For any new vocabulary you will be automatically taught all of the kanji necessary to be able to read it.
Just copy-paste a piece of text you'd like to read and we'll automatically extract all of the words from it and teach them to you in chronological order as they've appeared in your text so that you can start reading almost immediately!

We use a technique similar to one used in Heisig's hugely popular Remembering the Kanji book to teach kanji, however we don't use his keywords. Instead we manually went through thousands of kanji ourselves and painstakingly assigned them our own, better keywords. (Why?)
Most spaced repetition programs use a variant of the SM-2 algorithm created in the 1980s. While it is a great algorithm we can do a lot better with the current technology. We use our own specialized spaced repetition algorithm based on modern machine-learning techniques which handles things like lapses, irregular reviews, etc. significantly better than SM-2.
As you learn new vocabulary we will automatically turn all of your vocabulary cards into i+1 sentence cards. That is, along with the word you want to learn we will also automatically show you an example sentence where you already know all of the words, except the word you're learning. This allows you to learn new vocabulary in context instead of only memorizing the dictionary definitions.
We've gathered a database of over 130 million real Japanese sentences. Usually that would be useless if you aren't already a high level Japanese user, but not with us. Since we track which words you've learned we can intelligently show you only those sentences where you already know all of the words, except the word you want to look up. The more vocabulary you learn, the more example sentences you'll be able to access in our dictionary.
Since we track which words you've learned we can also suggest which piece of media you should consume next. Want to find an anime or a novel where you're guaranteed to know 90% of the vocabulary? We can find it for you.
We track the vocabulary you learn across all of your decks, so if you have two or more decks with the same words we will automatically synchronize your progress across them.
There are no predefined levels and no preset order in which you're supposed to learn. You can learn whatever you want, in any order you want, and our algorithms will adapt to you.
Everyone's different and learns at a different pace. We have users who do 15 cards per day. We also have users who do 200 cards per day. With us you can learn as little or as much as you want, and we do not artificially limit your progress to only a certain number of cards per day.
