know what you want, it is another to know what it will take to get there.  Putting a number and a timeline to your goals gives you something concrete to work towards. It can help you understand how much you need to save, when you need to start and whether your current approach is likely to get you where you want to be. This is where Flexi Future Plus by SanlamAllianz Kenya comes in. It gives you a structured way to save towards a future goal, with a guaranteed maturity benefit that gives you greater certainty about what you are working towards. But a long-term goal should not require you to have your entire future figured out from day one. Your circumstances can change, and your plan should be able to accommodate that. With Flexi Future Plus, you can adjust your target and payment frequency as your needs and goals evolve. There is also protection built into the plan. You can tailor your cover to protect against events such as death, total permanent disability and critical illness, with options for premium waiver in the event of these risks or retrenchment. The result is a savings plan that brings together a goal to work towards, certainty around the maturity benefit, flexibility along the way and protection against some of life's unexpected turns. If you are wondering what your own goal might require, the Flexi Future Plus calculator can help you put a number to it and visualize what you could be working towards. • Don’t invest blindly. Before putting your money into an investment, take the time to understand what you are investing in, how it works, what returns you can realistically expect and what risks you are taking. Do your own research, ask questions and verify the information you receive before making a decision. A promising opportunity is not necessarily a suitable investment for you.

  • FIVE ON FRIDAY by Abojani Investment Hello, and welcome to another Friday! #BankingSector: Kenya’s banking sector crossed the KSh8 trillion asset mark in FY2025, with total assets rising 10.3% to KSh8.3 trillion, according to the Central Bank of Kenya Bank Supervision Annual Report 2025. Customer deposits grew 11.6% to KSh6.1 trillion, while shareholders’ funds increased 18.7% to KSh1.4 trillion. Profit after tax rose 16% to KSh241.1 billion, supported by an 11.1% increase in operating income to KSh738.6 billion against a 4.7% rise in operating expenses. The sector’s assets have now expanded roughly 12-fold over the past two decades, highlighting the scale of Kenya’s banking sector and its growing role in the economy. #ProductLaunch: Absa Bank Kenya has launched Absa Next, an integrated digital finance ecosystem bringing banking, saving, investing, borrowing and lifestyle services into one platform. The platform offers savings of up to 7% and investment solutions with returns of up to 16%, alongside instant credit ranging from Ksh500 to Ksh1 million. It also uses open banking to give customers a single view of accounts held across different financial institutions. Banks are moving beyond simply digitising traditional banking to building platforms around how customers save, invest, borrow and manage their money. #CapitalMarkets Nairobi Securities Exchange PLC’s NEXT derivatives market has surpassed Ksh1 billion in turnover for the first time, reaching KES 1.01 billion in 2026 year-to-date turnover. This is more than four times the KES 249 million recorded in 2025. The Nairobi Securities Exchange launched NEXT on 4 July 2019, introducing futures contracts that allow investors to hedge portfolios or take positions on movements in the underlying market. The market includes equity index futures based on indices such as the NSE 25 Share Index, NSE 10 Share Index and NSE Banking Sector Index. #RevenueScale: Kenya’s NSE-listed companies with annual revenue of KSh100 billion or more show just how much economic activity is represented by the listed market. Based on the latest full-year results, Safaricom PLC leads with KSh427.6 billion in annual revenue, followed by KCB Bank Group at KSh275.5 billion and Equity Group at KSh264.4 billion. East African Breweries PLC (EABL), Kenya Power, KenGen Kenya, TotalEnergies and Co-operative Bank of Kenya also crossed the KSh100 billion mark. The figures highlight that the largest listed companies span telecommunications, banking, energy, manufacturing and consumer sectors, giving investors exposure to some of Kenya’s biggest revenue-generating businesses.

  • Remember that building real wealth isn't about getting lucky or catching a secret shortcut. It's really just about making sure more money comes in than goes out, and putting what's left into things that grow over time.   When you focus on holding onto your money instead of blowing it on quick trends, time does most of the heavy lifting for you. Small, steady choices stack up faster than you think.

  • It's that time of the month again: a good reminder to automate. Automation is the ultimate hack for financial discipline. Setting up automated recurring transfers for savings, bill payments, and investment contributions removes human hesitation from the equation. When your money moves automatically on payday, financial goals get achieved by default.
