Kadajah Day & Night System for RPG Maker MZ
Breathe Life into Your World with Professional Atmosphere.
Are your maps feeling static and lifeless? Do you want your players to feel the passage of time as the sun sets and shadows lengthen?
Kadajah Day & Night System (v4.9) is a comprehensive environmental engine designed specifically for RPG Maker MZ. It replaces static tints with a living, breathing time cycle. From the orange glow of a campfire flickering against the night to the harsh beam of a flashlight in a horror game, this plugin handles it all with professional-grade performance.
Forget complex parallel processes or messy common events. With a simple setup, you get a full calendar system, smooth ambient color transitions, and a dynamic 2D lighting engine that renders shadows and lights in real-time.
You define the cycle duration and the color palette for each time of day, the plugin handles the rest, seamlessly managing the clock and blending transitions automatically
Features
- Dynamic Time Cycle: Set the duration of a full day in real-time seconds. The plugin automatically handles the progression of Hours, Minutes, Days, Months, Years, and Weekdays.
- Smooth Phase Transitions: Define your own phases (Sunrise, Day, Sunset, Night, Midnight). The system smoothly interpolates colors between phases, ensuring the transition from day to night is gradual and immersive, not jarring.
- Professional Lighting Engine: Attach lights to events using simple notetags (<Light: torch>). Lights are not just static images; they can flicker, pulse, strobe, and jitter.
- Smart Indoor Support: Prevent specific maps from being affected by the day/night tint. Simply add the <Indoor> tag to a map's note box to keep caves naturally dark or interiors fully lit, regardless of the time outside.
- Customizable HUD: Includes a built-in UI to display the current time, date, and phase icon. You can customize the background, position, font size, and opacity, or toggle it on/off via commands.
- Audio Atmosphere: Link Sound Effects (SE) to specific day phases. Make a rooster crow at sunrise or crickets chirp the moment night falls automatically.
- Variable Integration: The system exports Time, Date, and Weekday strings directly to game variables, allowing you to trigger events based on the in-game clock (e.g., shops closing at 20:00).
Light Preset Database
Circle, Square, Beam, Ring, Hollow, and Soft.
- / Warm, orange lights with a "Natural" flicker that mimics real fire.
- : A sharp, cone-shaped "Beam" of white light that rotates with the character.
- : A static, yellowish wide-area light for city environments.
- / Small, soft lights that utilize the new Float mechanic to bob up and down while moving.
- : A "Ring" shaped cyan light with a "Pulse" flicker effect for magical gateways.
- : A "Hollow" green light suitable for radioactive waste or poison pools.
- : A rotating red beam for security cameras or emergency sirens.
- : Rapidly flashing lights perfect for broken electronics or horror scenes.
Creative Gameplay Mechanics
While this is a visual tool, it is deep enough to be the backbone of your gameplay loop. Here are 3 ways to integrate the system into your design:
1. The "Stardew" Style Simulation
Use the exported Time Variables to create NPC schedules. Have villagers walk to work at 08:00 (Sunrise) and return home at 18:00 (Sunset). Use the calendar system to trigger holiday events on specific dates (e.g., "Day 25, Month 12").
2. Dynamic Stealth & Horror
Use the flashlight preset on the player. Since the plugin renders a dark ambient layer (Multiply mode) at night, the player can only see what is in their light cone. Create enemies that react when the player's light touches them, or stealth sections where players must stick to the shadows of street_lamps.
3. Magical Environments
Use the Float and Color parameters to create biome-specific lighting. A mystic forest could be filled with purple fairy lights that gently float, while a lava cave is lit only by the intense, jittering red glow of the magma, requiring no actual light source sprites—just the light emitters themselves.
Perfect Game Examples
Not sure if this fits your project? Here are 5 game genres that benefit perfectly from the Kadajah Day & Night System:
- Life Sims / Farming Games: Essential for tracking days, seasons, and shop opening hours.
- Survival Horror: Utilizes the flashlight mechanics and oppressive darkness phases.
- Open World Fantasy: Makes traveling feel epic as the sun rises and sets during long journeys.
- Cyberpunk / Sci-Fi: Uses neon pulses, strobes, and beam lights to create busy city streets.
- Mystery / Detective: Use the time system to limit how long the player has to solve a crime before the day ends.
