Well… it’s not like we were exactly sitting still in July either. 😅🤖 First: Mirality joined the TRACE SME Accelerator Programme. 🚀 We’re going in to explore our Floor-to-Office idea: using robots and visual AI not only to automate tasks, but to turn what happens on the factory floor into useful operational insight. Understand first. Automate second. Thanks Kevin Sexton, Harry Hamilton, Graham Merriman and all the team and colleagues at TRACE. And then came the big one: 💥💥💥Our first PAID pilot 💥💥💥 I heard this recently at a Western Development Commission event: “One cheque leads to the next, but someone always has to write the first cheque.” And Ivan Martin did it. What I particularly like is why. Iván sees this as a natural next step in the automation journey: from software automation and RPA to AI + Embodied AI working in the physical world. I completely share that vision and the passion for what is coming next. Another major technological disruption is starting. And I’m genuinely excited to contribute our small grain of sand to it. 🤖⚡ So, HUGE thanks to Iván and to ILUSIAK.CLEANING for the trust, the vision and for being willing to take that first step with us. Mirality LTD won the pitch competition at TechTides in Belfast. 🏆 It's been over 20 years since I left Northern Ireland. Coming back last week — against a difficult backdrop across the country — made this win mean something beyond the prize. This comes off the back of our successful launch event in Letterkenny the week before, where we left with a pipeline of potential clients in food processing and logistics. Melvin Akoth, Juan Leandro S., and I have been heads down building for months and it's deeply satisfying to see that work recognised by people who know the space — and the problem we're solving. 🤖 What struck me most wasn't just our win — it was the standard of the other startups in the room. The ecosystem is alive. The talent is real. The North has a lot to be proud of. Thanks to the judges Alison McMurtrie, Barry Brennan, Ciaran R. Great morning spent at a vibrant TechTides. Caught a couple of presentations and particularly enjoyed the Startup Pitch Session hosted by Hermione Way📣, who ran it brilliantly. Special mention to Steven Boylan of Mirality for a standout pitch (hope you don't mind the photo). No surprises that AI was the central theme running through everything I saw. From a recruitment perspective, what struck me is how quickly AI literacy is becoming a baseline expectation across roles in the Northern Ireland market. It is no longer just about using AI tools to save time on admin. The more interesting question for me in particular is how it intersects with Cyber Security. As organisations accelerate AI adoption, the security implications are significant. How do you protect sensitive data when AI systems are ingesting it? How do you secure the models themselves? And how do you ensure that the people building and operating these systems understand the risk landscape they are working in? These are the conversations I am starting to have with clients, and the demand for professionals who sit at that intersection of AI and Cyber Security is only going to grow.
